  • Past Wyedean Rally winner Dave Jenkins talks about the Mk2 Ford Escort, made from 1975 to 1980, and its enduring legacy in rallying.
    The video coincides with the first Escort Dave Jenkins Motorsport has built, which took a humble one-time economy car and turned it into a performance machine with a price tag of more than £100,000.
    Filmed and edited by Nial Anderson.

    I miss my Esky. Used to drive it like that everywhere. The guys at the tyre shop were impressed at how quickly I destroyed tyres. That was a stock 2lt 76. Went thru stuff that 4wds wouldn't tackle. FUN, FUN, FUN. Scared the crap out of countless people and they loved it!

    Miss those days.With limited resources here in the Philippines -and not having much money- ARGH! the Ford Escort seems to fit 'the bill' and is still competitive.Though can only dream of BDAs and run Kents instead,it's the handling that's so enjoyable even straight from the box.

    Absolutely brilliant! I spoke to Dave briefly at the Race Retro Historic Motorsport Show at Stonleigh in February. He had taken the red Escort to show on a stand and the crowds were around it all day. Superb fabrication and an excellent finish which proves, you don't have to have big glossy offices with leather sofas and shiney websites to produce quality cars.

    You can now buy brand new MKII shells. I think they cost about 7000 Euro. It was and still is an iconic car. Would love to have a fast road specced car with about 200hp. My father had a 1978 Mexico with 2.1 pinto and I still dream about it but it's long gone😐

    The Escort Mk1&2 is much loved cuz it's the simplest among the wrc title holders.Crossjoints,not CV joints.no turbos,no complex 4wd systems yet etc.

    u can buy a used 1 for anything from 6000 euro to 10000 euro, used in, in ireland. i have 3 and 2 for spares. i do most mechanical work my self as im a mechanic. just look up donedeal.ie and select rally cars. all the big builders had them to use up their cash and now they cant afford to keep them! i bought a mk11 3 years ago that a builder had spent 45k on. he couldnt pay the garage the 14 k that was owed, so i paid the 14 k and spent 3600 finishing the project. that is some machine now!

    @boatdude12 Underbody coating =) I'm not joking, it's as easy as that. You can google around for it, one of the bigger brands are Tectyl. It's a thick rubbery substance, sprayed on.

      Capri Driver yea I was quite amazed how a 60's chamber in piston 4-banger powerplant could be modded to the point where it becomes a 8k-10k rpm screamer. I understand the original crossflow kent was a rev happy motor to start with but for it to compete with modern 4valve per cylinder engines is mind blowing as far as I'm concerned.

    as a mater of fact, the uk are buying up shells because they didnt rot as much in ireland and their also buying the rally prep escorts and rebuilding them as their cheaper in ireland. if this is any help to u.

      @bobbythompson3544 Před 6 lety

      5000stroke Every car rotted in Ireland, salted roads in winter, rain all summer, who told you that story, most shells are coming out of Australia and New Zealand!

  • @5000stroke
    @5000stroke Před 11 lety

    u want to see the new 2.7 millington, by god, that lady can float! not to 4get the john reid, he is begining to pass out millington with bph and torque on lower rpm which is needed on fast stages with a lot of 4s and 5s. im running 1600s and 2000s, but i could never afford to try millington. and if i was going into that spec, i think that i would go reid.

  • @americansarebeggersamerica6895

    here, dont be talking SHIT! when some 1 comes in with an open check, its awfal eazy to build a new mk11, their so simple with all the body work and new pannels so available now, shur u can buy brand new shells now, order a new engine from millington or john read with all acessories to fit, clutch atlas axle or semi floating or what ever customor wants! try building them on a budget and expected to beat urs in a rally, thats a different story, where u build gearboxes, engines, axles ectra on site and not ordering them in, template and fabracate floor pans inner wings sills ect...
