ray ban adding that bright led really kills the experience for me. i bought these mainly to discreetly record during quiet concerts (filming is allowed) but i don't want to disturb other concert goers. the flashing of the led is so bright in the relatively dark concerts that it's a deal breaker for me. i will try this method to see if it's feasible.. if not, definitely selling these.

I try to avoid touching my glass as much as possible as skin produces a natural oil which might leave noticable streaks on the lens. It's a habit that I just got used to when working with larger cameras and lenses where it is very noticible. Perhaps not so noticeable with tiny lenses like this or cell phones but still concerned it could degrade the image quality.

I have read people have drilled into the led and disabled it but that is a bit risky. I have also read that if you put just a pinhole in the middle of the tape then that is enough to start recording without covering the camera lens.

Based on the principle you discovered, I think 'reflection' is more meaningful than 'obstruction'. A simple experiment, if you tilt a mirror at 45 degrees to block the LED, it won't trigger an alarm when taking a picture. Because the light from the LED is reflected away, and the external light is reflected into the brightness sensor. So, it's likely that placing a small 45-degree reflective mirror in front of the LED can achieve the task. Of course, the other side of the reflective mirror can be blackened.
