- Today I'm showing you how I built a DIY modern Murphy bed for my mom's home office/guest room using a DIY Murphy bed kit from Rockler! This is by far the BIGGEST build I've tackled to date and I am so excited to share it with you!

Great job! I am 60 something now but in my 20's I rented shop time at a vocational school to make furniture for my house. Fortunatly there was a teacher on hand to help me out because I didn't know anything when I started. I was the only girl in the class, initially it was a little strange for all the retired old guys but it eventually just became about the work, and helping each other out. It makes me so happy to see young women doing what they want to do without barriers. I really admire your craftsmanship, and your videos.

This looks perfect for a home office/guest bedroom. The backdrop when it's up looks very professional
35yr woodworker here. I Like your design and space saving functionality. Two helpful hints for you; the supports will be sufficient for lighter weight people. Be cautious putting heavier people as pine and size of stock limit stability. Even with the support having the 2pc construct. 2nd spend more time sanding. It affects the finnish sooo much. Best wishes on future projects. While i have taught several females other trade crafts, i have not had the pleasure of teaching woodworking to an interested one. The pride in the reveal is awesome. Makes it all worthwhile.

Fabulous build!! I built a murphy bed for my bedroom when I was 15. It was totally generic lol. I utilized a closet, built a bed frame out of some spare 2×4's and used door hinges to screw it to the floor. It worked but it was heavy to lift and lower by myself. Yours looks and works 100% better!! Great job Sam! and thanks for the assist family😁

This would be great even for a guest bedroom without enough room for an office. That is, if you lived in a small home and needed a yoga or exercise area (or even a bigger play area for kids), a Murphy bed could free of space. This bed is gorgeous.

Looks awesome! And great timing - something for the kiddos to look forward to over the weekend (after busy first week of remote school; plus it should bring back fun memories from summer where we were planning the basement finishing options together as family and looking at Murphy beds for the bedroom addition). Although our basement finish is on hold for couple months (local electricians too busy for a "small project" like ours), this will help the kids not lose hope as we have been looking at Rockler's Murphy beds as well (and you know they love watching your videos). 😊 Keep up the great work, Sam! 👍
