    Hey, would you recommend shoes like Barefoot or similar type of shoes for scoliosis or kyphosis? Do you think that the type of shoes we wear can have an impact on our posture and spine?
    When I was growing up, I used to hear that I should wear heels so that my back (kyphosis) straightens and that my shoulders are pushed back because I hunchback. I wonder if that holds up true because I've heard some contradicting information regarding heels and now there's this barefoot shoes trend that's getting talked about... I'm curious what you think.
    Thank you so much for making videos on various topics!

    • @TSCConnect
      @TSCConnect  Před rokem +3

      Yes, shoes can definitely impact our posture and spine as their shape and structure affect how our feet and leg muscles move and work.
      For shoes, there's no recommendation for types specifically FOR scoliosis or kyphosis.
      High heels have cons for many reasons; aside from squishing the toes, it transfers the body weight into the balls of the foot and the pelvis often tips forward to accommodate the changes in weight distribution. That can result in increase lumbar lordosis (scoop of lower back) which is also typically over emphasized in hyperkyphosis, so we wouldn't recommend high heels FOR any specific condition.
      Barefoot / minimalistic shoes have their benefits but would require a thoughtful adjustment period to minimize risk of injury. Please seek guidance from a Physiotherapist if you're going to transition to these shoes, especially if you're planning to train/run/workout in them.

    • @TSCConnect
      @TSCConnect  Před rokem +1

      There are hundreds of exercises that you can do in the gym, including all the ones we have in our workouts on our channel, the technique for any exercise matters more than the choice of the exercise. You can add weights to any of these. Bodybuilding is about choosing the right weights/sets/reps/breaks + diet if you want to build muscle and lean out. On this channel we focus on general strength and encouraging people with scoliosis to feel safe when exercising, and don’t focus so much on esthetics goals like size or composition.

    Does it apply to when you sleep in a brace? What recommendations would you give then?

    • @TSCConnect
      @TSCConnect  Před rokem +2

      In a brace, sleeping position doesn't matter as much since the brace maintains the corrective alignment of the spine throughout the night.

    Hello) thanks for the video! I have a question related to this topick. Ive been sleeping on the floor for the last 2 month, with the pillows under my knees. My doctor recommended it to me. I am trying to sleep in a straight possition, but its not natural for me, i am a side sleeper. And somewhere at the middle of the night i turn onto my sides. My question: can sleeping on the side (on the floor) damage my spine and my posture? I feel discomfort at the upper back (at sholders and arms), ceause the surfice is too hard. Of course i am laying a carpet and some kind of blanket to make it softer, but it still uncomfortable.Thank you) I know I should ask my doctor about that, but i would like to hear a different perspective too. Thanks again) I whould be happy to hear from you.

    • @TSCConnect
      @TSCConnect  Před rokem +1

      Hello! That's a fairly specific question so we can't give medical advice on CZcams, and your chiropractor may have had specific reasons for recommending the floor.
      What we say to our clients here in our clinics is to sleep on a firmer mattress which is typically supportive enough while still being comfortable.

      Definitely a relief when you realize you don't have to change your sleeping position! "Properly" is subjective though, because we still really emphasize sleep quality, regardless of sleeping position, as it impacts so many aspects of our general health. So if you have to move around, it's okay.
