      I think one of the most distinguishing parts of the Louvre is how crooked it is. You did a great job making yours look different just by straightening it up.

      @fenxis Před 3 lety +6

      My guess is that the Google maps version of the Louvre has a lot of construction going on. Ie no fountains working, road into underground garage full of material, the area at 24:00 seem to be worker buildings (you called them AC units).

    11:42 These bollards were added after the attacks in Paris. To prevent trucks from entering open spaces.

    • @deathbygrapes5
      @deathbygrapes5 Před 3 lety +1

      All bollards are designed to do that. In fact, trash cans, benches, parking meters, all serve the same purpose

    • @blanco7726
      @blanco7726 Před 3 lety +1

      Death B. Grapes and trees as well, but all these are more to protect pedestrians from car crashes and accidents, since they are more spaced apart. Its easy to drive between them if you go slowly, but if you drive fast and lose control it is more likely that you will crash into the trees, benches etc rather than hitting pedestrian walking behind them, since you will go off the road diagonal

    • @deathbygrapes5
      @deathbygrapes5 Před 3 lety

      Blanco That's the point. No attacker would drive at a slow speed, it's counterintuitive.

  • @quoniam426
    @quoniam426 Před 3 lety

    Fun fact, the roundabout in the middle od the Louvre crossing road feates an inverted pyramid for the underground Louvre shopping mall.
    If you look closely to the Google map pictures, the tunnels of the Guichets du Louvre, on the Rivoli stree side are not obliques. The road is bent to prevent that. Fun fact, before 1870, the city of Paris was extending inside the Louvre and the little garden between the guichets road and the real Tuileries gardens didn't exist. When the Tuileries palace (closing the whole Louvre area between the end of the two wings) burnt in 1871 at the end of the Second Empire period, the small district was also demolished and left space for the little gardens.
    The sand and gravel ground near the Carousel arch is reflecting the sun quite a lot hence its whiteness on the photos.
    The stairs near the statue not only leads to the shopping mall and undergound museum entrance (and metro) but also leads you to the remains of the old medieval Paris wall which the Louvre castle was one of the gates.
    The sunken area around the square courtyard is the the emplacement of the old mediaval main castle moat. The courtyard is where the main keep used to be.

    The tunnel is left-hand driving because Rue de Rivoli is a one-way road and Quai des Tuileries as well so to avoid cars to cross each other’s route they did that.

      @Skibitth  Před 3 lety +1

      Skibitth and as you said there is a parking space as well.
      The staircase leading to nowhere is actually leading to the mall, the museum and metro under the plaza and the triangle shapes are fountains but they don’t work for years now

    Some Cities: Skylines builders on CZcams are able to reach a level of realism that blows my mind. I can tell because, for a split second, I thought the opening was real life camera footage.
    Adding: I think the concrete things at 8:49 are fountains and pools, but they seem to be empty at the time the Google people streetviewed that place.

      Skibitth 😀 that would be interesting to see how you tackle it’s size. You have the ever expanding Canary Wharf in the east docklands which is starting to look like a mini Chicago with the skyscrapers between the water ways, you have the city (square mile) cluster opposite ‘the shard’ and then to the west most of the main landmarks and shopping areas. Great city for doing both historic builds and new high rise. Beast of a project mind you..
