    Melo is getting use to not being able to do whatever the hell he wants he's in a new system and he's starting to play defense and actually adapt to his position.

    • @mattnorris7124
      @mattnorris7124 Před 6 lety +6

      His biggest issue still is not being able to make plays through contact, but that'll come with time and with some focus on his strength and conditioning, some of which he'll naturally get through playing against grown men. Still really impressed with how he's improved on the defensive end and the fact that he's reading plays well on that end. Needs to stay with it a bit more offensively and just slow down a touch to help benefit his decision making. Gelo was really impressive this time out, his shot seems to be clicking for him a bit more and I like the fact he was posting up more in this game because I feel like he can be really effective playing that way. The more game time these boys get, the better they'll get, just gotta stay the course and stay locked in.

      And he still missed some easy shot... TNeed to see how he does against top teams in the league but if he keeps on improving the guy might average 15-20 pts in his first season. If he doesn't get drafted i'm pretty sure a team like Zalgiris will sign him.

      @mattnorris7124 Před 6 lety +2

      I feel like he gets overlooked a bit because he doesn't play to his greatest strength enough, which is literally his size and strength. I say this a lot, but he could be a go-to killer on the block and backing guys down. He uses his shoulders well in the post and he's powerful enough to shift bodies to give himself easy shots. Shot seems to be finding some consistency though which is always great to see.

      alex barboni That shows how dumb you are. balls basically bought a bankrupted team, which is not eligible to buy good players. Some of the players even have second jobs. They can win against 1 or two teams, others just messing with them, letting bench players to play. Five players of the opposing team scored over 15 points. If both teams are good you won't see scores like 116, it's not possible. The way basketball is played in Europe is not as fast-paced and focused on the individual like it is in the NBA, for the most part.

      Ryuji the Goat no it’s not. People are confused here. These pro teams have main squads and b squads like a g league type team. That’s what this is. Just because they are “grown men” which in fact most of these guys are not does not mean it is high level competition. Just use your common sense when you watch do any of these guys look like high quality basketball players. I mean seriously. They’re not bad but it’s not “professional” in an American sense of the word.

      Han cholo he can play guard and small forward. He’s a good shooting guard for his height.

    How many shooting guards do you know, thats 19 years old with a developed low post game?
    I don't know why y yhall can't see it, Gelo is like Klay Thomas only with an added low post game. The boy is strong and can shoot lights out. His defense of potential to
    Defend 1-3 is coming. Just watch, If he stays focus!! He'll be special

      Klay has way faster feet. Gelo relies on the post because he's not fast. Gelo is fairly slow by Lithuanian standards, the NBA would destroy him. In Lithuania he can rely on post moves and wide open shots. He's not doing anything out there that requires speed.

      J Subtext- Everyone is entitled to there own opinion but yours is wrong my friend. The reason why gelo post up isn't because he's so slow but it's because he's so much stronger than majority of the players guarding him. They got videos online of this guy benching 315. Lonzo is his older brother and will admit that he isn't stronger than gelo. Lonzo is a NBA guard and he doesn't come close to his little brother Gelo strength. So gelo super fast but he isn't handicap slow either. He's simply using his advantage of strength. Most 2 guards are tall and lanky, gelo is saying if this dued is guarding me I'll go right in front of the hoop because he can't stop me there. That's good fundamental basketball
      As for your speed comment...
      Klay isn't fast either. Gelo and Klay are comparable when it comes to
      Speed.

      I see your point about strength and I agree he's way stronger than Lonzo. He's relying on strength in the Euro league though and while he's not slow for LKL standards, he's definitely not very fast either. Melo is much faster but has much more average lateral quickness which will be a problem at the highest levels. Gelo appears to possibly have similar speed to Klay but less quickness. Watching Klay on defense, he just seems like he has better agility than what Gelo can get going unless it is his anticipation that makes him appear more quick. Gelo seems a bit too slow for NBA SG but possibly built more for SF. Problem is SFs on average have gotten so tall and fast in recent years it's getting harder to make it in the NBA. A small disadvantage means a lot more at elite levels.
      Maybe you can say he's a VERY poor man's Klay (with a lot of development).

      I see what your saying but things have changed. Have you seen a NBA game lately? The halfcourt pace is not fast at all. These days it's all about the pick and roll, read and react game. Basically, players are looking and waiting for openings off of picks, shooting the three, or attacking the basket and/or finding the open man in the corner. So the speed of the game isn't what it was when ISO ball was popular. Fast breaks are still fast but the league is ran by a bunch of guys in or nearing 30, if Gelo can't run with these guys then it will be because of heart and effort not speed.

      You're completely right about the pick and roll being completely dominant in today's NBA but having agility still makes a difference in many situations. Having more agility still often makes the difference when shots are contested and more so in the backcourt where Gelo would play. Team defense and great footwork can make him a better defender but it's always more difficult with below average quickness, especially against top teams. Also if he ends up being a poor defender, it'll be harder to earn minutes unless his offense is really special. There are a lot of great players that don't make it in the NBA because their athletic ability is just a few notches too low. Some players overcome this but I have my doubts about Gelo.
