I think it's fair.
F-4E has TWICE as many missiles and half of those are radar missiles. J-7E's missiles are better IR missiles, but it's only those 4-no SARH anything. Also, the F-4E has a way better gun and more ammo as well as a higher top speed. Acceleration is similar.
J-7E only clearly beats the F-4E in maneuvers and energy retention. All dogfights will easily go to the J-7E no question, but the F-4E doesn't have to dogfight.
I think they're fairly matched.

F-4C is in a much better place imo. If you take it to high alt (~6000) you can tangle with the MiG-21S players that are bound to be up there and you heavily outrange them with the Sparrows. There are often A-5Cs and (in a downtier) F-104As up there for some reason too. If you're lucky you can net 2 completely free kills that way.
Even in a full uptier, you're not likely to see anyone who will try to contest you in BVR, the only things that really can are F-4EJs, and I've only seen one F-4EJ player that isn't mentally broken into just bombing.
After you survive the high altitude joust, you'll be much higher than all of the missile slingers that can take advantage of your flarelessness, so you can just drop IRs from orbit until the game ends. It's not a super good or meta plane, but I don't think it suffers too bad and is definitely in a better place than the 11.0 F-4Es.
@@storagedisk Dont you think having no flares at that br Is bad. Because when I was playing the f4c before I got the E variant I suffered so hard from not having flares. Though shooting rockets works but not always
@@sl9556 I mean, it'd be nice to have flares, but I think the F-4C can get away with not having them a lot of the time. I don't even bother running the rocket pods as ghetto flares on it, though I do on the T-2.
F-4C is quite fast for 10.0, and like I said if you stay up high there aren't going to be a lot of missiles coming your way. I think like maybe one time I've seen a Su-25 climb up to 6km, but otherwise it's just going to be guys with rear aspect IR or radar missiles that are inferior to yours. Stay fast, stay high, and you should be able to avoid ending up in someone's launch window most of the time. I'm not saying it's a great 10.0, but I think it's better able to handle its opposition than the F-4E is at 11.0.

FGR.2/FG.1 are pretty decent all things condsidered compared to the F-4E. You trade in manouverability and internal gunpod in return for a PD radar, better IR missiles, and a lot more thrust. In the current meta those tradeoffs are more of a benefit than a hinderence, especially having a PD radar and the huge thrust increase.
Run 20 mins of fuel and no gun pod, the UK phantoms are fucking ufo’s and the missiles can make up for no gun the vast majority of the time

@@roadhigher The better thrust is literally negated when you take the gunpod, and to be frank the gunpod is required on the FGR.2/FG.1. Heck with the increase of weight and drag from the gunpod, you will be slower than the F4E in top speed and acceleration past 1200km/h. This is also not mentioning the current saddest phantom, the British F4J as it lacks the better engines, less flares, and still has to carry the heavy gunpod, it also only get skyflashes and not the AIM 7Fs. How is the british F4J still 11.3br is a mystery.
At this point, the FGR.2/FG.1 could drop down to 11.0br and it would be balanced, as currently I would rather play the F4E at 11.0br than the British phantoms at 11.3br.
They should add upgrade kits similar to what is on the 2s6 that modernizes any aircraft that recieved modernization. Later in its service life, the F-4E got PD radar, and better missiles. This should be a mod availible for research in a new rank V part of the modifications that grants it access to its better weaponry, but moves it from 11.0 to 11.3/.7
Exactly. Both the F-4E and F-4S carried AIM-7Ms and AIM-9Ls in the 80s... Being stuck with -7Fs am -9Gs when going up against -60Ms and -9Ls seriously sucks.
F-4E's carried AIM-9L in real life, I think she needs those.
They carried aim7ms and aim9ms also laser bombs and maverick d's as they were in service till93

It's just crazy how F-4s go up against F-16s and F-15s. Even the F-4J vs F-14A seems quite bad and those are only 0.3 br apart.

F-4E at 11.0 just simply lack the kit. Even some noobs who eat AIM-54 consistantly know hugging the deck everytime, then AIM-7E-2 is defeated. Also the lack of range of the AIM-9J combined with the plane's not that fantastic speed on the deck (about 90kph slower that Mig-23 ML) certainly does not help.

From my recent experience with the matchmaking, US planes at 11.0 virtually always get 11.3 into their games because everyone and their dog plays either the MiG-23ML or the F-4S.
Tech tree that are not the US and Soviets have it somewhat easier and it is possible to not see 11.3 even around that bracket, but again, there is a ton of F-4S and MiG-23ML queued at any given time of day, so the chances are stacked against you.

Japanese F4EJ is even worse. No agile eagle, aim 7E instead of E2, and worse RWR, that cannot even tell you that you're locked by R24R user.

The EJ is also worse for GRB, lacking any sort of guided air to ground weapons when the F-4E gets walleyes, GBU-8s, mavericks, and bullpups. And then the F-4E can carry bombs up to 2000lbs while the EJ's largest bomb is 750lbs. There is not a single area where the EJ is better than the E.

This thing is a menace in sim. Realistic battles however... They recently nerfed the internal guideance on 7E2s, arguably the last thing F-4E had going for it, as much as I love this plane, I don't play it anymore. War thunder as a whole, for that matter.
i personally love the F-4E, if my profile didnt make it obvious. loved it when it first came out and still love using it right now. but I have to agree today's meta does make it kind of underwhelming, but it's what worked for me and I have fun in it
Honestly play the F-4E in Sim, it's a straight fucking demon at its sim br of 10.7. I managed to get the F-15 the day after it came out just by grinding sim with the F-4E, in sim you get the full multirole experience with the phantom. If you take the F-4E and nothing else you'll be able to bomb bases faster than everybody else and at 10.7 sim you're actually the best turn fighter as well and most ppl usually don't hug the floor so getting kills on other players is easy

@@DdrcxGfkkI’m about to be able to research the F4C in the US tech tree and I literally can’t wait. I can *kind* of do multirole in the A4E (which is my favourite way of playing, I don’t like being limited to only bases or air to air) but it’s still a bit lack lustre. It seems like a very good plane for bases as well as defending itself if needed.
The F4E Kurnass 2000 solves all of these problems!
6x Python 3 missiles (very good 40G all-aspect missiles, only drawback is no IRCCM, works great if you fire during a head-on 1-2km away as they cannot react in time to flare)
290(!) countermeasures, more than the F15, due to the countermeasure pods, can just spam flares for days
One of the best PD radars in the game
Only drawback is the lack of radar missiles and a 0.3 br increase over the normal F4e - well worth it though!

I spaded the F4E recently and it wasn’t too bad of a grind. The good thing about this plane still has it is now one of the better CAS planes for USA top tier because you can still drop the GBU’s over mach 1.
Id rather play the F4E than any other phantom in game i love it the internal gun with agile eagle is a great combo and i feel like the aim7e2 are more reliable because u dont have pd radar i don't know what it is i just really hate the skyflashes on the British ones
you should try to play an F-5E (or any other F-5) and try to get an air to air kill with the maverick

hey Seek I bought your decal a couple of days ago. Also yes the phantoms have seen better days. I was excited to get my favorite looking jet and fly peacefully on custom battles but I saw that i needed top tiers to avoid people from bothering me.
. The issue with the missile stat cards is that usually people tend to believe them way too much and then you go to tac view and think that the aim7m that should do 25g suddenly pulls 50g's to completely obliterate the target in the last second or an r24r barely pulling 10g's to get onto your position after making it turn as hard as possible lol.
Might be a good idea to try in sim, I find that planes that sort of suffer in RB are *insane* in Sim. A4E in RB isn’t great. If you load it for bases and air-to-air you’re slow as fuck, can’t turn for shit. I don’t know why, but in sim I am consistently able to bomb bases, then turn around and kill other people. Same thing with the sabre. Absolutely awful in RB (maybe not anymore since the br) changes but in sim it was really good when I was playing it. Maybe it’s the same for the phantoms, I’ll figure that out when I unlock the F4C
You should totally do a video on the Starfighters! You bringing up the Vulcan reminded me of that "interesting" fighter family. With the Hungarian sub tree I feel like talking about the starfighters would be a good move because of the influx of Italian air players now. Just an idea. Love the videos! I got a talisman drop for this plane even though i never played it before - it's definitely not the best one, bot it's not terrible too. Gave me a nice boost US top tiers, somehow the matchmaker wasn't too evil with me.
I had to grind the stock F-4EJ to grind the F-16AJ without GE or prem acc since I stopped feeding the snail back in 2018, F-4EJ is unimaginably useless, least competitive plane I have ever had to fly and I spaded the Japanese prop bomber line. I stopped bothering to bring the 7Es early on since on the rare chance I got to fire one due to the non-PD radar, they just pop chaff once and it's gone.
I mostly got through it by bombing 1 base each match, and then coming around behind the enemy to shoot off AIM-9P at distracted enemies, and win headons with the vulcan. There must be less competitive planes out there but I haven't flown one.

back in the day this plane was so good I actually bought a talisman for it and grinded the entire US air tree. It's now just a rust bucket sitting in my hangar that I never use
Yeah bro I grinded the Israel version (kurnass) from stock it was such a pain cause 95% of matches are up tiers, but when you do get a down tier you’re like a god, I would get 4,5,6 even seven kill games
G limits on missiles are an entirely useless metric. By their logic, SRAAMs are as agile as AIM-9Js.
The reason AIM-9G was outperformed by AIM-9J was because it was bugged so that it assumed a constant speed for its target(I think mach 0.9?) and thus often overled them. Once that bug was fixed, the performances became accurate- 9Js will outperform 9Gs in very close shots, but the extra energy of the 9G will allow it to perform better against most targets.
I am waiting to see how Heatblur's F4E is going to be on DCS and then im going to crack down on gaijin with everything I got lol
Back when the F-14A was announced, I only had the F-4E line and some of what is now the F-16 line.
I ended up grinding trough most of high tier with that F-4E until I got the F-4J.
462 battles in the F-4E, and I genuinely never want to touch a Phantom again.
after getting the F-4EJ I already watched the vids and it was barely nerfed back then, by the time I spaded the phantom and F-1, I prioritised the f16 because of how things changed (even more top tier and compression and uptier for the phantom), then when i got the F-4 EJ KAI, it was all just pain if it wasn't a down tier and incompetent team

I'm trying to grind the f-15 and choosing between F4E and F4J I take the former anytime. Not really sure why but the snappiness of the eagle package makes it so much better for me despite worse radar.
Been having fun in the Kurnass. Ain't bad considering the 90 countermeasures and 9G's still at 11.0.
Surprisingly I have had a lot of success straight up hard countering f14s in my Mig29, specifically the Italian one. The radar missile it gets is far, far faster than what the f14 uses and most users of the f14 don’t expect to face serious resistance. You climb to about 4-7km up lob a missile at 25 to 30km and then pitch down and to the side while guiding you missile in.
The reason you don't see any full down tiers is because there are only 4 10.0 aircraft in the game, of which half are in your tech tree and the other half are unpopular low-speed attackers.
This might change though with the early Mirage 3's going down to 10.0 this patch.
All the phantoms are hopelessly powercrept at this point. Theyre largely outclassed in RB. Still useful in sim though

and the literal only difference between the two is the fact the F4E carries Aim 7Es
Which also a side note: Im so excited for the F4F ice to come, Its gonna be the last song and dance of phantoms in this game and I think it will be the last good banger that platform will push out.
I just unlocked the F4E and was super excited.
That excitement was quickly tempered by disappointment.
Every time DEFYN takes this thing out, everyone is flying high, and it's radar shines. Every match i'm in, everyone is hugging the deck at best, or people who are high have way better radars and missiles than you do at worst.
Even in your video you are getting radar locks at lower altitudes than I can. The only way I can get this radar to lock is if i'm coming up from underneath someone, but the sparrows don't have the maneuverability for that kind of attack angle.
Was excited to play in the big leagues of 11.0+, but now i'm not so sure. At least not with this paperweight.
As someone who grinding out the F4E, it is a pain having almost every match being a full uptier despite being very common 11.3 premium jets. I feel it worst to stock grind even to the F4C which I got spaded through pain!

F-4E is still workable with 2 gun pods + stealth belts, 4 AIM-9s and 0 or 2 AIM-7s. As for its radar, I have a feeling that even Sapphire-21 is better at filtering ground clutter (plus it has smaller ACM scan area).
I do miss the old Top Tier meta and I really do hope when they add Fox 3’s there would be more BVR fights. (Plus Kurnass all the way)
not easy to keep up with enemy aircraft at its br, so instead of fighting, I do wild wiesel runs on enemy airfields launching mavericks at their spaa defense to prevent air field camping later on

I agree its not as capable as it used for be, but people underestimate the Echo Phantom so much. I get 5 or 6 kill games all the time. I usually hunt high before switching to the furball at low altitude. Still a great plane and my “fun” plane I go to all the time.

I do decent on this plane when I play it, it’s mostly outriders against f16 MiG 29s mirages etc but I do decent like 2 kills a match
Picked up the F4S on sale. It's been tough and humbling.
I know the feel. Wanted F16 so I started grinding US. It was all enjoyable with props until I got to jets. Its just atrocious experience to grind through early jets and after basic phantoms. I said it fuck it, and bought F4S also when it was on sale. Its ok jet for its BR. It honestly worked well for me since most guys assume you are just shit since you have premium and you can take advantage from it. HMD works wonders for F4S.
@@vasilije94 It needs an option. To press a button so your pilot smacks the radar. This way it will maintain the lock for the missiles 😆

The lack of good kit really kill the fun of this plane now. F-4S/F-4J is worse than this plane in every aspect except the radar and missiles (F-4J turns way worse while F-4S flys way slower and both need to take a gun pod so kind of lack the option to take a drop tank), but those 2 11.3 just have much better experience. 11.0 commonly saw downtier about 2 months ago, now is just seeing F-4S everytime.
But GRB is another story. Having a top tier RWR with Walleye that can still drop over mach is so much fun, though you have to suffer while stock grinding anyway lmao.
And drop tank will not make a difference in the future if Gaijin gives every plane drop tanks. Now you still can kind of use the 8 minute magical fuel and dog with some planes that lacks a drop tank (Which means you might get into the fight with 8 mins of fuel and enemy with 30 or more, kinda work at times)
Its ashame this F4 has just fallen behind other 11.0 aircraft some good times flying this beast out landed one of my first aces in it

Sure, because stock phantoms are great dogfighters. Anything stock grind is annoying at top or near top tier. Its all about missiles and you dont have them. You got stock performance which is dogshit, you are also phantom which is dogshit and then on top of that you got no missiles. Atrocious experience.
@@vasilije94 As someone who is currently stock grinding the F-16A with only two 9Js i feel that. The F-16A is an amazing dogfighter even stock but that doesn't matter when you're going up against 4 R-73s and 6 R-27ERs with a whopping 60 flares or fighting aircraft that can even out dogfight your F-16A (while you're stock) like spaded F-15s and JAS39 Gripens. Though after getting the boosters and AIM-9Ls the stock grind experiance has become a lot more fun.
@@M1A2C. i was about to write same comment but didnt want to go deep. I unlcoked F16A and my god, was it hard to grind early. F16A without upgrades is not agile at all, especially against top tiers, and 9j was just a joke. To be honest it was a pain until you get 9L. Finished two days ago with F16A. Now stock grind F16C. At least i get default 9L which is something i guess.

@@M1A2C. yea. I wanted F16A because i love dogfighting so i wanted to finish all upgrades cause i actually enjoy it, especially when you get low tier, its just super fun. I have F16A block 10, so no radar missiles. I just turn of radar and hunt people from sides. Super fun. But F16C is my favorite US jet, and i cant wait to finish unlocking 9M. 9M is just insane and almost game breaking at times. I know people say R73 is better, but in my opinion i think 9M is better with that smokelles engine cause people seem not to see it.
5:28 right there you could have locked him if you pointed the very bottom edge of your radar at the mirage, it makes it so that more of your radar is pointing at the sky, not the ground clutter, something i found useful in the f4e
You’re right but that means leaving the deck which means dying to SARHs. An example of this is immediately after at 5:47.

Now trying to grind Japan's air tree and the F-4EJ is the literal best option.
Its the fact that gaijin even understands that the 23ML/MLD/MLA outclass the F4E so in SIM the F4E is only 10.7 where is fights Mig21s which is far more accurate and far more far in terms of dogfighting potential.
The airframe of the Phantom isn't particularly bad despite what people say. But almost entirely how the radar is handled _IS_ . The F-4E's radar, despite having numerous provisions and a literal guy in the back seat to handle radar duties and ground clutter has worse low-alt performance than the F-8E. With the F-8E, you can literally track a dude down to the deck with your radar, but not with the F-4E. Manual spotlighting and TISEO lock doesn't exist which is an utter shame and disgrace.
Also, don't forget. Gaijin didn't even know what version of the F-4E they wanted to add. So they gave us a mishmash of Pre-ARN-101 standard and ARN-101 standard phantoms by giving us Agile Eagle but leaving out the TISEO Pod which would've basically acted as it's own 'sensor' scanning autonomously. The radar could be slaved as well. So if your TISEO pod got locked onto a plane, you can narrow the radar beam onto the target and even if he dipped low, theoretically. Shit didn't matter, because there's not much clutter when you have a resolution size that's basically the size of your target aircraft anyway.
This kind of complexity I'm sure gaijin can add, but they won't because it would only be useful for planes like the F-4E and F-14.

The 0.3 difference makes a notable difference between the F4e and F4s but the MiG 23s have the same problem like the MLA is much better than the MF

Kurnass, Israeli superior F4E was manageable thanks to longer ranged 9Gs. Otherwise Phantoms are good grinders courtesy of their ordnance carrying capability without compromising air to air.
Kurnass 2000 is... highly dependent on enemies being clueless, as Pythons are easily decoyed unless they already are in afterburner sniffing range. In Sim it is little monster though.

I picked up the F4EJ Japan premium a few weeks ago and I’ve never had so many downtiers. I got 10.0 50% or more of the time until the last few days.
I like playing the c viggen every once in a while and I get 10.0 games extremely often. Those A-5Cs never had a chance against my sparrows.
i just grinded the Gripen C with the FGR2 and it was such a bad experience i quit warthunder for a few weeks after it.
F4e is still the best phantom I had so many aces last week I think like 7 or 8 in one night

I'm stock grinding the F4E rn and I can tell you, AIM-9Es at 11.0 are terrible, though I've still gotten 5 or 6 kills with them. Just got the AIM-9Js but no sparrows just yet
Well, tbh if you’re above average player and you play against below average players then F-4J is not a bad plane even now when it faces f-16’s, f-15’s and 29’s in every single match. It turns kinda ok at speeds above 800kmh IAS, it has ok max speed, pretty good acceleration, not the best but definitely not a bad 20mm gun, 4 second best SARH missiles and 4 of very capable IR missiles (the only problem is that these IR missiles aren’t all-aspect)
is the GE for WT everywhere? is it actually good? or Legal? lmao
The one good thing about this flying pile of garbage is that is sees J-band on RWR, so a Mig-23 can't sneak up on it
And then on TOP of all that, they still refuse to give it the pave spike and paveways but gave it to every other phantom that carried them. So it's just as fucking useless in GRB

Idk, even in full uptiers in the f4e I’m able to get 4 or more kills. In sim it does really well at 10.7 with the digital rwr
I love the f4e still, I get the complaints but most of the ones I hear are just people who are too used to playing top- tier planes and not used to flying planes that don't have all the bells and wistles+playing planes that require more thinking when playing.

You should try the stock grind for Germany's top tier Mig-29s...I literally quit Air RB for that nation until it gets something better.
its not bc of the mig29, its bc of the Top tier Gameplay being shit in general. the G is actually pretty meta and I would count it to the top 5

Why is the F4E still 11:0? I feel like the only reason it remains 11:0 and not something like 10:7 is so that it won’t completely seal club everything in a down tier
grinded this after the powercreep and before you got flares stock... I always though it was pretty ass but playing the absolute shit that is the f4j I started to enjoy this one a lot more
27 min max for the f-4j uk is kinda ass especially if I want to stay in the combat zone. I also find the sky flash DF to be excellent during head on engagements with pulse Doppler bc it’s better at ignoring chaff.
