I’ve seen many tutorials but yours honestly is the one that I find easy to remember and gives me the confidence to do this one!
That's it, she has explained it in a way that instills confidence that it can be done. You said it right
I'm going to ask my mom to make this cause she's a tailor and these types of skirts are usually not worn in my country, so I'll give it a try :)

ok I have a MAJOR tip: at 4:51 when sewing down your pleats sew them down on the side that is going to be seen!! I made the mistake of sewing the pleats down on the wrong side of the fabric and had to redo them :( hope this helps anyone tho!
omg I DID THE SAME!!!!!!!!! my back nearly collapsed after slouching over to undo all the stitches afterwards lol
I sewed the whole pleat down ;-;
wish I saw this earlier because I had done the same thing :/ at least it was on the practice version
wait i’m so confused 😕
something about your endearing scottish-ness made me really surprised when you said “make these pleats your bitch”

IM SO LONELY
Im so single
You called me lonley in 100 different ways
i'm in the process of making this right now, so i was thinking i'd give you guys some tips for the stuff i ran into!
- you DEFINITELY need 3x your waist in fabric (i had a 2 60-inch pieces of fabric and i needed 90, and debated only using 60. i ended up using 90 bc ~instructions~ and sewed the 2 pieces together. the skirt is perfect waist rn)
- i don't have those cute little clips to clip the pleats so i used tiny binder clips (although pins work fine too)
- make sure to realllly iron down the pleats when they're done (i used steam to make sure they were flat). this both makes it easier to work with later (like creases on paper) and makes the pleats noticeable and crisp when the skirt is done. i was also debating skipping this but its essential
- when done sewing the pleats, sew a long line at the very top to clip down all the loose pleats in the inside of the skirt. this'll make it easier to work with
i just finished sewing the pleats, and will come back whenever i have something to add! hope these help :)
Anything to add? Im going to try and make this today :)
hi can I know what type of fabric you used?
@@urbestievickie3198 i dont know if you asked me, but i made a few and used regular cotton and polished cotton. i made mostly plaid skirts which was very easy cause it had the lines printed on the fabric for me to follow and cut :)
what fabric did you use? do you think i could use 100% cotton even though it's a little see through?
@@urbestievickie3198 I’m using a twill fabric since it holds down pleats very nicely!! And keeps shape you can also use linen or a denim :)
ITS ALL THE GIRLS WITH THE ACCENTS WHO HAVE THE BEST AESTHETICS AND ARE TALENTED
this was the best tutorial i've seen on pleated skirts, you explain things so well!!! keep it up :)
btw, do you think i could do this without a sewing machine? i dont have one yet and im sewing everything by hand
Thank you!! It can be done by hand, but would take a very long time! I’d say probably best to hold off until you have access to one, but if you’re super keen to do it by hand, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work x

Thats literally the best sewing tutorial for a pleated skirt I've ever seen!! So easy to understand!
Hello Laura
Me to random items in my room that have even an inch of fabric: your time has come, you now serve a purpose
I'm making it right now, I'll use it for school tomorrow, I CAN'T find my size (I'm plus size) in ANY store so I'll make it myself >:v
Did you ever finish it? I’m plus size as well and all the stores that sell pleat skirts only have small sizes/they lift too high up in the back! :( I’d like to know how it came out if it did work though!
@@corpsemink8621 I made it in two afternoons and a month ago I made another one with a thicker material, and they came out amazing, I put the zipper only untill just below the wrist band and in the wrist band a clip (you can use velcro too) so that it doesn't look too tight. I also added pockets but that's a personal thing lol, it's worth the try and it looks really cute ❤️
@@mj85432 what length did you cut the fabric at and what length is it at now? Since I want mine to be fourteen inches on me unless that’s too short (I’m 4’11)
I made it!! It took me about a day and it was pretty fun, your tutorial is really easy to understand and my skirt came out super cute! Thank you so much! 💞
it’s lovely to see another scottish gal with a similar aesthetic to me. this was so helpful and i can’t wait to start on this! x
This just gave me flashbacks to my school uniform bc omg the shape is EXACTLY the same just mine are so much longer and 10x uglier :/
I have a uniform too... oh, the pain. Does it have to be a certain length? If not, you can always tailor it/get it tailored :)
@@sketchingstudio5552 ours have to be knee length :(( most have them above but there's only a certain height u can have them before u get caught lol
I like the length. It's not that "sorry I can't be nice and pick up your pencil rn"-length
I'm a femboy who can't get clothes without my parents knowing. If I take up sewing as a hobby I could possibly convince my parents to get the fabric to make this and say it's because it's a simpler thing to start with
This is gonna be really useful
Thanks
Same!!!!!
its better to sew a skirt than to actually buy it
and its cheaper
I’ve made like 3 of these for me and 2 friends omg i’m in love
This is like a school skirt , only its made with fabric that won't kill you in the summer
Just hearing you talk makes me smile!! You have such a good vibe!!
update! made the skirt! it fits well and looks so cool! thank you so much for the tutorial!
I usually get shy when wearing a skirt but this skirt is so cute that I actually made it and wore it in public, thanks! 🦋🧡
I wasn't planning on making a tennis skirt but the vibes are immaculate so I'm going to the fabric store:)
ikr! i’m supposed to be studying this weekend but it looks like i’ll be going to spotlight instead
what fabric do you get
Amazing tutorial! I used 1 metre of fabric, halved the pattern, and made identical front and back pieces so that I would end up with less waste. It worked perfectly! I’m so happy with how this skirt turned out, thank you for such clear instructions!
I just love it when people ask me where i get my clothes from, only for me to say that I sewed them myself!😭✨
I finally found a tutorial that explains everything! Gonna try this as soon as I get my portable sewing machine. Thank you for this detailed tutorial! ❤️
I've tried so many times without instructions to make something like this, but having watched this it makes so much sense and I've started making it! It looks great so far! I would live more videos like this 💕
Hello Kat
i am in love with this tutorial i am making it straightway thank you for this elaborated video literally loved the way u explained
I love your smart sense of humor! :)
Your explanations with visuals were completely clear to me. Then you apologized for it being confusing! This video seems meticulously put together and it shows.
Recently gave up on thrifting cute preppy skirts that fit and are good quality. This vid came up first and it’s perfect. Thanks!
you’re so adorable wow my heart
This was so clear, fun, and helpful!!
Just made this out of a thick tartan for the autumn vibes and I absolutely love it!
This is the first time I've made something without a pattern, and it actually turned out really good!! Your instructions were really easy to follow!
FIRST OF ALL, this was amazing!! SECOND OF ALL, I am a sucker for your accent! I absolutely love it!
Omg I wanted to wear one of this skirts for my Harry styles' concert and now I'm going to make it myself, thank you!!
The way you explained the pleats make soooo much sense!
Nothing better than a white pleated skirt! Thank you for sharing.
That's it. I have decided. Decided that you will be my guide into learning the ways of the stitches. I've been wanting to learn how to sew because my grandparents were professional clothes makers and I feel ashamed that I don't know how to do it when it is in my blood to be a clothes maker too. Your videos are funny and simple enough so I will stick with you from now on lmao!
P.S.
Please do a video on how to sew a pleated, bell pants, too. Thank you. ❤️
This was honestly so helpful and thorough 💕
Thank you! it really works. My daughter and I did one tennis skirt in one weekend . She has 12 years old and did all the sewing . It was a fun and fruitful weekend . thank you
Finally a clear tutorial on how to make these skirts! I was so confused before but now I'm confident to make one. Thank you!!! ♥
FINALLY! A good Scottish you tuber! (I’m from Scotland and there aren’t many good Scottish ones lol)And THRIFT FLIPS?! Just found the perfect channel!
As a fellow seamstress I tend to get super annoyed when people dont calculate the difference between the waist and hip and adjust the pleats acrodingly... so this made me EXTRA happy!
(What I mean is that most only sew the pleats at the waist, but it still makes the pleats open when the skirt is worn! And if they sew the pleats down, they miss the step of making room for the hips, and re-pressing the pleats before sewing them down, which usually results in the skirt not fitting at all!)
In conclusion: well explained, with that perfect hint of humor and sewing frustration. But without missing all the important steps to creating a nice, clean, finished look. 👌
Best tutorial for tennis skirt!
Looks stunning 🤩
wait...your so talented! ❤️
This is going to be my first project! I can’t wait :>

Amazing!! I’m so glad you followed along with the video :)
This is a great tutorial! I’m thinking of making it in like a blue plaid, I’m excited!
Blue plaid would look so cute!!
Till now it was the best video for tennis skirt! ❤️
Wow this skirt is ssoooo beautiful
I made a little template (of one pleat) with paper, at the length of the pleats with little notches at the folds of the template to dot the fabric with chalk. Then fold the pleats and pin with the hip room in mind
This is a great tutorial! I'm going to make this for my husband's daughter. I can't seem to follow what you're doing for the waist band after you overlock the edges. You sew right sides together, but where is the seam placement? Then you fold over again?
Also, please keep making sewing tutorials. You're so down to earth and you make sewing approachable for newbies like me!
This is AMAZING, and I’m totally attempting it. Thanks for the tutorial!❤
This is litteraly the best explained video ive seen . Planing on making one for a doll

I LOVE IT!! The way you explain everything, it was so clear!!
this is sooo cute! I am attempting to make and wondering what length you cut the fabric from the waist part down? The length looks perfect just wanted to know for reference :)
The length I cut is 16” from the waist down! And I’m 5’5 for reference of height :) all the best for your skirt! x
how much fabric in yards do you need? i'm new to buying fabric and i'm not sure what size to get for this skirt ! and how wide should it be?
I would get around 2-3 yards of fabric, depending on how long you want your skirt to be and how wide your waist measurement is x
@@VintageThirsty ty
Just for anyone seeing this just now, you’re better off getting 3 yards (2.7 meters). I have a 34 waist and only bought 2 yards, which was like 10 inches off. You’ll have a ton of extra fabric but it’s better than nothing.
@@mel_ty9500 how many pleats did you do I have the same waist size and struggling to find the perfect amount
@@donutkiller8004 I did 20 pleats in total, I still needed to add extra fabric cause I didn’t get enough.
