Hey Rob, much of my fishing now is feeder fishing,but I used to do a lot of carp fishing not too many years ago, I understand what you are saying about thin lines/hooklengths etc but I can assure you the big old Wiley girls usually feed in a different way & in lakes full of weed & snags. I used to fish the old Yateley complex where the carp were witnessed rubbing themselves along the bottom/baited area checking for lines !! , so basically heavier lines/hooklinks are used for a) making sure you have a good chance of landing the fish if you are lucky enough to hook one & b) more importantly the fishes welfare. In the feeder situation if you get the carp competing you could almost catch ‘em on a bent pin for a hook 😜👍 & of coarse most of the commercials have open water & or little in the way of snags 👍.
