Arguement is fine and all but the characters don’t look Japanese in the show. how is the show showing what current day japan looks like?
hi it may not be? And that’s okay👍🏻👌🏻
In my opinion: yes, there should be more diverse characters. I don't want to put pressure on Horikoshi to make more diverse MAIN characters, as some of their designs may be harder to depict. However, I feel a slightly more diverse background cast or group of temporary characters that appear from time to time would be neat and a fun little instalment.
As much as I appreciate diversity in characters, but that sound sort of shallow for a person to relate to a character by skin, gender or sexuality rather than for what that character brings into the show.
But there are black people in Hogwarts
Every time I see a black character I can't help but smile.
i always thinking that this guy looks like Static Shock (DC)
Yep
Raigou what is that supposed to mean lmao
have you seen fire force
@@arti_st yeah. No fat lips and nappy hair. This anime had a black dude with waves and he wore one of the hashira outfits from demon slayer. Dude controlled wind and was hard as hell. Can’t remember what show it was
I'm completely fine with there not being many black characters in anime after all there's not many black people in Japan however I appreciate it when someone makes a black character who doesn't look like a Jim crow cartoon and actually tries to give them a character beyond stereotypes.
So I really appreciate Horikoshi making a black character who looks like a normal person lol, many anime lately have been following this trend so it's pretty cool.
Some examples being some naruto characters and a character in attack on titan.
this. dbz is s example who do that bullshit.
I don't really care about any races in anime, but I do agree with the stereotype part, I mean have you seen the black people in cowboy bebop.
Omar Arteaga Hmm? Those characters look completely normal to me. Though I only looked up their designs. Do they do any stereotypical stuff in the show or something?
@@slothful2039 what about the black guy in episode two, or the three in the episode titled mushroom samba?
Omar Arteaga I could see if he was the only black character but he's not. There are a decent number of black characters in the show with varying appearances and personalities that aren't wholly negative.
His son already looks bored and done with life XD 😂
Hed be best friends with captain celebrities son
As a black kid watching anime, I love to see characters that I can relate too. As soon as I saw Rock Lock I looked him up because he was the first black character
Same here bro, I made this video for that same reason (I’m black too btw). I’m glad he’s getting so much love since his debut in the anime!!
O so I’m not the only one
HighTopProduction Asians are racist af, i'm surprised they let a black hero on their show.
I'm also glad he's one of the black anime characters that isn't a stereotype.
Yuh
Fun fact: mina’s horns are left over traits from her parents, just like how tokoyami has a bird head but none of the perks like tsu with frogs. Mina’s horns are left overs, but the coloring of her skin and eyes is her bodies way of adjusting to being able to produce and resist its own acid
His bird head isn’t an actual face surprisingly
Definitely adding diversity would benefit MHA. Especially with the “mutant” characters I think needs to be more explored.
Precisely, I think more diverse characters could even help it better appeal to people who don't currently watch any anime
And totally agree, the mutant characters leave so many questions! Like, did Ashido born with pink skin and black eyes? And what was the consequence of that? Stuff like that definitely needs more pagetime
Did anyone notice that he only used flat earths for earth
Edgy Gaming 👀👀👀
😬😬😬👀👀
LLMAO I’m just trolling you
@@TurtleQuirk we all know that lmao 😂
Ostanovit Just like we all know the Earth is actually flat amirite? ...nudge nudge
I just chopped it up to him being an American or African expat who moved to Japan. There are Afro communities in Japan just in very small number.
Edited: may I also add he maybe from the Caribbean, North, South, or Central America. Or anywhere else in the world for that matter. 😒
His real name is Japanese so I assumed he is African-Japanese, but iirc once you become naturalized as a JP citizen don't you have to take a Japanese name?
@@spade4acer could very well be possible that is his origin. Could def see that. Or if he is an expat he could have changed his name once nationalized to better fit in. Like I said, could definitely see your version though
Quintin Smith You do know not all black people have to be american? I’m assuming he’s from a country in Africa and came to work as a hero in japan kind of like how all might is American.
@@fortzprod.8096 if you read my comment you would have seen I included African. I said American OR African. Hell he could very well be from the Caribbean, North, Central, or South America for all we know seeing there a Afro populations throughout all three. And the way you said "you do know etc" is a bit insulting to my intelligence. I am well educated on my diaspora. But if you listen to Rock Lock's voice and word usage he seems pretty American but that could very well be because of localization
@@fortzprod.8096 Yes, but also his first name is Ken, what can be a form of "Kenneth" if we were from U.S
Representations matters, boys and girls from all over the world dream about being a hero and as a black boy I am overjoyed to see this but I hope everyone gets a chance to feel like there’s somebody they can relate to on the show, it’s only fair. I love your page, so cloud I found it!!
Indeed it does; Rock Lock is gonna be making his first appearance in the new episode this Saturday so keep an eye out! And thank you so much, pls subscribe if you havent already :)
But black people do not need black characters to feel like they could be heroes man.
Almost all of us grew up on batman superman and the rest and we wanted to be them so I don't think you need to see a character with the same race to achieve that.
A kid will literally not give a damn what skin colour the character is as long as they are cool. We all had the same thought process once.
Joshua Fasua You see the issue is that is as a black child when you only see white or asian (in anime and mangas case) superhero’s it feels like my race cant be a superhero or understand the problems we go through so it does take an affect
@@riptidematic0275 I'll content of character over skin color any day of the week.

There's black ppl in Japan, their miss Japan is half black.
true story
100% true story. Dude doesn't know what he was talking about.
I love when they include black people in anime. I grew up on Naruto and I kinda wondered why there weren't black people. Imagine my excitement when I found out there was an entire village!!
There were black people lmao
Bee?
You guys really need to read his comment more clearly.
Oh yeah I see now I didnt read it right
All the black people ethier had blonde hair or were lightskin
He can't lock down anything organic (or maybe just living?), but he can probably lock down your clothes to the point where you're practically frozen in place
That's what I thought of.
Why did i read the title as rock lee im such a doofus
You're not alone i did the same thing lol.
This dool better not be implying the Earth is flat!!???
I’m just joking ahah
I'm black and I love anime so much and every time I see a black character it is so refreshing because it is a lot more easier to project yourself onto that character
I’m a young black man myself I love anime and I really think having more diverse people in anime let’s people connect more to a show so I would highly suggest more anime and manga makers to think about all races and make more beautiful shows like this
Conrad Rose Agreed!
agreed
I don't mind seeing diversity, HoriGOATshi is a solid dude. If he finds inspiration, Im all for it. 🖖🏾 Congratulations on 70+ 💪🏾‼️
Legit, if anyone can seamlessly weave it in it's HORI. Rock Lock is a step in that direction
Also thank you man!!! Reaching 70 was acc a big deal to me, hopefully 100 by end October * fingers crossed* 🤣
@@TurtleQuirk Agreed!! And no problem man. I know what that feeling is like! Keep doing your formula and you get there. You're on the right track for your current speed. Let me know if you need any suggestions 🖖🏾🤩

TR-X -SH OUR world

(It’s a joke)
no its a donut XD/V joke
Idiots, the earth is OBVIOUSLY a paper mâche pidgeon
it`s rare for anime to make a black character looks like one instead of just giving them dark-skin
Yeah I'm glad they have him natural hair and the lips we have but not grossly exaggerated
The “Japanese” people in MHA can look like anything, can have blue eyes, blonde, and so on before we even approach the quirk related appearance stuff. I don’t know why a lot of the main characters have pretty much the same skin tone when there’s even variation IRL in skin tones among back people. It would be easy to incorporate people of typically foreign races in through appearance and character coding-I’m just worried about the handling of the cultural aspects. A lot of Japanese buy into the stereotype that 99% of Americans/westerns are blonde hair blues white and then hold a caricature of Black people in their heads. I don’t trust Horikoshi on that. I think there’s an obviously Black character in MHA because he thought it was aesthetically cool-not because he wanted to write a Black character. If you saw the poster he drew for The Last Jedi, his rendition of Finn was coming pretty close to the line of donut lips for Black characters and so on. Do you see what I’m saying? I think incorporating characters of all races and cultures into the story adds to vibrant culture that this story embraces..but I don’t trust him to accurately execute writing that kind of character, even if everything relevant to that racial identity is heavily minimized to the tiniest detail. In addition, MHA in-universe is still a pretty Japanese centric story-all the top ten Heroes live and work in Japan so we can assume that the “Symbol of Peace” is mostly Japan’s symbol at the end of the day. But like you said, that Japan, in terms of its demographic makeup, doesn’t have to be identical to the one of our world today. However, the fact that is the cultural reality of the creator will limit his execution of that kind of vision.
(For reference, I am Black).
Ok, so you don’t necessarily trust Hori to represent the black experience accurately because he’s so far removed from it? That’s good logic to be fair. I didn’t see the poster he drew for the last Jedi, but looking at Rock Lock he doesn’t appear to be a stereotype as far as I can see (but like you say it could just be for aesthetics). I feel like I trust him to at least have a crack at it, he pulled off a transgender character without seeming to piss too many (sensible) people off (For reference I’m black too)
None of the people there are really white, they’re all Japanese they just look white
CK Lim This is absolute bullshit. This is NOT the reason there are more characters of color in manga.
CK Lim I’m sorry to burst your bubble but racism does exist. I’ve seen characters of various skin tones in different manga for years. It’s just that Japan is a racially homogeneous society with its own set of cultural/ societal issues and history. Many ppl have not encountered other races outside of media sooo..do some research dummy! 🤨
Akkesama I looked up the picture he made on TLJ and I don't really see how Finn looks bad or has "donut lips". Sure his lips are bigger but John Boyega does have pretty plump lips. As for the rest I don't really see what you mean. Rock Lock is a side character and has actually gotten more screentime than some other side characters. In my opinion I like that Horikoshi just wrote him like he would write any normal character writing around a characters blackness limits them as a character.
Imagine he's son can lock everything that no need to touch it
Basically like telekinesis except it stays in mid air
I just assumed hero exchange or immigration. Plus 200 ish years is a long time so trends may have changed. Now if Deku goes to America and we saw no black people that would be odd.
i dont think we saw any black people in the all might flashbacks of him in America tbh
Aleph Null We barely saw anyone in all mights flashbacks lol.

Very nicely stated. I agree rock lock’s design is hands down the coolest in mha so far just subbed to you and watched all your vide keep up the great work man😁
Rock lock came straight outta the boondocks
Bruh when i saw him get stabbed i thought the first black character would be kiled straight away
Underrated hero, honestly. Hope we see him in a more prominent appearance.
I have been trying to buy his earrings for so long
Such a creative power ! Awesome thanks for the video
Thank you for watching my guy 😉
For the record Black people have lived in Japan at the very least Since the end of WW2. Even there is even a legendary Samurai who was a Black man as well.
Can confirm. Spent two days in Tokyo just this past weekend, and saw at least 4 Black men.
And that was afro samurai helll yeah
@@lukewilson2184 OMG!!! No he was a real Samurai by the name of Yauske. Description of him say he was as strong as 10 men and he toward above most other Samuria standing around 6"6.
@@ShawnLuster ummm do you know afro samurai hes an anime character of course he not a legendary hero
Shawn Luster that's not what I'm saying I'm saying that he's fictional not real so of course he's not a samurai that existed back in who knows when that's why I was joking when I said it was afro samurai just a misunderstanding thats all
Dope vid, and really good points. Representation is so important
Thanks my man, got more like this incoming so would appreciate a sub 👍🏾
For me personally, i just let the author do his thing. Write the things that they envision, I’m just here for the ride. Some people wants diversity for the sake of diversity, if an author wants to have a story with only their native nationality, let them.
Sometimes being diverse get the author in troubles, sometimes people see their interpretation of a certain nationality racist. Some are, but sometimes the author just lack the knowledge or history of them. So for me if you are (ex : Japanese) author you don’t have to force yourself to write about characters of other nationality.
(Sorry for my English, I’m a Filipino btw)
cloud strife Toriyama the creator of dragonball z had issues with the visualization of blacks within his show, and was classified as a racist. In my opinion I think he grew inspiration from the United States and how they viewed blacks within the early 1900’s and most know here in states that is a wrong turn.
loved that u came with this discussion !!! subscribed for the high level content u comming with
Appreciate that brooo!
Horikoshi took a page from araki when he gave him his power. There's a stand in JoJo that can do the same thing.
And if you tap the object repeatedly you build up momentum and when the lockdown is released it'll shoot like a bullet.
Sale's Craftwork. I know.
Technically there are black people living in Japan
I’ve been in Japan and they were very kind
Just you see them in the clubbing district working
But they were very kind
One with the culture
Great analysis video. His hero costume is so cool. I think that it will be good more characters from different races and species. Season 4 is doing a good job with centipedell and rock lock.
His quirk is really similar to chronostasis, sort of.
I get where you’re coming from, they’re sort of the inverse of each other. Rock Lock *fixes* inanimate things whilst Chrono *slows down* living things
Thank you
So with enough practice could he slow people's ageing?
Really cool video man love the way u phrased everything you are a stand up guy and I respect u for this thank you man
Why did I read it as Rock Lee
"It's not OUR Earth." *shows flat Earth*
Is....is this proof?
He’s actually pretty cool, his quirk is interesting and pretty fucking unique. I also really like his personality, where he’s more of like a concerned father in the current arc.
Rock Lock sounds like something from some sick rhymes... Like rapping... Oh. XD
Thanks for the breakdown. Whats the original anime opening track called thats used for the music sample at the end? Can't remember for the life of me
What is the name of the theme that plays when rock lock uses his quirk in the hallways?
I subbed because ur opinion was eloquently spoken
It's like he has Stasis and Magnesis from Zelda BOTW
My brother voices this guy
Yooo that’s so awesome 😭 Has he seen this video?

@@pr0gam3r42 nah not really lol not like it has anything to do with me but yea xD
Im black and i wanna live in japan when im older
I like rock lock his quirk is cool
Also, the implication that Tokyo has the lowest crime rate and some of the most infamous hero agencies, it would stand to reason a lot of diverse people would move to japan
The only issue I have with Rock Lock is that his quirk seems completely useless for actual fighting. It was super useful against that one villain that could make the Yakuza hideout shift around, but I don't see him being useful in a major battle like what's currently happening in the manga.
Can you do a what if scenario Video of my hero like what if certain Charakters in my hero fight against another and who would win?
It’s kind of funny that the dub episode with this character came out at the same time of jojo part 5 dub with the guy that has the same power (stand name arts and craft)
In my opinion it's good to have a very diverse type of character specially in a world full of uniqueness
We can basically call this kraftwork from jojo
If this quirk works on clothes then this is a REALLY useful quirk
There was a black guy in two heroes but that was in America
Oh really, I don’t remember a black character then but it’d make sense cause it’s America. The character probably didn’t speak though I bet 🤣
@@TurtleQuirk it was when all might was young and after he defeated the robbers you see a black guy in the audience
Basically Arts and Crafts but in my hero?

The very first thing that I thought of
@Chance Maybe because thats the only name people know? I really don't see the confusion here
Alright, I got over the mic thing. How do we get more you more subs bro?
Glad to hear it 😉 best way to help the channel is to watch vids from beginning to end (helps algorithm) and share them on socials when you can!
This is off topic but Rock Lock vs. Uravity would be hilarious because she defies gravity while he can pretty much reinforce it
Can we get some theory crafting of different uses of quirks like rock lock locking the air to stop a punch or bullets or using the best jeanist quirk to weave objects or slip his strings into a razor coating. Just some ideas but I always feel you could use your [insert fav character power here] many different ways like luffy. That's my Ted talk thanks
his quirk lockdown which happens to be some counter to corona lol
This is the english dub voice actor's youtube channel! czcams.com/users/GabeKunda31
So you saying that basically only all might and Izuku could move the things rock lock locks in place
Has to be someone super strong, not only those 2 though
There are a lot of people that can do it, muscular is one example
Fun fact: His voice (English) is gabe kunda and he voiced kay/o from valorant and other animes too like attack on titan
Nice video by the way keep it up
Appreciate that!! Stay tuned
Turtle Quirk Congrats on 100k subs!!!! been watching in silence but im so proud of you
Can he lock gentle criminals quirk?
He is basically the "D&D Immovable Rod" man.
Dude he’s the most underrated bnha character, And I love his dub voice hahah
Anything that gets rid of the shows strong sense of nationalism is a thumbs up from me
I think when he locks things in place it would take someone with a strength quirk to move it and we don’t know how much strength it would take to move it so possibly moving a thing he locked in place may be very hard thing to do even for someone with super strength
When I read a manga or watch a anime I always the characters are Asian or of Asian descent unless stated otherwise even if that character as blue eyes or blonde air. I was surprise to find out how many people thought most anime/manga characters were white even when the setting of the story was in Japan.
I want his quirk just for the porpoise of laying on my bed and locking my phone above me so I can watch stuff
Ik I’m late(as usual) but do you think they should confront it like AOT(SNK) did in the manga when the gang met a black person for the first time?
This video had me clapping!!!! As a fellow Blerd I thank you!
I would like it if MHA had more diverse characters because it's just realistic. People in the real world have different skin colors, sexualities, gender, etc.
Exactly that
@Chance In the present, remember that this anime takes place in the future.
MrGarm that’s just a art choice. Most of the characters are Japanese
Chance But Nezi is a literal cat lol. So do animals have races now?
The fact that quantum locking can be done irl
Who was the first black character shown in naruto?
Killer bee I believe
I will be real i only knew about rock lock because of a fanfiction about izuku creating the infinity gauntlet
I mean if he locks all ur clothes in place that’s the equivalent of locking the person in place
Happy birthday to you Rock Lock🎉🎁🎂🎊
I would like if the show would explain how some other places in the world works. For instance, MHA is on japan and how japan society worked the quirk appearance in its way. It would be cool if there were internship students that came from other countries where quirk appearance lead to some civil war, anarchy type of shit(what i think would happen to my country if powers were to appear sometime).
I could be wrong, but when they were talking about the plan, they were saying stuff about local heros that aren't really super well known, and it sounded like rock lock was one of those heros. So he isn't really on the hero standings at all, if I'm right about that
I didn't even look at his color. His comment about the newbies was uncalled for. However, I like how he acknowledged Midoriya. He seems like the type of person who will take back what he says anyone new proves themselves.
My hero academia should have more characters from different backgrounds or nations or religions we need people different colors o
Rock Lock’s quirk is cool
Yes it is indeed, did you see it in the episode today?
YAS but his quirk works differently than you said, his quirk is actually locking any object he throws in place, then when he unlocks, it will continue how it was going
I’m not 100% sure, as it’s specific usage in the ep was an anime original moment - we’ll see how it’s primarily used going forward 👁 could just be an alternative application
If so I’ll have to make an updated version of this video 🤣
There's this small problem I've found in Rock Lock's ability. It's description literally says that it locks things in space right. But as we all know, the earth is not stationary at all. We spin at thousands of mph and rotate around the sun at like 64000mph. So it's not really locking it in space, but rather locking it relative to the speed of which the earth is moving. But you can imagine though, how much destruction this quirk can cause if it inded does lock stuff in space. He can lock a piece of steel and let it loose, it would destroy almost anything in its path since it'll be moving faster than a bullet.
I think the fact that the earth is always moving is the reason why he can't perfectly lock things in place
Great video, Great points!
Thank you! I put out a new vid yesterday if you wanna check it out 😉

Unknown! My guess would be top 100 somewhere
Turtle Quirk oh okay thank you!
I wish I saw more of him
Wouldn't locking something in place at a specific point in space would make said thing fly away because of the Earth's rotation and revolution around the sun?
we have a washing machine as a hero so I think we are fine.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Inasa Black or at least mixed.
No...
