Funny stuff. I've used all these gadgets at some point in my life as they were in my grandmothers kitchen. Interestingly, as the CRH pointed out, they've made inferior plastic items that are designed to do the same thing. However, they rarely perform as well as the metal or bakelite originals. Also, this type of _Kitchenalia_ is super collectible and is going up in value all the time. Corkscrews, egg whisks/beaters, wooden handled cooking implements such as mashers, particularly sets, are really sought after. I still have my grandmothers pastry blender. I use it all the time when baking.

The potato gadget is called a "ricer" because the potato looks like rice when it comes out. My mum had one from the 1950s.
It's not said wrong either way. The periodic table has several different names for each element depending on country. In america, Al is aluminum, in other places, it's aluminium. That is why people pronounce it differently.
While both spellings are used in day to day life, the IUPAC standardized aluminium in 1990, so it is technically the correct spelling of the word. Aluminum actually predates Aluminium, though. Humphry Davy, the guy that discovered the element, initially called it Alumium, then Aluminum, then settled on Aluminium in 1812. Aluminium was actually the preferred spelling even in the US until around the turn of the 20th century, when most journalists used the -um ending rather than the -ium ending, thanks to the 1828 and 1913 Noah Webster's dictionary using the -um ending.

Its a potato ricer, used to make potato or other such cooked root vegetable into fine rice like grains. These were used to make smooth purees more easily before the blender or food processor came along; after ricing things still needed further beating and addition of ingredients for whatever was being prepared.

I live vintage stuff. It can sometimes outperform the new stuff. I have vintage coleman lanterns 60+ years old, my oldest one(s) to be from 1945 to be precise. Some range down to 1920's, and guess what? They work as good as the new ones. But the the catch is, theyre more durable, as long as you take good care of them. The new ones use hollow plastic valve wheels, and rubber O rings to seal off the valve. The older ones use a solid plastic valve wheel, graphite packing to seal off the valve, some globes that arent made in china, and the fuel tanks are made of brass, and one part steel, so that means less rust if moisture is present. New ones are made of all steel, so that means rust. I mean, the new ones do their job, but i simply think the old ones are built more tough and last longer. I restored 10, (got them up and running, and minor cleaning) and they all work awesome.
