      I wish the best for you and your fiance on your move to the states one day. Our previous president's blanket ban on Iranians sure upended many people's lives. I hope everyone is aware of the injustices she has and will continue to face just because she is from inconvenient country or from a certain religion. But let's be real, homeboy placed a ban on Muslims but had to revise the legislation several times so it wouldn't be struck down by the courts. So here we are, Iranians are banned for this reason.

    The US has the same thing. If you have a H1B work visa and it expires, you have 10 days to leave the US. However, there is a chance to get an extension for a total of 60 days till you have to leave. Every country has these laws were you have to leave after a work visa is over, it might be more or less days.

      I spent six years living in Thailand on a tourist visa. During this time, I began dating a Thai woman who I later married. Right from the beginning, we discovered that it was considerably easier for her (as my girlfriend) to obtain a US visa and stay with me in the United States than it was for me to stay in Thailand while constantly dealing with visa extensions.
      Once she had a six-month US visa, the process was straightforward for her. She didn't have to worry about 90-day reporting, extensions, or any other complexities. When we finally got married, I was optimistic, thinking that my visa situation in Thailand would become more manageable, and I could stay without hassles. However, we soon realized that this wasn't the case. I still had to renew my Thai marriage visa annually, which involves the same amount of paperwork required for my wife to obtain a US green card. The key difference is that she can now stay in the US indefinitely and is even on the path to becoming a citizen, while I continue to renew my Thai marriage visa each year and go through the 90-day reporting process.
      All in all, we've found that it's far more straightforward for a Thai citizen, whether married or not, to stay in the US than it is for a US citizen to stay in Thailand. Unfortunately, I don't have the financial means to afford a Thai elite visa, I'm not old enough to retire there, and I don't fit into any of the other visa categories available.

    I'm glad that it's hard to immigrate to Thailand. That's what keeps it homogenous. That's why I want to move there even though I'll be an extreme minority.
    It's too easy to legally or illegally immigrate to Western countries and it's destroying the Western culture.

    • @VidNibs
      @VidNibs Před 8 měsíci +5

      I appreciate your perspective on immigration and cultural preservation, but I'd like to offer a different viewpoint. Thailand indeed has immigration regulations, but it's worth noting that Thailand is one of the world's top tourist destinations, welcoming around 40 million tourists annually before the COVID pandemic. Consequently, you wouldn't necessarily feel like an extreme minority in Thailand. Foreigners are quite prevalent in many parts of the country due to its thriving tourism industry.
      While Thailand may have strict immigration laws in place, the reality is that it still sees a significant influx of visitors, which contributes to its cultural diversity. In major Thai cities, you will encounter foreigners almost everywhere you go. The only exceptions might be remote areas like northeastern Thailand (Isan), primarily focused on agriculture and less frequented by tourists.
      Furthermore, it's important to acknowledge the substantial number of mixed-race couples in Thailand, often involving white males and Thai wives. This diversity in relationships and backgrounds further adds to Thailand's multicultural landscape.
      In essence, the narrative that Thailand's tough immigration laws lead to homogeneity doesn't fully align with the reality of a country that embraces a rich tapestry of cultures, thanks in part to its thriving tourism and the relationships formed within its diverse community.

    I lived in Thailand for 2 year from 2004-2006. I am from the SF Bay Area too where I currently reside. I was an English and Math teacher and lived in Songkhla, Suratthani, and Chiang Rai. I really enjoyed being immersed in the culture - it really is a charming and pleasant culture. Thais are very kind people.
    The reason I left was because it was limited what I can do there at the time. These days there are many more options including being a Digital Nomad which intrigues me.
    One of the challenges I experienced there was staying productive. It's very easy to get off track and socialize like the nightlife, etc. If I had to live there again I'd live somewhere up North where I would be more immersed in the local culture and away from foreign areas ( but not too far so I can get a dose of it when needed).
    Now I'm reconsidering moving back, but will probably go to Vietnam instead.

    I think Dubai is an ok place for a couple years if you're able to leverage something you're working in an save money as its tax free. Its also generally a very safe place and very easy to get around and get things done generally.
    I lived there for 18 months 6 yrars ago and the air quality is absolutely horrible. The UAE regularly appears in top 10 lists for poorest air quality globally so mentioning air quality of Bangkok as a reason to move to Dubai doesn't make a lot of sense to me to be honest.
    Other than that here's really no comparison with Thailand. I mean its got absolutely no soul, no real culture to speak of, horrible weather half the year ( or all of the year if you appreciate rain / natural lushness)
    It feals artificial because it is. I mean just look at Dubai and what's around it - or not around it more accurately - as you fly in. That's if you can see it through the dusty smog.

    • @VidNibs
      @VidNibs Před 8 měsíci +6

      Organic foods can be found in stores like Lotus, Tops, Gourmet Market, and others in Thailand. However, they tend to be more expensive compared to the prices in the US. Interestingly, most of the organic products I encountered on Thai store shelves were imported from Western countries, including the US. Notably, I have rarely come across organic chicken in Thai grocery stores. To obtain organic chicken, one usually has to source it from private farms, which will also be costly.
      The availability of grass-fed and grass-finished beef is extremely limited in Thailand. This scarcity is primarily due to Thai preferences for grain-fed beef, which they find more appealing in terms of taste. There is generally limited awareness about healthy food choices, which explains why most supermarkets primarily stock grain-fed beef from Thailand, as well as imports from countries like Japan, New Zealand, Australia, and the US.
      In terms of cost, I observed that all types of beef tend to be more expensive in Thailand compared to the US. There's a significant reason behind the fact that most Thais seldom consume beef-it's simply not within their budget. It's usually the Thai elites who can afford to indulge in a great-tasting steak that costs anywhere from $50 to $100. The majority of Thais opt for pork as it's the most affordable commercially available meat option.

    True there is much to love but......there are things that are very unfair in Thailand for foreigners. Yet when we lived in the USA my Thai wife was immediately given 6 month visa & SS# & work permit. After that she was given 2 year visa (no 90 day BS etc) then in her 3rd year in USA she was give full US citizenship. I sometimes feel Thailand could at least reciprocate a bit & at the very least allow a couple year visa without 90 day BS TM30 etc etc Also like your friend said food especially street food is unhealthy to the max in Thailand...But we cook at home so no prob. But he is right the oils the sugar etc

    • @VidNibs
      @VidNibs Před 8 měsíci +2

      So true. Similar experience here. My Thai wife and I came to realize that it was notably simpler for her (when she was my girlfriend) to secure a US visa and join me in the United States compared to my efforts to maintain my stay in Thailand, which involved constant visa extensions.
      Once she obtained a six-month US visa, her journey was relatively uncomplicated. She didn't grapple with concerns related to 90-day reporting, extensions, or other intricate procedures. When we eventually tied the knot, I harbored optimism, believing that my visa situation in Thailand would streamline, allowing me to stay hassle-free. Regrettably, we soon discerned that this wasn't the case. I still had to renew my Thai marriage visa annually, entailing nearly the same amount of paperwork required for my wife to acquire a US green card. The fundamental disparity is that she now enjoys the privilege of indefinite stay in the US and even embarks on the path to citizenship, while I persist in renewing my Thai marriage visa each year and navigating the 90-day reporting process.
      In conclusion, our experience highlights that it's markedly more straightforward for a Thai citizen, regardless of marital status, to reside in the US compared to the challenges faced by a US citizen seeking to maintain residency in Thailand.

    I agree with everything he said. I spent six years living in Thailand and recently moved back to the US. While I miss many things about Thailand, it has become increasingly expensive. I find that I spend less on groceries here in the US when I compare the quality of food and meat directly to my time in Bangkok.
    Contrary to popular belief, Thai food isn't necessarily healthy. The exception is when it's prepared at home with quality ingredients, something my Thai wife excelled at. However, we discovered that cooking with quality ingredients is both easier and more cost-effective in the US. Thais often use vegetable oils extensively, which can be worse for their health than the excessive sugar and MSG they incorporate into every meal. The worst culprits are soybean, peanut, and canola oils, in that order. These are considered some of the least healthy cooking oils.
    Carb overload is another issue, and in general, Thais lack awareness about healthy foods and lifestyles. If you follow diets like gluten-free or keto, living in Thailand can be challenging. Additionally, other luxuries like cars, houses, and electronics are all quite expensive in Thailand. Land prices are high, often ranging from 0.5 to 1 million USD. Import duties on luxury cars can reach 200-300%. The list goes on.
    In terms of value for money, we found that we can afford a much nicer, well-constructed house in the USA compared to popular cities in Thailand like Chonburi, Hua Hin, Bangkok, or Chiang Mai. All in all, life is surprisingly more affordable for us in the USA. The only way I can see Thailand being less expensive is if we were to exclusively consume unhealthy street food, rent a basic apartment, and lead a minimalist lifestyle, similar to the average digital nomad. However, if you have ambitions, appreciate quality, and enjoy luxuries, then Thailand is not a great place to live by any stretch.

      @@viktor.egelund It's a challenging question to tackle because everyone's expectations and context vary. I've had the opportunity to visit Zurich and vacationed multiple times in the northern regions of Italy, which serve as my primary reference points. Personally, I would steer clear of the major US cities like Los Angeles, New York, or Chicago, mainly because they tend to be overpriced and overcrowded.

    Devil's advocate here... If rice and noodles is really that bad for you.. Asian would have been the ones with the obesity or heart disease pandemic .. In the Chinese language, "to have a meal" is literally translate as "eat rice". And almost every single Asian dish to my knowledge is filled with nothing but carbs, yet Asian countries account for 50% of the top 10 highest life expectancy countries in the world, and Thailand is surprisingly higher than the US. Also the medical standard in Asia could not be more advance than the west.. just for a second thought

    Finally someone is talking about how unhealthy Thai food is!! I am on Keto and I find it is extremely hard to find quality meat and keto friendly food in the supermarket. Dark Choc is 4-5 times more expensive than Australia. Look at the isles in Lotus and Tops-clean veggies are limited but there are multiple isles of packaged junk food full of sugar and seed oil. We are leaving Thailand soon and that is one of the reasons. Another thing is lack of footpath. You generally walk much less and it is against my life style!!

    American with a Thai wife here. Such a sweetheart ❤. Her mom died this year. She was 94. Thais are tough people and they live as long as Americans. I think that it’s the Nam Pla (fish sauce) that gets them eventually. Too much salt- diabetes and heart problems. Just like Americans. I think Thailand is a great place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live there. I’ve been there for the Thai new year in the hot season. So hot, especially if your body is not used to it. I’ve been there when the family home was flooded, too. My wife loves the cool weather in Idaho. The air pollution is very bad in Bangkok and other places. The government is horrible. Charging foreigners double or more for entry fees? That’s Thailand in a nutshell. 😂

    This guy loves it being everything cheap in Thailand and he claims he's come from a privileged background in the US? Does anyone know what this guy was during his service? I bet he wasn't an officer, he just doesn't seem and doesn't sound like that kind of material. If he started his military career as a private, it's very much likely that whatever high school was the last school he went to. As far as I know most people from privileged families go to college unless they are so terribly bad at school works.

I thought it was easy peasy to move a family to Thailand like you had suggested in other videos.
