Level Up Your Frozen Perogies | How to Make Your Frozen Perogies Taste Better

  • Growing up in the cold prairies in Western Canada, the smell and taste of delicious perogies (or pierogis) was never too far away. Whether it be at family gatherings, Thanksgiving, Easter or Christmas, perogies never failed to be served. But for some reason, the perogies always seemed to be soggy and a forgettable side dish. I always felt that this holiday classic had the potential to be something more. Today, let me show you my way of levelling up this classic side dish to the main attraction of the meal.
    ***************************************************************************
    Perogies My Way Ingredients
    - Olive oil
    - Butter
    - Frozen perogies (cheese flavour)
    - Fully cooked - Farmer’s sausage/Kielbasa/Polish Sausage/Kransy/Smokies/Smoked Sausage
    - Yellow onion
    - Green onion
    - Sour cream for topping

Honestly i've never found it needed to boil them, and a wet food it harder to fry to crisp. I just add a little (not a ton, but cover the whole pan) with oil and/or butter, add frozen pierogies flat side down, cook until browned well, flip, add onions (I save half onions for fresh or barely fried, trust me try it out) and meat (if needed. if the meat needs to be thoroughly cooked like ground beef, i add at start or even before start), let them brown, add salt+pepper (and whatever u want, hot sauce but not super hot is great) and maybe a little butter, let them cool a little, serve

Pierogies and kielbasa is a match made in heaven. Don't forget the sour cream of course.

Mashed potatoes, fried onion, fried, diced fried bacon, fried sauerkraut, pepper and salt. Bloody amazing flavour.

Sorry for the question, but are you talking about sides? Or all mixed together? I got confused on the mashed potatoes part, ‘cause I thought that’s what the pierogies are made of. I really want to try your recommendations but not sure how to prepare the ingredients. Thank you so much! 💕

Skip the par boiling part. I let them defrost first and then pan fry in olive oil mixed with a little butter. Add some sweet onion, salt, pepper and cayenne.

Ive watched a LOT of the frozen pierogi prep videos on CZcams and this is definitely the best one so far.
Thank you so much! The parboiling is important to keep the cheap frozen pierogi from becoming a hard & inedible mess, as happened when I used the saute instructions suggested on the box.
The only things I added to your recipe are a couple spoonfuls of applesauce and a couple spoonfuls of fresh sauerkraut on the side to provide that last lift of flavor and texture with this dish. Thats how my Polish grandma used to eat them!
All the best from Buffalo, NY - US home of Dyngus Day.

Thank you so much for your comment, and for your support of my channel. I really appreciate you describing how you made the dish. Polish recipes are very common where I grew up, and I’ve enjoyed sharing these recipes on my channel. I have recently uploaded a recipe on cabbage rolls, which is a perfect pairing with pierogies, especially around thanksgiving, Christmas and at potlucks! :)

I'm trying this tonight. I always just thaw the rogis with warm running water then when I Sautee them they stick real bad, even with copious amount of butter and olive oil.

Keep the sour cream on the side this way you can control how much sour cream is on each bite.
