Karen had the sweetest most angelic voice! Huge Carpenter's fan!
YOU! YOU'RE PEOPLE!
@@nickolasnuber9254 😁
I totally agree, her voice were so unique, I loved that sound of her singing, some thing so so special, so sad, she died so young !
Who isn't? God Bless!
One of the most soothing voices. Both she and Linda Ronstadt have the ability to relieve stress in such a calming way.
You really shouldn't compare those two. Linda's tone became "brassy" when singing in her upper range. This could be compared to the blaring of a trumpet 🎺 played too loudly.
Her voice is high on the list of not just amazing women vocalists, but to me there is another list, of naturally gorgeous artists, male or female. I can never get tired of hearing her voice, or this song. This is sadness that one can sink one's teeth into. Really take a bite and savor it. Once in a lifetime, for me anyway. I've never heard another voice like it. Thanks for honoring and respecting her. Your true love of music and curiosity and playfulness is infectious! Huge hugs to both of you. Thank you!
Karen Carpenter is one of the best femail voices. Still gives me goosebumps. Greetings from the Netherlands. 💕💕💕🎶🎶🎶
Such a beautiful voice and a fantastic drummer as well!! RIP Karen
Beautiful. Love Karen's voice.
God Bless her.
This was written by Paul Williams but it was so fitting for Karen to sing. Her emotions in this can bring you to tears. I always wonder how people don't see that it is about depression.
I always thought that too about this song and some of her other songs that she connected with dealt with her real life and her fighting anorexia and depression
@@jimpierce3138 Richard chose the songs for Carpenters.
Karen was actually into disco....in fact....when she set off to record her solo album, Richard gave his blessing with the sole provisio Karen not record disco.
If you listen to her solo album....she did in fact record some disco....funnily enough, when Richard later released the Carpenters "Lovelines"....he included Karens' disco songs.
@@alfredgeorge317 Richard was actually a controlling dickhead to Karen.
@@celt67 Another moron heard from. It's not true at all.
The Voice Of An Angel...R.I.P. Karen 🙏 ❤
I've always felt that Karen Carpenter had one of the most beautiful, pure voices I have ever heard. Always unforced and effortless. Just incredible.
She was also battling depression D, I've always felt this song was to her brother, "here we go again" she says "we know what it's all about". Another time of the blues.
It’s so fun to share music with each other! Like when we’d bring our discs and later our cassette’s to our friends house! Thanks! The Carpenters are so special! They were an island of peace in a sea of confusion!
I've always thought that Karen Carpenter's singing was a lesson in voice control. I suspect when autotune was invented the baseline was Karen's voice.
On a related note - I remember when she died. I was at a local fair and someone announced it over the intercom. There was a collective gasp in the crowd and the entire fair grounds went quiet for a few seconds. It was a sad day when we lost her.
My apologies but I quote you on your autotune diagnosis on Karen's voice.
I think you are absolutely right about that.
The voice!
Her brother did the arrangements for just about all their songs!
As I have said before... As a teenage Karen played the drums and was excellent at it.
Her brother heard her sing and recognized her talent. He dragged her into singing , kicking and screaming to the microphone. She hated it but did it for her brother
It's purely talent. No auto tune. She was pitch perfect. Her brother was implemental In her fame.
An excellent artist in his own right. Writing lyrics. Writing music and performing. All to advance Karen. He never minded giving the spot light to her.
Pitch perfect, and perfect timing. VERY rare.
The harmonies were all done by Karen & her brother Richard (on piano).
This song always makes me feel that she was singing about her life.
I think we all have rainy days and Monday’s. This song could have been about how she felt but I do think we all have these days. .
Hey guys! Karen sang like an angel. Just beautiful. 😇
This was written by a genius named Paul Williams. There's a doc on him streaming somewhere. Worth a watch
"One Take" Karen. A revelation for all time.
With Your Wife's Love Of The Saxophone,, This ABSOLUTE Classic Is A MUST HEAR,, Junior Walker & The All Stars "What Does It Take"...Trust Me!!
It’s a beautiful song and Karen had a great voice
The most beautiful voice of all time
You both need to react to “Yesterday once more.” That’s one of my favorites from the Carpenters. ❤️ Please n Thank you😀
I think Top of the World is a cool one for her to listen to next time. Great percussions and keyboard play!
Great to bring your wife to listen to the music with you brother ✌ . Music should ALWAYS bring people together ❤
RIP .Karen Carpenter was one of my favorite female artist. She was a GOAT .thx for sharing.
Best female voice ever...no screaming or belting it out...just singing!
Karen loved to play the drums but they rarely let her do it.
This song reminds me of walks with my dad as a little girl... every time I see those "whirly birds" falling from trees, I think of those walks and the Carpenters. My dad feels same, her death hit him hard, he remembers those walks and us singing their songs. ❤ we always sang "Raindrops Keep Fallin on My Head" also, you'd love that one too😉❤✌
♥ her voice!
Karen Carpenter > The most beautiful female singing voice I’ve heard…💖Silky Velvety Silk 💖
Portland Oregon USA 🇺🇸
Probably the best singer I've ever heard...
Brilliant tune! The harmonica gives it a melancholy feel! Karen has a one of a kind voice! No one like her since!
R.I.P. beautiful Karen...you are very missed....
I really wish Karen would have lived to sing with Alyson Krauss. That would have been more than we deserved.
Her voice was like a warm hug that breaks your heart.
The nice thing about the carpenters is they sing their own background tracks
RIP Karen, thank you
Roger Nichols and Paul Williams wrote - RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS
They say a voice like her's comes along once in a generation.
Btw the Background Vocals were Karen & Richard over dubbed like 5 times. This song was written by Paul Williams.
Grew up in the Brooklyn hood. Loved the Carpenters in 70s. Had to keep it a secret. My then girl couldn't believe how her tough guy could like them. Lost her but kept the Carpenters. Add Judy Collins to the list.
Her voice was absolutely flawless !!
Her voice is pure silk
“It’s like she’s not even singing, more like she’s talking.“
Good observation. Only a handful of singers (Karen, Sinatra, etc.) had that ability.
The carpenters do a cover of "Johnny Angel" that is magical.
One of the most iconic voices ever. Brings back such fond memories of my youth because their music was alays on the radio when I was a kid.
My 1st grade teacher had our class sing the Carpenters' "Sing" when the song was on the charts way back then. Love their music.
Karen was just brilliant, it is a shame that she had so many demons. She will never be forgotten because there will always somebody that will discover her and her music.
Anyone who grew up with this will tell you, Karen Carpenter never knew how to sing a bad note in her all too short life. A special talent, whose brother Richard was no slouch either. Nice call on this one Chod.
My 5 favourite female vocalists
1) Karen Carpenter
2) Aretha Franklin
3) Barbara Streisand
4) Ella Fitzgerald
5) Dionne Warwick
1/Karen Carpenter
2/ Shirley Bassey
3/Dusty Springfield
4 Dionne Warwick
I would replace Ella Fitzgerald with Linda Rondstadt
5 is not enough.
Music is like the ocean, it is broad, wide, and deep. Experience it all.
Great reaction you guys! Nice to see your wife there Chod!
One of the greatest songs of the century I hope you both should hear
Is the studio version of Bridge over Trouble Water.
The song is beyond incredible!
Chod I know you reacted to the live version but there's no comparison.
I will always stop whatever I'm doing to listen to Karen Carpenter's voice.
Love y'alls comments keep digging
What a great title for a song RAINY DAYS andMONDAYS and of course a great carpenters hit
Simply the best female singer I've ever heard
you need to watch Olivia Newton - John's tribute to Karen as they were best friends singing "Close to You"
I loved/ love Karen's voice. As a rocker, I wasn't hip on Richard's arrangements. I felt like he held her back from drumming and, in general, doing more uptempo songs. I'm not sure why she allowed him to control their careers. Anyway, Karen moved me, and I believed she had one of the most sensual voices ever. If you get the chance, find the video of her playing multiple drums; it's a hoot and gives insight into her love of music and talent.
They practically INVENTED the power ballad. There's NOTHING wrong with their arrangements, or their careers. Karen was going through something that nobody really understood or knew how to deal with at the time.
Don't think he held her back from drumming. Because she is such an amazing singer, it was suggested that she stand in front and sing rather than hide behind the drums. A bit like what Phil Collins had to do within genesis back in the day. I think Richard is a fantastic arranger/producer in the style of burt bacharach.
As I did more research, I found that Karen's parents, especially her mom, were very controlling, too. Her parents were kind of like Michael Jackson and Brian Wilson's parents. Her mom especially held sway over both of them. While Richard was in rehab for a drug addiction to downers, Karen wanted to do a solo LP to hopefully boost their waning popularity due to Richard's inability to adapt and alter their type of music. He was not happy, and when her LP was complete, he refused to release it for many years. All of these people loved each other, but they all got caught up in a business that can be vicious. Richard was her big brother and should have helped her reach the musical career that she wanted, even it it meant giving up his career for her. Just my opinion mind you. Karen deserved more love and support from her brother and her parents. Especially her mom.
This song was written by Paul Williams and Roger Nichols. Richard Carpenter wrote a significant amount of the music The Carpenters did, but usually got someone else to collaborate on the lyrics. Of course, he also used songs written by others. Paul Williams was one of his favorite collaborators.
One of Paul's most well known songs is "(Just an) Old Fashioned Love Song" which was a hit single for Three Dog Night. Paul's own version of the song was never released as a single, but got significant air time from the album it was released on, partly thanks to people knowing the Three Dog Night version. He also famously performed it on "The Muppet Show."
Thank you. I love this song.
Many of her songs were written by Paul Williams
Was going to comment this. One of the best of all time
The voice of an angel.
The vocal harmonies are all Karen and her brother Richard and the lyrics were written by Paul Williams who wrote a bunch of songs for other artists back in that time.
The legendary Hal Blaine on drums. 🥁
Hello Chod & Dee, here's another great female artist, I think Dee would like to here "Helen Reddy - I Am Woman (1971)" Karen U R Missed 💔
If she was still alive, she would get standing ovations!
Words can't hardly describe. Such a beautiful voice. Most beautiful song. Brings tears to my eyes. Always loved The Carpenters.
Best female voice ever.
I love your videos... its comforting to see folks enjoy the music I grew up with. In 6th grade I had a very progressive music teacher who had the class the carpenters and carol king songs. Thank you!
I would play their GREATEST HITS album for both my children while in the womb and out because it would make them so calm and happy.
"Baker Street" is the song that returned the sax to popular music, so that's what your girl needs to hear.
Superstar is a great song by them.
KAREN the voice of an angel. we miss you
Love Karen Carpenter and the sax in this song albeit brief started a fascination in me for the instrument.
I'm really enjoying this journey you two are taking us on. My life your history lest we forget. Thanks
This Classic Is Perfect For You My Music Lovin Brother,, A MUST SEE & HEAR,, Herbie Hancock "Rockit" (Official Music Video A MUST)
Rainy days and Mondays is a metaphor.
I appreciate reviews from musicians...you have insights us mere mortals lack...
That's her brother playing the keyboards, singing background, and he writes most of their songs!
Really neat idea to bring in Dee? D?. One thing she said hit me because I've heard other people say the same thing. It was about how Karen sang so effortlessly it was like she was speaking, not singing. Really good idea. Enjoyed it a LOT.
There's a video on CZcams from one of their TV specials with her and her drums. When I saw her in concert in 72 she played them quite a bit.during the show. She was always happiest playing the drums. I noticed you're a drummer and I have a son that's been playing for 30 years. Drum players are the best!
Good 3 songs to introduce Dee to , thanks much! Enjoyed
God bless your wife .
Karen was an accomplished drummer. I would suggest looking up videos of her playing the drums. It shows her pure joy shining through. I would also suggest a video of Karen Carpenter and Ella Fitzgerald it is truly amazing to hear these two legends together.
Her brother Richard who was also in the band wrote 95% of their songs ! He was a very talented song writer ! Richard played the piano !
Check out Cowsills the rain the park and other things...live version! a classic in summer of love
Her voice is so smooth and perfect. This song and we've only just begun for me are what music is to me, stirring up feelings, nostalgia and the combinations of all the instruments. 10,000 maniacs the song like the weather has alot of different instruments, beautiful. It blows me away how someone writes music and songs and combines them into a beautiful piece!
How much music we missed when she passed....
Karen didn't normally write the songs. Her brother Richard, who plays the keys, found some of the songs and arranged them. The backing vocals are by Richard and Karen.
She battled anorexia and depression. She was talking about going to her brother to talk about her depression and such. She really needed support and love.
INCREDIBLE singer from Karen Carpenter (drums too!), so sad she passed away so young. Fabulous singer and ofcourse the band, also her brother Richard, playing the piano. BEAUTIFUL. xxx
Hey Chod Karen Carpenter could also play the drums. She played on some on her own tracks. Peace.
LOOOOVE to see Dee in your videos! Yes, Karen was originally a TREMENDOUSLY shy person, but she pulled it off so beautifully! 😍 I come from a TON of drummers in my family, so it's exciting to see a female hitting the skins!! Hugs, from Mesa, AZ 🌵
If Dee likes the sax - Bob Seger, Turn the Page. Or Quarterflash, Harden My Heart.
RIP Karen! The best of the best. Heavenly😅😊
If angels exist, and they sing, this is what they sound like.
God I love that woman! Can’t wait to get Heaven and see her again. Rumor has it.she’s the choir director.
Your wife is beautiful. You're a very lucky man.
Never mind.😎

Love your choice of music to react to! (Also, please react to Emilylou Harris, "Sweet Dreams". THANK YOU!)
Hey Chod, I am totally with you on your quest for 100K subscribers! It always mystifies me how there are other music video reactors out there with far more subscribers than you who are not even half as good at it! With or without Dee on the channel you can always count on my support!
