When i was young i spent way more than i could afford on one of these. I treated it with kid gloves and really looked after it. I was rewarded with crackling nasty pots, and weird loud arbitrary crackles and pops. It broke my heart. Nowadays i use a squier guitar through a cheap Laney, and get the lovely sounds.

It has a much more modern tone to it than higher end fender amps. It can be pretty dark. I've noticed some people refer to that dark tone as "boxy," which makes sense if you're trying to play mostly clean blues or country and need tons of headroom. Seems like the purists hate it, but I've noticed a lot of first time Fender amp owners love them, especiall for punk or alternative rock. I threw a Boss SD-1 in front of one with a Less Paul , and the thing sounded absolutely amazing if you like a darker heavy rock tone. I was blown away. Sounded almost like a little Mesa or something.

I've had the Blues Jr IV Limited Edition with the Greenback for about a year now. Great little amp for home use and recording, can be very loud. In a big room with a crowd it needs to be mic'd and pushed with OD. It does take pedals really well. I run a HXFX with a Whammy and external drives. Great review!

I bought a used BJ mkii. The tube socket solder crapped out the next day so had to change all of them. Apparently they have reliability issues (psionic audio has a great video outlining them). Still, with all that in mind I still love it. The price with all sockets swapped and new TAD power tubes came to half of what the mkIV retails nowadays. Even though the ii is outdated I like its sound, takes pedals well and is loud enough to play with a drummer. It also fits underneath my desk and is easy to store in a small appartment. A real win for me !

I’ve owned that exact amp for a few years. Mine seems darker than yours, I usually have less bass an more treble than you ran. I’ve also had issues with the reverb cutting out. I’ve had to unplug and replug the RCA style connectors to the tank. That seemed to fix it. Super amp for sure.

  • @nachom1971

I rescued my blues Jr version 1 from a parts/trash bin. I had to change a burnt tube board with a 3rd party upgrade, install a couple working tubes from my stash, made some reliability mods (caps, speaker cable and jack) and install a front panel black overlay for looks. All in all I spent about 100$ in parts and it's been my workhorse since for years. In my country you can expect to spend around 800$ for this amp brand new from a store. I love my little steam engine because it always works and sounds killer with or without pedals !

Put the Master on 12 & get the power tubes cooking. I rarely have reverb above 3. Great with pedals. Standard speaker usually bright. Swopping speakers (easy) changes the overall tone a lot. I really wanted a Marshall so I bought a Bassbreaker 30R. I even lucked out and found an FSR Tweed model with the Celestion G12H30 which gives it a very 60s and 70s rock & roll voice. Its got a very nice clean tone and more than enough gain to rip your face off, I absolutly love it!
Some of the early Bassbreakers had some reliability concerns and the digital reverb can be noisy but mine is working flawlessly and my amp guy isn't scared of anything, plus my reverb comes from a pedal so. . .

I always shake my head in disbelief when people ask "is a 15 watt valve amp loud enough to play in a band"? I'm unsure how loud people want their amp to be, but 15 watts is plenty loud, providing you don't need it to be clean. I'd rather a 212 though, but then they're so damn heavy.

This one i always wished they made in a head version... I used to have the III/3rd Gen. I bought it because people said it was too 'bassy' but I was looking to play a Bass VI with guitar as well... Now what I did is hook up the amp to a 210 bass cab I owned just in case and after trying the VI put in my P-bass and after some minor dialing you had this really nice tube bass sound that was more than usable in a studio environment. Also back then a guy used to mod them to sound like a more expensive Fender amp I forget which, so people would get 1 or 2 of these mod them an use them instead of the more expensive one for gigs

I got the Jensen speaker and it's really nice too. I guess it's supposed to be the vintage og tweed sound because they haven't made amp speakers in over 70 years and all their old blueprints were lost in a fire and they went and purchased dozens of vintage tweeds to study and make sure they were exactly reproducing their original 1900s speaker. There was an entire doc about it somewhere on CZcams if you like that sort of thing.

People say these are not reliable. All I can say is that I had version 2 and used it regularly for gigs for about 4 years. It always sounded fine to me. I used it with a BD2, a SD1, a TR2 and a Carbon Copy. They went well together. I sold it to buy a Hot Rod Deluxe but I didn’t keep that amp for anywhere near as long. When I sold the Hot Rod the BJ was onto the 3rd version and at that point I allowed myself to be put off by forum comments. Now I take less notice of them and I’m quite interested in the version 4 BJ.

Sorry, but the Monoprice 15 watt tube amp is not a clone of the Blues Jr. It's actually a Laney Cub 15R clone with a spring reverb instead of a digital one. The tube compliment is the same as the Blues Jr, but that's where the similarities end. The preamp section of the Laney/Monoprice circuit is actually a near clone of one of the Marshall circuits from the 80s...

Didn't know anything about Jensen till I found a mini doc about the factory returning to amp speakers for the first time since the original tweeds. It's not like "hey, we're Jenson! Let's start making amp speakers again! Hooray!". They actually went the extra mile to recreate, to the best of their ability, the original speaker that they used to make for Fender like in the 30's. It is so clean. Like volume on 12 loud clean. I also have a hot rod, which is VERY LOUD for me but my question is; is Hot Rod actually just the stripper name for a Blues Sr.? They are extremely similar in design just one is bigger with more stuff.

What… they can’t be IN ORDER, Fender?!? For cryin’ out loud.
Personally, I really like the Blues Junior amps. At least I’ve liked my older model. (My EQ was built in order)
Not everyone seems to like them, but not everyone likes anything. You’re right on about gain, Landon. Unless you’re going to use boost in your pedalboard’s signal path this isn’t going to give you a ton of gain.

Owned the BJ IV. Played it for a couple of years. Sold it last year since I only played the Deluxe Reverb Tone Master for my Fender tones. Never really loved the BJ IV... Personally, I think the Deluxe Reverb is superior in almost every aspect (sound, volume, versatility...)

I’m here for your honest opinion, if I had one I could share my opinion. I’m in doubt of this one or a vox ac15c1. I play blues and jazz. Please enlighten me

Not to be a downer , but as an amp builder , I can tell you these amps have some problems. Some of the problems can be rectified, and I'd do it sooner rather than later. Check out a video or two on reliability issues .
I'm not saying it's a total lemon, but they put some real cheap ass parts in these and the hot rod amps. Be careful with the pots and jacks . They are cheap plastic and break easily. The bias is wrong on the power tubes, and they'll burn out prematurely.
There are also some mods that are really easy to do that will make it sound better.
    Cheers

All I can say is, save yourself $900 and get the Joyo Bluejay or the Bugera t5 Infinium. I have both great blues amps.

I usually hate this amp in the room, but have gotten some great recordings out of it. Never owned one, but used one in the studio quite a bit. I usually plug in and am like “wow that sounds terrible Lmao!!!” but it always ends up great in a mix.
