      You really shouldn't compare those two. Linda's tone became "brassy" when singing in her upper range. This could be compared to the blaring of a trumpet 🎺 played too loudly.

    Her voice is high on the list of not just amazing women vocalists, but to me there is another list, of naturally gorgeous artists, male or female. I can never get tired of hearing her voice, or this song. This is sadness that one can sink one's teeth into. Really take a bite and savor it. Once in a lifetime, for me anyway. I've never heard another voice like it. Thanks for honoring and respecting her. Your true love of music and curiosity and playfulness is infectious! Huge hugs to both of you. Thank you!

    I've always thought that Karen Carpenter's singing was a lesson in voice control. I suspect when autotune was invented the baseline was Karen's voice.
    On a related note - I remember when she died. I was at a local fair and someone announced it over the intercom. There was a collective gasp in the crowd and the entire fair grounds went quiet for a few seconds. It was a sad day when we lost her.

    Her brother heard her sing and recognized her talent. He dragged her into singing , kicking and screaming to the microphone. She hated it but did it for her brother
    It's purely talent. No auto tune. She was pitch perfect. Her brother was implemental In her fame.

    I loved/ love Karen's voice. As a rocker, I wasn't hip on Richard's arrangements. I felt like he held her back from drumming and, in general, doing more uptempo songs. I'm not sure why she allowed him to control their careers. Anyway, Karen moved me, and I believed she had one of the most sensual voices ever. If you get the chance, find the video of her playing multiple drums; it's a hoot and gives insight into her love of music and talent.

    • @ffjsb

      They practically INVENTED the power ballad. There's NOTHING wrong with their arrangements, or their careers. Karen was going through something that nobody really understood or knew how to deal with at the time.

    • @keithroberts4952
      @keithroberts4952 Před 2 lety +1

      Don't think he held her back from drumming. Because she is such an amazing singer, it was suggested that she stand in front and sing rather than hide behind the drums. A bit like what Phil Collins had to do within genesis back in the day. I think Richard is a fantastic arranger/producer in the style of burt bacharach.

    • @andythrush3341
      @andythrush3341 Před 2 lety +1

      As I did more research, I found that Karen's parents, especially her mom, were very controlling, too. Her parents were kind of like Michael Jackson and Brian Wilson's parents. Her mom especially held sway over both of them. While Richard was in rehab for a drug addiction to downers, Karen wanted to do a solo LP to hopefully boost their waning popularity due to Richard's inability to adapt and alter their type of music. He was not happy, and when her LP was complete, he refused to release it for many years. All of these people loved each other, but they all got caught up in a business that can be vicious. Richard was her big brother and should have helped her reach the musical career that she wanted, even it it meant giving up his career for her. Just my opinion mind you. Karen deserved more love and support from her brother and her parents. Especially her mom.

  • @CFWhitman

    This song was written by Paul Williams and Roger Nichols. Richard Carpenter wrote a significant amount of the music The Carpenters did, but usually got someone else to collaborate on the lyrics. Of course, he also used songs written by others. Paul Williams was one of his favorite collaborators.
    One of Paul's most well known songs is "(Just an) Old Fashioned Love Song" which was a hit single for Three Dog Night. Paul's own version of the song was never released as a single, but got significant air time from the album it was released on, partly thanks to people knowing the Three Dog Night version. He also famously performed it on "The Muppet Show."

    Love your choice of music to react to! (Also, please react to Emilylou Harris, "Sweet Dreams". THANK YOU!)

    Hey Chod, I am totally with you on your quest for 100K subscribers! It always mystifies me how there are other music video reactors out there with far more subscribers than you who are not even half as good at it! With or without Dee on the channel you can always count on my support!
