What's happening is factory fishing ships are over fishing the oceans! And when top predators loose the food source they move to a abundant food source! This is primarily why!

A friend of mine goes shark fishing in south Texas, right from the beach. They've seen a definite increase in them.
I thought shark infestation was caused by banning shark-fin soup.

Yes sharks do look scary, but you're more likely to get crushed by a vending machine than attacked by a shark. They actually have more to fear from us then we do from them, we've been killing them as disproportionately high rates driving them to extinction. Even though Jaws is an all time classic, it has had a demonstrably net negative impact on the public perception of sharks and the ocean ecosystem.
Vending machines can get you in shallow water where you least expect it.
I'm more worried about the garbage that comes from vending machines than getting crushed by them. Talk about flesh eating bacteria... 🥺
Exactly. The ONLY reason we hear about things such as shark attacks and plane crashes is because they do NOT happen! This video mentioned bacteria that kills 100 people a year. Over 100 people DIE (not counting all those maimed or disfigured) every single day in the US alone in auto accidents. Still, you'll never see a headline like "3000 killed in auto accidents this month!". Because it's every month, and not found newsworthy.
They don't fear humans. They don't know what we are. They don't have Arms to feel/inspect us so they make a testbite.

I swear this segment has just made me not want to go to the beach and that's all even though I was just talking about wanting to go to the beach on the hold up podcast episode about vacations
I can actually expand on that “humans look like seals” thing: when a shark looks upwards at a human laying down on a surfboard, the silhouette looks very similar to that of a seal or sea lion. This, in addition to their vision being distorted by sunlight and the movement of the water’s surface, can confuse them. Also, sharks really don’t prefer to eat humans; we have more bone than sustenance for them, and sharks can’t digest solid objects. So most shark attacks happen either because 1. the shark mistakes a human for another animal, or 2. they feel threatened and are defending themselves/their territory. Of course there’s the occasional “rogue shark”, but the same could be said for any other animal.
