1 - The 2.4JTD is NOT a Alfa engine, its a FIAT engine.
I suggest you run like you are running from the devil!!!
2 - And its not because its a bad engine, its because its a very LARGE and HEAVY engine, and all Alfas are very low stance cars, and it has given nothing but trouble on every single Alfa-Romeo equipped with them because of this.
3 - Pot holes? Road bumps? Get used to replace cracked oil sumps, its a life style with these engines on Alfas.
4 - Front struts? Yeah, you better check them every 6 months or so. The damn engines are so heavy they damage them quickly with regular use.
5 - Need a timing belt change? Get ready for a surprise when it's time to pay the mechanic. Its a full engine removal operation. the engine is so large there is no other way around it.
Truly, as far as engine usage goes, this isn't a bad engine, its fairly smooth, and has plenty of torque, but it has far too many downsides when used on Alfas.
You want a Diesel Alfa Romeo, stick to the 1.9JTD. Yes its also a FIAT engine, as are all JTDs.
No, it doesn't matter, it's actually a reliable engine, as good as anything else is the same category.
And as far as Alfa-Romeo as a brand goes, just do yourselves a favor and don't get anything below the 159. I know they are beautiful cars, but they are endless money pits as it is already, so don't make your lives worse.
*sigh* I do miss my old Alfa-Romeo 33 quadrifoglio...

I've had my Brera for four years and its cost me approximately £500 for 'mechanical work'. It's been an absolute dream to run...
On the other hand, £50 for a wiper blade isnt so good...

I drove it and feeling was terrible. Brerra is like brick on the wheels. Sad that Alfa Romeo cant figure out much better handling with this car. Handling combined with its power is dangerous! Cant imagine this car whit even more power - off road in first few km. Design is 10/10 Handling 3/10

      Agree.

GT prettier from every angle but front on...and its close anyway.
If you drop it 25mm its every bit as pretty especially with 18 alloys
( Blacklines or jet fins )
The Busso is worth the entrance fee alone and the 3.2 in the brera is no substitute for it.
The brera is also very heavy and no handler...

have to say the Busso elevates any car within which it resides, I had a 916 GTV 3.0 and loved it! would have another in a heartbeat ( in Fact will have another when space allows) I don't rate the Brera at all from a drivers perspective, but admit it looks beautiful, nearly bought a prodrive 3.2 recently but even with prodrive having tweaked the chassis there is no getting away from the weight of the thing.
Also love the 147 and 156 GTA's which the 3.2 GT is really in all but name.

If you look up the word "mediocre" in the Oxford dictionary, you will see a picture of a Brera. Just as with people, someone can look good but if once they open their mouth, all that comes out is dribble, you walk away and look elsewhere. The Brera is overweight, overpriced and under powered.
