They closed because DQ corporate wants all DQ locations to serve hot food. The location was too small for hot food prep. So, corporate DQ would not let them open.

Such a cute little building. I love the walk up windows. Dont see old school DQs like this any more. From what you shown, the equipment does not look that old. Now the reason for the 2 power meters are, 1 is for the main building power, and the other meter is for the HVAC heating and air conditioning. Most of these older buildings did not have natural gas so you had to have electric heat, and electric heat uses a lot of electric current so the main meter service was not ample enough so they added a dedicated electric service just for the heating and air. The 2 meters on this dq are just basic Itron Centron meters. I have many in my collection. I love the fact you bowl on AMF lanes. AMF pinsetters are the best in the business. Now Brunswick pinsetters are junk. I have worked on many. Dont like Brunswick at all. Great video.

The McD's where I used to work is that same type of building. It used to have an outdoor play place, but they took it out, expanded the front end and installed a huge indoor play place. I'll have to get a picture of it.

There is a very small DQ in Jackson Center (a tiny little town in Mercer County, PA) that actually has a Brazier in it! Also I enjoyed seeing the old school aesthetics McDonald’s. They renovated the one in my town to look like a “Starbucks,” too. And the Pizza Hut in my town is still a dine-in with a weekday lunch buffet and as well as Tuesday/Wednesday night buffets.

All of ours at Colorado Springs save one we’re converted to grey or dark grey boxes that were not as brightly lit as before. The one exception was one that had been remodeled on the outside to a 50’s-60’s era appearance on the outside (the inside had been remodeled again in late 2019 and was due to reopen inside when the COVID hit, it finally has allowed inside dining in the last few weeks).

I 100% agree with you on the Pizza Hut restaurants. I enjoyed going there because they also had a salad bar that you could get with the pizza buffet .Now I think they're way overpriced and under fed. compared to what they used to be.
Remember when Wendy's had a salad bar .. it was fantastic one of the best salad bars. You would think with healthier eating today all these restaurants would be bringing back the salad bars but they seem to all gone by the wayside, that's really ashame too.
Keep up the great videos and love you love for the older vintage styles.

👍 I think many companies learned from Pizza Hut that brand-franchised unique buildings are hard to resell and harder to modify without spending a bundle. To this day, I see chiropractor offices, donut shops, nail salons, etc. in former Pizza Hut Buildings and you Just Know what used to be there . . . and that they sadly went out of business.
In my area too they are building replacements of former eateries in the said grey boxes. They can just take the old signage down and slap a new sign up and call it Done if they want. I don't even think people WallieB26's age or younger could pick out an old Pizza Hut Store . . . just like tape decks or albums for some.

yesterday i saw out a Hardee's window an abandoned old school BP with the BP logo and Welcome sign still painted on the canopy. Didn't see if the sign by the road was stripped. most likely not since most of them are left untouched unless turned into something else. It looked like it could of been open but i need of a new coat of paint like some of the unrenavated 2000 BP's with the newer green sunflower logo. I believe it had an auto center instead of a convenience store although i could be confusing it with one i found on google maps.

I have a Dairy Queen near me that still has the promotional "Brazier Burger" sign up! And its still open! Plus i believe this is the oldest design you can find for the "Brazier Burger" sign. The inside still has that 1970s style walls, booths, and overall feel.
The roof is a pretty faded though, and the letters for the address are falling off, but the sign is still in pretty good shape.
Heres the place if you are interested : www.google.com/maps/@39.3395086,-82.1038351,3a,81.2y,321.3h,90.41t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s6pq3khrdL9HsgZoZdtA-QQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
Edit: just to say the reason this is such a big deal for me is because all the DQs serve hot food, but back in the 1960s/1970s, most of them served cold foods, and the Brazier Burger promo was to let people know that they served hot foods, so now the sign is pretty much pointless, and now becoming harder and harder to find these old promotional signs, especially these older styles of signs.

You LOVE Kit Kat blizzards too? I do too! My favorite candy bar. I heard it, my mouth opened and wish I didn't have to take a bus to my Dairy Queen. Surprised they shut it down and didn't reopen it. Sorry you could not get your blizzard. Though it's nice to have an independent ice cream dealer in the area.
I'm BIG on astetics too and use your praise "Starbucks shoe box" when describing the lack of originality in building. Why do they have to change these places. People are still going to go there, and they look brighter with the old designs from the 70s, 80s and 90s. The new design quick serve food places look dark and depressing. If it's making money, leave them alone.
I would think a buffet would add more customers to Pizza Hut. Even more upsetting is taking the beer away because it pairs so well with a good pizza. (showing my food snob side.)
And thanks for making me hungry for Kit Kat Blizzards, Arbys and thirsty for Beer!!!! :)

Spot on take on the classic aesthetics these chains once had. Now they look like they're designed by the same guy and just given different color schemes. There's a new Taco Bell in my town and nothing about the building gives off Mexican food or southwest vibes. idk maybe its not as important as it was in the 80s and 90s to have buildings that stood out. Wendy's went a step further with their generic logo that looks like it was made on Microsoft Paint for Windows '98 in 2 seconds.

I agree, the modern McDonald's restaurants are so bland. Nice to see an old-school one

Dairy Queen the best. I would always get the sundae’s.

Those McDonalds and Pizza Huts are much more common over here in the Pacific Northwest

We had a very unique McDonald’s near me. It was built in 1981 and sadly, it was just rebuilt a mouth ago. :-(

Every single building seems to be made from the same cookie-cutter mold anymore. I actually get confused as to what store is what sometimes. I also miss the small ice cream only Dairy Queens, they really had character to them. We live in such a sterile, bland present day.

For example if they're going to reopen that Dairy Queen for example they would have to do a thorough cleaning before they would reopen that if they were going to reopen that store

Pizza hut sucks anyway. My first job was there. Ever since I stopped working there I've never looked back. My childhood McDonald's, Burger King AND Taco Bell (along with Wendy's and KFC) still have the retro look. I'm kind of surprised to be honest but I'm happy

Even Chuck E. Cheese is starting to get a Starbucks type look now for 2.0 (not a lot of locations though).

Hmm I’m guessing it’s financial issues. Such an interesting building to see.

There is a Dine in Pizza Hut up the road from me, and another one a little bit farther away.

yeah I only have 1 DQ around me and it's a grill and chill and all of my pizza huts dine in closed except for 1 and my MD is old like that one

My cousin is a manager at the McDonalds one day I dropped her off and looked around the DQ and no signage remained. I am not from the area and thought it might have been the previous location of the ice cream shop across the street
