I guess my brace maker must not have been very good at making the brace made for me when I was 14. It was a traditional brace. I know why those are prescribed so often. They are BIG, BIG money makers. That thing caused me so much more physical pain than just the scoliosis alone did. It was humiliating to be forced to wear the thing around other people, because clothes just don't fit right over them. They are hot and they pinch you if you sit anywhere that is hard surface (like a desk at school). Also, like you said, traditional braces do the patient very little good. I am 40 years old and I still curse that wretched doctor's name who sentenced me to such unnecessary misery. After begging my mother for months to change the doctor, my new doctor told me he didn't see any reason for me to be in a brace. (If I remember correctly, he seemed to think a female's spine usually doesn't grow much more after having periods for a year or longer. ) Guess what, I had that instrument of torture outside and waiting for the garbage men to take it to the county dump that very afternoon!
I am telling this long story, because I hope anyone considering a traditional brace will take this to heart, and at the very least get a second opinion and do their own research. Never blindly trust anyone, especially someone who stands to make a lot of money from you such as these doctors and their brace-building cohorts.
With that said, I would be open to the possible pursuit of this new type of bracing. This video is quite compelling, because everything said on here, I know to be true from my personal experience. Stretching and exercise has helped me much more than that torturous and expensive traditional brace. Also, chiropractic adjustments have lessened my curve by 6 degrees. I wish had pursued the exercises, stretching and adjustments as soon as the diagnosis was made. (I have stretched and exercised my whole life; I mean stretching and exercising pertaining to the scoliosis. )
Thank you for posting this video. I don't know whether I would be a good candidate for the new bracing, but I am going read up on it. I sure hope the young people being treated for scoliosis these days will have a much better experience than I did at 14. And for what it is worth, all of the people I know who were prescribed a traditional brace agree with me that it was a terrible experience.

Mann... I feel you.. been wearing that boston brace for 5 years, and the thrid (last brace) I had, increased my S curves because the instrument maker measured It up wrong. Before I wore that brace, I was unaware of my scoliosis, wearing the brace made me feel much pain, made me stop from playing football, had me quitting school, made me emberassed because of the looks, and kept me isolated from others, because the brace hurts when walking, cycling and even sitting, because It pinches your hips, back and is very uncomfotable for a man down under

@@kurtvandermeij6200 Wow, I don't know how anybody could stand that for 5 years. I would have probably quit if the brace was worsening the problem. I'm sure you've got your reasons though.
My doctor wouldn't even give me an exemption from P.E. I had to run every day wearing the brace. It rubbed my skin raw the entire time I wore it. I wore a shirt under mine, which was always drenched with sweat. Even though I took an extra shirt to swap out after PE, it still got wet from the sweat that had soaked into the brace.
Parents should not just automatically trust doctors prescribing those braces.
I hope you will eventually have some improvement. Please tell me if you come across a treatment that actually helps. Good luck.

Hi, I'm so sorry you had this experience! I too was offered a brace at about that same age, but fortunately was also given the option to decline it. I declined because I was already painfully shy and timid, and didn't want to be "that girl that wears a brace" because I thought I may just fade away into the woodwork, lol. I'm here now looking for a brace which will help me to sit up straighter in hopes this will elevate my thoracic pain. Best wishes to you for relief, from me in Idaho 💜

Hello. I'm finding your videos very interesting. I have wondered for a long time if there was some sort of corrective brace that could help my moderate scoliosis. I may be too old for any kind of treatment; I'll be 66 in a few months. I'm not sure, but I think my scoliosis was acquired; I spent ten years with a heavy camera bag on my left shoulder every day, as a professional photographer. All the other years of my working life were spent as a musician, with a 7lb (approx) bass or guitar hanging on that same shoulder for up to four hours a night, up to five nights a week. I was shocked to see what I think is a 30 (ish) degree curve on an x-ray taken by a chiropractor. Is there a way I can contact you to send you that image? Thanks very much, RR, Tulsa, OK.

Hi doctor, I would be grateful if you answer my question. My sister has 2 curve scoliosis left upper back (29)and Right lower back (35) degrees. She is 23 years old. A doctor has recommended she use some exercises to treat her scoliosis and also a 3d corset which is very expensive 5 thousand USD. Another doctor tells that, a 3d corset will actually make her scoliosis worse. I am wondering if we need to buy a 3d corset because it is a bit expensive for us and also, I am worried it might make her scoliosis worse. Thanks.
