    In this video I a going to take you through the 3 things that you need to check and fix so you can start getting conversions in Google Ads!
    The first thing you want to check is: Are you targeting the right search terms?
    This is especially important since Google updated the keyword match types for Google Ads.
    The second thing you want to check is: Are your Ads compelling? Do they have a keyword focus, emotional hook and a call to action?
    Then finally you need to use Google Analytics to see what is happening when they get to your website.

    Its so funny to me because so many "Guru's" on the internet claim to have a secret sauce, and to be fair some may have some custom columns developed in ads as well as some other external and 3rd party metrics organized in a specific way, however at the end of the day most of the battles are done at the practical level using a lot of strait forward methods such as this. This video is super strait forward and gonna help a lot of people. I know when I was first starting this would have helped me. Great job my man!

    Hello Aaron,
    Thank you a lot for the video, very informative and gives a different overview on the topic.
    I have a question on the structure of the ad; based on your advice, the copy of the ad should have H1 keyword focus, H2 emotional trigger, H3 call to action. When running a responsive ad, we are advised to add more headlines and not to pin any. Google will then choose which one to show first (sometimes some are not shown at all), which results in not sticking to your suggestion above. What is your view on this? What do you suggest doing? Thank you!

    • @AaronYoungGoogleAds
      @AaronYoungGoogleAds  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Lilla, great question my view is this:
      Because Google cannot complete split testing on your responsive search ads until they get 5,000 impressions in 30 days - you need to complete manual split testing.
      I do not pay too much attention to the ranking that Google gives for RSAs as I have seen "Excellent" Ads provide lower CTR & no conversions and ads that Google ranks as "Average" have higher CTR & conversion rates.
      I talk more about this in this video: czcams.com/video/G1nBF8jljeA/video.html

    Hi Aaron, the bounce rate of my website it's too low, it's just 5%, how can I find what makes this problem☺

  • @nono9555
    @nono9555 Před 2 lety +3

    Hi, since you seem to be quite experienced and there is not alot of content about this on the web, I'd like to hear a second thought about this.
    When using max conv. value or tROAS, googles ai algorythms try to increase revenue of conversions.
    (larger checkout baskets, higher priced items)
    Lets just assume they do pretty good at this for the sake of my scenario.
    ROAS does not say anything about a companys ROI.
    It does not account for fixed costs or margins etc..
    Even if you work with an average margin and apply that to the conv. value, substract ad spend and use it as metric to monitor profit, accuracy still suffers, because different items in your store might have different margins and the average margin might be off.
    Pfofitability is related to overall revenue volume aswell, beacuse of fixed costs.
    So ROAS by itself is really just an indicator for comparing ad performances inside google ads but its not related to the real world.
    Also the tROAS machine learning would not care about this custom metric. It will only maximize ROAS.
    So my idea is to adjust conv. value to represent profit BEFORE it is passed to the tROAS bidding algorithm.
    This way you could use googles machine learning power to actually maximize profit for you.
    (its "ROAS" would then represent profit, not ad spend)
    I wonder if this is something that people in e commerce consider, or if they just use different strategies (only selling item's with high enough and similar margins etc)

    • @AaronYoungGoogleAds
      @AaronYoungGoogleAds  Před 2 lety

      Great question! This is something that I refer too as "Conversion Hierarchy" which is where you edit the conversion values so that you can let Google know which conversion is more valuable to your business.
      This is easy to do for non product sale conversion actions like form enquiries or phone calls. For example if you business gets better quality leads and conversions from phone calls over form enquiries you can set your conversion values as:
      > Phone Calls = $100
      > Form Enquiries = $10
      This then lets the Google algorithm know that you want to target phone calls over form enquiries and they will then target users & searches who are more likely to call (when using a max conv value setting).
      However the issue does arise with eCommerce conversions, because the value is linked to the product price. So what I do is run seperate campaigns & product groups. The benefit of splitting your eCommerce focus products into different campaigns is that you can control the budget at a campaign level, so if you have a low profit product that converts really high you can put that into a seperate campaign so that that product does not take all of the campaign spending because Google's AI keeps targeting product due to the high conversion rates.
      This then leaves budget for you to focus your spending on high profit products that may not convert as well.
      I hope that helps and please let me know if I missed the point of your question.

    • @nono9555
      @nono9555 Před 2 lety +1

      @@AaronYoungGoogleAds Thanks for the elaborate answer.
      Yes. And no.
      I mean specifically the case for ecommerce.
      When the sale happens, I want to calculate it's profit (ignoring ad spend and taxes) in the webshop backend, before it is passed to tagmanager.
      So that when the conversion is reported in google ads, it's "conversion value" automatically represents "profit" not "purchase price".
      When doing that, I could just let the max conversion value or target roas do their thing without having to worry about budget reallocations or any of those things. Google would naturally maximize my conversion "profit" value for me.
      And the "ROAS" in google ads reports would naturally represent my actual ROI (before taxes).
      It's probably not done by many people, but I think it would be alot better than maximizing standard "roas".
      Because standard "roas" really doesnt say anything about profitability, but rather about relative Ad performance.
      ROAS by itself is meaningless for the financial success of the business.

    • @AaronYoungGoogleAds
      @AaronYoungGoogleAds  Před 2 lety

      Hey @@nono9555 sorry for the slow reply on this one - as Google flagged your comment as spam (maybe because we were talking about how to best beat the algorithm 😂)
      This could be done in Datastudio, but you would have to first manually adjust the conversion values in Tag Manager or Analytics.
      Personally, I have not done the above before but what you are saying could work.

    • @AaronYoungGoogleAds
      @AaronYoungGoogleAds  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Shannon, if you are getting clicks but no conversions I would check:
      1. Your search terms (not keyword - see point 1 of this video) and check to see if you are paying for search terms which are not related to your product or service. If so, add them as negative KWs
      2. Check your Google Analytics data. What you want to be looking for is:
      > If you are getting conversions but just not from Google Ads, you then know it is an issue with the targeting of your Google Ads. So in that case test some different landing pages and ad copies. Also make sure that you have your conversion settings set to "linear" or "time decay" so that Google Ads is getting attributed with conversions that may have first clicked on your Google Ads and then finished the sale 1-2 days later.
      > If you are not getting any conversions for any source (ie Google Ads, organic, social) you then know that the issue is not just with Google Ads.
      I hope that helps and please let me know if you have any further questions

      Have you checked the "Call Extension Report" this gives the call duration and you can also add the keyword that triggered the call. So with this report you can then find the keywords that are being used that are ending up in the longest phone calls. It even shows the phone numbers so you can even match the keyword with the quality of the call.
      From there you can then focus your spending on the keywords which are providing the best quality calls.

      @@AaronYoungGoogleAds Thank you! When you get the time and if you have the inclination, would love to watch a video on your rationale for using data driven or time decay.

    Hello, Aaron. I'm in a bit of a pickle. I teach English on a third party website known as Preply. I have no access to the backend of the site to add a tracking code for conversions. So I feel boxed in with no options to optimize for maximize conversions. I need help. Right now I'm running maximize clicks but am afraid I might just be wasting my money.

    H1 -H3 That is very true.. !! BUT, and this is a big BUT!!!! With the new Google Responsive Ads, you have absolutly no control of how your ad is put together. All my conversions has gone down, so what can you do?

      @@AaronYoungGoogleAds Ahh I found the "Pin to possition 1-3" function. That massively improved the autogenereated google text, bringing back control to me. My problem was people tend to click when they have absolutely no idea what the ad is about (Because google autogenerated nonsense)
      Thanks for the help 😁😁

    My conversion rate is 2 or 3 per cent... Each 100 clicks in my ad i get 3 subscriptions to my email list... Is it normal?

    Granted I’ve only spent a few hundreds quid on google ads but I get zero phone calls from potential customers. I get people trying to sell me seo packages. My ads guy said I’ll need to wait at least 3 months until I start seeing any results. I need work fast. I have tons of scaffolding ready to erect but hardly any work coming in. Any advice?

    The problem is that there are up to 15 headlines now and they rotate unless you pin them. If you pin them Google automatically lessens your score!
