Recently became homeless living in a car, I felt so alone but this video helped so much
I’m so glad that it helped you! Blessings to you
@@elizabethoffgrid Thank you, same to you, stay safe
@@sierrajacobs3219
Hey, it will be alright friend - things will get better, your ‘home lite’ not homeless, keep watching videos like this and learn to adapt to your new normal, I love an alternative life too. Feel to reach out 😊❤
Go to Arizona…..it’s easier 👀🇺🇸🕊
Save your money for a studio. This is temporary and your going to learn good critical thinking skills. You will sharpen your problem solving ability and have an adventure. Good luck, I know you can do it. Lots of people find themselves in your same situation these days. It's nothing to be embarrassed about. ❤
Great job showing how it really is when u begin living in the car!
Thanks, glad you think so!
Very interesting video,
A pee bucket, any size, would be a huge help.
A 12 volt fridge/freezer pays for itself, quickly, when buying ice.
A small jackery
could be a wonderful wish list item👍
Love your daily observations!
Thanks!
yep..lov that list
If I didn’t have 3 children and a husband this is definitely the sort of life I’d choose. I love my car so much. It’s not fancy but it’s my little space. Sometimes if my family stress me out I go for a drive, park somewhere nice like the sea or next to a nice farm field and just sit there in the peace and quiet. Absolute bliss and I would choose that over going to a party any day.
I hear you! I enjoyed alone time in my car when my son was little :)
Oh my gosh! I thought I was the only one who sits in my car to get away for some peace and quiet. I spend at least 2-3 hours a day in it, lol.
I used to keep a "picnic" bag in my car....lol packed with my ⛱️ beach attire, snacks, wine .... ready for my little escapes from the demanding atmosphere at 🏡 ... 😮
This is exactly me!! I say and do the same exact thing. I have 4 kiddos😊. I am also a teacher on top of being a wife and mother. Sometimes we just need a peaceful break.
I am high functioning Aspergers Syndrome (labeled autism here in the US) so I do understand anxiety, we had our refrigerator in our RV break down, that we have lived in since 2018 and we had to use a cooler, it was a high priced cooler over $100 but it did not keep food safely cool in summer so if you can order one of the mini 12 volt refrigerators, I recommend that for you and we got a solar generator and that helps a lot also, camping in any motor vehicle is not an easy life even an RV, especially when things break down, because they do, no older RV was designed for full time living, they were designed for vacations, cars were designed for travel so that will be an even greater challenge to live in it, best wishes
thank you! yes it is very true that RVs (and of course cars) were not designed for full-time living, so it creates problems
I love all the discoveries you are making. Night routines are so important. Just one safety tip to consider, you said at 33 minutes in that you put the big "junk drawer" bag in your drivers seat when you go to bed. You want to keep your driver seat ABSOLUTELY clear so you can jump into it and get out of town when things get weird. I only car camp on weekends, and things have gotten weird and I was SO thankful I could immediately hop into the drivers seat, snatch the front window cover out and pull out when people started BANGING on my car at 3AM in parking I found on Ioverlander. Stay safe and keep doing great videos! Love you channel!
Yikes about that 3am situation!
"You pick a life where those struggles are the struggles you enjoy"
THIS. This resonated with me so much. I have absolutely hated the life I've been lead to believe I had to live. My sister recently helped me discover that I can make this life whatever I want it to be ❤ Somehow id never been able to see that. Thank you for sharing your journey and inspiring others to follow their dreams too!!! 🙏 Peace be with you!
❤️❤️❤️
Ask the person at the deli counter for condiments. I’ve worked at many grocery stores and they keep mayo, mustard and ketchup packets behind the counter
Wrap your cooler in the reflectix and cut a piece to lay across the top of the ice and shut the lid. I also fold ita towels and lay it on top. MUCH BETTER! Stays ICE. COLD next morning 😃👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Interesting idea to put it inside the cooler! I tried putting in a small throw blanket or a towel to fill up the air space, and that helped too
Thank you for your down-to-earth honesty and openness. Most people can probably relate to these qualities. May the good LORD be with you in your travels. HAPPY TRAILS.
Thank you!
Enjoy the struggles of life. That hit me.

Well, I am glad that I'll have a roof over my head, which is my vehicle so, I don't consider being homeless. My boyfriend brother is selling the house so, I am really glad I have the vehicle. I keep all the doors locked of course, and have my phone, I just need to buy a portable charger to keep everything charged up especially during the night so I am working on fixing up the inside. But there was no way I could sleep with my vehicle being over packed.
You completed 100 subscriber. Congratulations🎉. Nice video. Keep it up 👍🏻.
Thank you so much 😀
I agree, was there for 4 months, I loved it! Don't need all that stuff!
I found you tonight and I'm starting from the beginning. I dream of living in my car for all the empowering and freeing things you've said. You are affirming so many of the things I thought would work best for me. A little weird how much it aligns. Thank you so much for sharing!
Wonderful!
I’ve done this twice now- once when I lived in Hawaii for 8 months and now in Virginia!!! I’m having a blast and traveling while people are at work paying for rent or a mortgage!!!
I'm a disabled Vet gettng ready to start out in a honda pilot soon. I gotta lot of stuff to figure out and this video is a big help so Thank You so much. Gonna need an extra battery and a fan and heater for sure. Think I'm gonna find a place to just camp out and focus on my wildlife photography in my local area for a bit then head out on a big adventure.
Sounds like a great plan! A Honda pilot should be a good vehicle for this
Some people are busy bodies, what ever you do in your vehicle, it's your personal business
Yes, I agree 👍 well when you have to do it, you probably should enjoy the struggles.
So true!
Wow I like your ideas and thoughts on car life ☺️ I can't wait to head out onto my own journey so helpful thank you.
Great I hope your journey goes great!

Thank you and happy trails your way 😊
This was a very interesting video. I like the way you took us through each day. I hope to have a built out van in the near future🤞🏻
Thank you! Best wishes with your plan!
You know as I mentioned those travel centers you can sleep there in your vehicle, you just let them know, and a store to buy food, a place to shower, and get gas. I haven't tried it yet, but I will be back on the road again, I have to get my vehicle repaired so, as soon as I am done, I'm going to re organized so I'm not sleeping in a pile of stuff.
I saw your channel for the first time today. Hope you are recovered from your migraines, now a month later... after you started your life living in your car. I hope all is going well. Everything you've mentioned - your routines, necessities of living and knowing where your things are, etc..are all identifiable even though I do live in a house. You describe situations to a point now I wonder.. yes, it must be so hard to schedule your toilet needs. A lot to figure out, but you have a great outlook about struggles!
Thank you! Yes I am doing better right now :)
Watching this before I leave in two weeks and I relate to you so much. In a much better mindset anxiety wise and with my home aka turtle shell with me.
Good luck with your new adventure in two weeks!
Don't worry, your vehicle looks fine.
Hey! Elizabeth, get a portable power station, to charge your devices, an a apicool fridge for your food, I have both!!!!
Yep I have one!
You have to ask for the packets at safeway. You might want to think about the little mayo packets for your car. You open use and throw packet away. Peanut butter is also good & easy. Also what about protein shakes? I like the Dr. Adkins strawberry. They keep me full, super easy about 2.00 a shake.
Oh at Safeway, at the deli counter they have packets? Makes sense
Thank you for the real info. I am wanting to just do mostly solo trips.
I am currently building out my minivan and documenting my journey on my youtube channel.
Good luck!

Well it takes time, one day at a time
I have viewed tons of videos about car living, came across yr channel, new from Tennessee. I am 63 and preparing to live my Ford Big Bertha, lol .look forward to your journey and maybe u get some tips!
Thanks, I hope it goes great for you!
can you show us your bed setup? and how do you power your CPAP? ✌🏼😊
I will add those to my list!!
Speaking of vitamins, I need to take mine, one every evening. I have been laxed in that area.
Enjoying your channel. I’m captivated by your bravery, your candor and your wisdom in processing through this experience. I don’t know your story yet but I’m loving your video documentation which views like an inspiring, valuable coaching program for brave, practical living. 🙏 ✌️🙏 PS: Migraines are pure hell, I have to retreat from the world so can’t imagine being on the move with one. Stay hydrated!
Thanks for sharing!!
I think it as an adventure. I also feel secure in my vehicle.
Back in 86,87 to 91 I lived in Alice Springs Australia
Thank you so much for this enlightening video 💜 thank god I live in Florida so I’m super close to the beach
On cheap RV Living channel, they tend to go higher in elevation to be cooler. Like Colorado higher country during hot season.
Yep very true, just a few thousand feet up takes away so much heat
The dollar store sells ice for $1.25
Thanks for the tip!
I won't ever rent a storage area ever again, this owner stole all my stuff, clothes, and everything, and it was paid too. I don't trust storage any more.
oh no! that's terrible, sorry to hear that
you are SOO brave !!! cheers from down under :)
Thank you!
Hey Elizabeth you could consider the vegan diet for less acidity in your body and also a way to heal type two diabetes. Many years ago I lost 20 pounds in 30 days with this pH balanced vegan diet. When our body has less acidity from animal products and coffee it can drop extra pounds quickly and then diabetes is not a problem at all. It’s much easier to store tofu, pees, hemp seeds and alternative milks because there’s no fear of them going bad. When I cook vegan food in my Honda Accord it’s not that big of a deal because it’s just vegetables and no splattering meat/cheese. This diet helps me to be even more simple living in my Honda.
There's a good possibility I may move to being vegan -- I was years ago but stopped for various reasons -- but it would be interesting to try it now that I can measure my blood sugar, so I can see what works!
I like to get those salad kits occasionally (in produce section) = quick, easy, tasty, healthy & I can easily anything else to it. 😊
Yes I like those too!
Starkist has these great packet 'bowls' which contain rice, or quinoa, and beans for great protein. Delicious and filling.- no problem with storage!
Thanks for that idea! Are they meant to be put in a microwave or are they eaten room temperature, do you know?
I eat it room temp, like a tuna salad. You can heat but not in pkg, if I remember correctly. But instructions are on the packet. Found with all other tuna products.
Cool! I just saw them at Safeway and bought one - thanks for the suggestion!
Peanut butter and jelly be your best options. Get shelf stable meals. Buy can beef stews etc that if push comes to shove you can eat out of can. If you can find a fan that runs off your cig lighter might be option for you. Put ice cube in spray bottle. Look online for property tax sale in your area to get small plot for yourself. Safe place to park. Give yourself an address. Pick rual no zoning place to buy. Good luck.
Thanks for the ideas!
Unorthodox suggestion. Buy overnight Depends underwear and they hold urine without messiness. You can pull them on and off and they look and feel just like panties. Get a scented trashbag and dispose of them during your morning routine. This can alleviate stress of finding places to pee in the middle of the night.
I could see that being a good solution for an emergency!
I’m seriously considering doing this is as well. I too have a Honda Civic. I’m 59 and wanting to retire early. Tired of paying high rent and utilities. Thinking I could pull it off but I was thinking I’d be more comfortable in a van. However, my car I’d paid off! I’m most concerned how and where I’d sleep. I’m most worried about feeling safe while sleeping. Any advice?
For me the nighttime would be a huge challenge
I would be too freaked out
Yes safety at night is my biggest concern.
I would never be able to sleep sadly
Guess I could travel with a caravan of nomadic car/van or RV folks
For me, here's what I do:
- not arrive to my sleeping place until it is dark
- once I arrive, immediately lock doors, turn off headlights, and cover windows
- do not exit the car once I am parked (I crawl into the back into my bed, once the window coverings are on)
- park under the street light, giving me ambient light in the car and making car less of a target for stealing anything
- know where my keys are (put them in the same place each night) so I can start the car and drive away if needed
It took a bit but I now usually feel comfortable. If I don't, then I leave and find somewhere else to sleep (which sucks to do in the middle of the night but better than not being ok!).
Thank you so much for responding!❤
I'm currently in Colorado and I've lived in my truck 18 years. I generally park at expensive hotels like Holiday Inn in upper-scale parts of town. Hotel lobbies are usually open 24 hours, and they all have restrooms.

LOL undies are an essential
I've seen the collapsable bowls at the dollar store
Ah I didn't realize they had them at the dollar store!
hi! you're so inspiring!
Thank you! :)
Make a p-pot with a Cool Whip container and small plastic bags. Do your thing and throw it in the next trash can you find.
Nothing wrong with keeping cool
❤love and light to you Sunshine
Maybe you could pre-package sets of clothes in plastic bags and press the air out for compact storage. Using a vacuum sealer at your storage unit would be even better
That's a great idea to use a vacuum sealer, would be so helpful for all my clothes and blankets and such! I just bought some bags from amazon so will work on that soon
That’s a good idea!
Ill start grabbing condiment packs. I didnt even think of temps in my cooler.
Yes I now am keeping a pile of them :)
Yeah I gave up on cooking in the car too. And all my spices... Can't even store in storage. Sigh. Still making best of things and loving my freedom.

I was thinking about tying up some type of clothes line for a middle curtain, is that what you have now. That's me, taking naps.
I have window coverings since my bed goes into the front seat area, a curtain didn't seem to be helpful
You know I just thought of the idea, tie up some type of rope or clothes line and go to the thirft store to use as a curtain in the middle for sleeping, and maybe dressing. Good idea.
So many similarities. If you are in the Modesto area reach out. (Don't judge. I definitely did. Moved from Sacramento.) I lived the whole nomad life for 2 years after selling my house. Loved it. Highs and lows for sure. Get an inreach if you can. Federal park pass and CA park pass great purchases. I used the crap out of them 😊
I can see landing somewhere near all the places :) I haven’t got the state park pass yet - it’s so much more money than the federal! Thanks!
Try watching some travelling lite videos on here. Lexi is here in the UK but lived a good few months in her car and will have tips x
Thanks for sharing about Lexi!
I do a little car camping when I'm on adventures. I'm 66, been doing it for probably 8 years, it's getting old but has some amazing benefits like getting up watching sunrise at beach and out and about finding surprises.
Maybe tortillas better than loaf bread, with salad, chickn or tuna, oatmeal instant, gd hot or cold water, & dry instant soups w crackers, just add hot water, watched meals without a kitchen, honey mustard etc don't have to be cold like mayo. May be time to swap 😊
Thanks for the ideas!
I tried car life for 2 wks and it ended with my car breaking down on the side of the freeway on my way home, it sucked! I have been stuck since then because I was also a delivery driver and I have some health issues that make it difficult working a regular 8-5 office/csr job...carpel tunnel in my right hand is pretty bad, type 1 diabetes and a bunch of other issues. I've applied for disability but I'm also attending school so I'm still working on improving my situation. I'm using the leftover from my financial aid to get a van...I'm going to try the minivan thing and doing delivering while waiting on disability because I did apply for whatever it is that you can get and still work some, hoping it all works out. I live with my mom and I really cannot stand it anymore...we are totally opposite and she's just...well, I can't even explain it but she helps me out financially, which has been helpful, she only does it because I'm her daughter and cuz she's a "chrisitian" and won't let me go homeless...while I am totally grateful, we fight all the time and she likes it hot, I like it cold or at least cool....sigh...I can't afford rent anymore, it's sky high so between that and just wanting to travel, I've decided to do this. I also need to get the hell out of phoenix permanently and the plan is to move towards northern cali (despite the politics) and stay on and off with a friend who lives near the more rural/mountainous areas...she said i could park there anytime...she lives on a farm. I'm sick of all the political crap and people being divided...I just want to get into a more normal area...if there are any.
Good luck with everything, I hope it works out for you!
It took me like 3 times applying for disability… it’s part of their process! Helps them to weed out those that are not willing to do the work and give up the first time denied..
Probably better to get a freshly made sandwich/salad at Subway etc. Wishing you all things good!❤😊
Thank you! You too!
Naa. I buy lettuce, avocados, and everything else I need at Walmart and make my own salads in my truck. As for sandwiches though, it's a toss-up.
Hello, I am constantly thinking of different ideas about daily living. I currently live alone in a small efficiency apartment. I do deal with constant depression. I tell myself that my tiny apartment is a blessing compared to people who are completely homeless and they don't have a vehicle.
What's wrong with me I keep telling myself. I've been single and divorced for about 25 years. I know that I'm tired of being alone and no companion in my life. I just don't want to find myself in a relationship that makes me say or feel like, omg, why am I in this crazy relationship. I listened to your concerns on your video. Food can be an issue. Eating out as much as you can might be a solution but only with budget spending on cheap food items that aren't too expensive. Is the weather where you are now living really hot? I would hate living in a vehicle here in San Antonio in the summer time. My vehicle is not a late model vehicle and not a SUV. If my vehicle was a newer SUV, I'd probably try living out of my SUV and moving to an area where the weather is much cooler. Don't worry about what people think because they aren't you and you aren't them. They know nothing about your life or whatever you've been through. I've considered living in a tiny house one day. If you need a friend to talk to, I'm only a click away if that makes any sense. God bless! I'm Louie
Forgot to mention my age, 57. I'm not a young person who doesn't know what I'm really saying or feeling. I've been around and have been through a lot.
Yep it is hot here (not as hot as some places though), and dealing with the heat is hard, especially at night
Have you considered moving to a city or state that is much cooler. Your reply put a smile on my face. I ran a couple of errands today and got caught in the rain when leaving Walmart and walking to my car. The rain felt good, it was such a blessing! I hope your day today was a good blessed day. I too would definitely take advantage of the showers at a gym. I need to lose some weight and some cardio on the treadmill wouldn't be a bad idea. I have diabetes type 2, some of my meds would require refrigeration. A good trusty friend would be a big blessing for you but only someone who is 100% trustworthy. It would be a big blessing for you if you lived in a city that is much cooler where a sweater or a nice cozy blanket would keep you very comfortable. Have you ever been to San Antonio, Texas? It gets insanely hot out here. Thanks to God, my apartment is always nice and cool. Take care and God bless! Hope to hear from you again.
Louie M.
Im curious if there is any kind of latch that would open up the back seat to the trunk? So you could switch sleeping to have feet in the trunk? And access from the inside to the trunk?
In that car, there was a very small opening but not enough to sleep through. Just a little pass though like for skis

Yes it is very hard to let go of stuff

I just buy daily if need be and don't use coolers.
makes sense!
YETI COOLER
Mix rock salt into your ice it will be colder longer

@@elizabethoffgrid Did you, buy your little mate, the koala in Australia.
Did you take out your passenger seat and the center console?
I took out the passenger seat, yes. Not the console -- it was molded plastic to the dash so seemed like too much trouble
You mentioned that you used your CPAP. How exactly did you get to do that? I am getting ready to start living in my van and I need a CPAP. It was one of my concerns
I did a video about it! czcams.com/video/mOpOrGvoCIg/video.html :)
I really want to move into my car. I’m just scared to take that first step.
Yes it is a lot! Good idea is to just try it out for a few days
I’ve heard on other CZcams channels that you’re supposed to actually cool your cooler before starting to use it.
Agreed, that is what I used to to when I went car camping (but was still living in an apartment, so I could pre-cool it there)
Hope you feel better
thank you!
It seems like heat is a big problem
Yep during the summer it was!
I have to sell the house My parents bought in 1956 and I'm heartbroken 💔 I live in CA and this place is really starting to SUCK, so I've been thinking of doing this for several years. Problem will be the elderly dog and a cat!!
Can't take them to a library 😂 I have a 2001 Civic with 96,000. Do you shower at a gym??
Mail is also an issue....
And, what about a Jackery power station and a small plug in fridge??
Sorry to hear about your house! Yep I shower at the gym. Mail at my son’s apt. I do have a power station
I’m about to be. Scared, leaving everything.. my fur babies.. everything I held dear. But I can’t take it anymore. He won. I have given up Everything.
Blessings to you, I hope you find a good situation for yourself
I LIKE YOU!! I think the same as you. I choose to live in my car too. I have 2 storage units. I love driving! See the views
Right on!
Can you talk more about what battery power source You used to make coffee and a meal. I do have a home but I'm worried about when we lose electricity. I want to be able to make coffee at least thanks.
For cooking I have an EcoFlow Delta 2 1024Wh LiFePO4 Battery, Fast Charging - amzn.to/3qBF3Sl (affiliate link). I do like it, a good balance of not being too heavy with having a lot of power and really fast charging. It works great for cooking, which requires a fair amount of watts.
Dear how do you run your CPap machine at night all night from your car?
I have a travel cpap and a power station battery
How do you keep your car cool or warm without running your car 24/7?
Well I’m in California so many times it’s 65-85F and I am fine. If it is colder I just use blankets. If it is warmer, I go to a library or some other air conditioned place
Did you ever consider buying a trailer?
I thought about it. I'd also need to get a new vehicle to pull it, so there's that. And I have traveled with another person pulling a trailer, and I didn't want to start out with that hassle. But I might do that someday
A she wee might help in some circumstances. Maybe.
I got one of those urination devices but I have not had the guts to use it yet :)
They work pretty well. 🙂
Dry ice?
Well it’s in a small car with me so all that carbon dioxide gas would make me nervous
