From an old tape recording of Jean Langlais speaking (in English) and playing the organ of St. Clotilde, Paris in 1975.

I'm very glad this was uploaded, a nice Christmas present. he plays the Franck chorale beautifully, which is a special pleasure to hear him play Tournemire, which I miss on Langlais' recordings. I hope that there will be more recordings of his master's works.

Thank you for this! Listening as a warm-up for mass on Christmas morning... a very nice present indeed. Langlais just gets me.

This was a recording made during the 1975 Organ Club of Great Britain tour in Paris. There were a number of recordings made at each church visited. I was given a set of the original tapes which I took to the British Library sound archive. They made copies and all the recordings are now on CD for private use and available at the British Library. It is a fascinating set of recordings of the organists at the time who are now mostly dead.

I’m very glad to know this! Mme. Alain died on Tuesday 3 June 1975; Langlais mentions (@32:32) that she died “last week”… so the date of this performance should be sometime between 9-15 June. Do you have any more information about that tour by any chance?!

What other sort of information? All I know was they were due to go to Duruflé’s church but unfortunately it was the year he and his wife had a terrible car accident and couldn’t play. There is another recording on here somewhere of the Organ Club’s visit to Notre Dame on the same tour where Cochereau speaks. There were many other famous organists heard on the tour.

Okay, that’s interesting too. I certainly don’t mean to plague you about it, and am sorry if you feel I have. I was hoping to find out the date of this performance especially, and the others as well if possible; I’m sure the information is out there.
