Someone else is driving, I can only daydream

- Maxson Goh films a short film, call it a video response if you will, of the posters that are being hung everywhere that illustrate how out of touch LTA is to reality.
How many people honestly would rather commute by public transport than car? How many people on public transport are just daydreaming of being able to afford a car whilst being packed like sardines?
Videos are all taken by me between 2012 and June 2016.
Initially started in late 2012, I set out to document the daily routine (inconveniences) for commuters on public transport, although the project was shelved in 2014, I have decided to revive it, as the posters everywhere are nothing but pure fiction, hence I would like to make my point.
Yes, some of the footage might be taken years ago, but it's still an accurate portrayal of the situation today. I just obtained my driver's license, but someone else is driving, I can only daydream...

.... about having personal space
exactly! being a highly introverted individual, I crave for my personal space ugh
Same here. It just sucks when I have to either turn my brightness all the way down or go to the extent to tilting my phone away.
+d4rkf4ith HAHAH I totally understand bro
This is what car-lite Sunday has done to us!
1980s: *throwing my slipper to the other side of the train* Wow, I did not hit anyone ( there is nobody on the train)

Oh my, thank you so much for illustrating what I found so blatantly ignorant and even disturbing about LTA's Walk Cycle Ride campaign, how they neglect the actual reasons that people don't take public transport... Crowdedness, waiting time for buses/trains, buses/trains that are too full to even get in, actual travelling time on trains due to prolonged stalling time at stations/en route, etc etc... the list goes on! Thank you for voicing out for the everyday commuter :)
no problem! I'm sure this is how majority of us feel about the campaign as well
taxpayers money may i add
LTA: Lost touch already
they were never in touch lol
LTA: Lose To Australia and yes even australia (Sydney)'s trains are double deck so it doesn't seem crowded even in rush hour

Back when 58 only operated once every 15min during peak hours (yes the bus is empty before reaching Ubi Ave 3 but there's where ~100 ppl will board the bus, since it's the only bus serving that road - so I think SWTs were a step in the right direction)
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA exactly what i thought when I saw the posters at yishun and this video explains it all! Great job!
Thanks!
"Someone else is driving, I can daydream"... or can I ? XD
410G or 410W is crowded when I go to school
i think this is one of ur best video ... i love this
Thanks!
3:02 Shots fired! Good job once again though. And congrats on getting ur license.
well the intention isn't really to outright bash LTA, more of just getting personal views off my chest. And thank you :)
Glitchfan how did u get ur fliming lisence?
I love this
This is what happens when those B10Ms and B10TLs are scrapped in good condition. Since " More buses, better rides", " Less buses, Worse rides". How I crave for personal space during peak hours these days! Sigh! :
what is the name of the song used in this video?
2:37 Black Magic
Should add a segment on the MRT platform showing that nobody can board the train.
We're careless* because we are car-less*
This is why LTA shoundnt put this
Genius
I wonder how come 84 is crowded from 1:04 - 1:07 ?
demand from the rd end
All limited standing bus, train right?
The woman too stund to speak
quite true
2030: *Yishun's diarrhea*
14 used to be overcrowded serving 2 schools but now got 46 to tms i am so relieved
Like this is one of the few probs lta consulted
If lta not restrict man a24s by having 4 doors, 2 for each carriage it would be better than the dhoby ghaut queue
Just let the public be more confident on the new man a24 bendy buses but i think the mercedes bendies should be deregistered early
TEMASEK AND SOMETHING ELSE UGHG
WHEN I TRY TO SLEEP IN THE BUS I HEAR LOTS OF NOISE
In bus 14
wah, first time see you take train sia
Although public transport in Singapore is crowded and not the best, I felt that crowdiness on buses and trains have significantly dropped with new trains & buses. Before C830Cs were introduced, the CCL was very crowded and could queue up to the other platform and might need to wait up to 3 trains before you can board one. But now, although there is still crowd, it is not as crowded as before and maximum only need to skip a train then I can board.
for trains I'm not so sure, as I usually take train only once or twice a month (didn't actually take mrt from 2014 to early 2016 at all haha) , I prefer to use the bus as it's less crowded in comparison
Ya daydream about going home quicker ...
high five hahas
So true
that's why a few years back i gave up on public transport and bought a car
1:09 poor 1688
4 years on, we got crawling buses, covid, pretty spacious buses (except those buses in Bukit Merah and 903 plus lower decks of DDs on feeders) and a 1 billion dollar deficit on bus contracts... oh ya and DDs on feeders running at 2 min frequencies (eherm 913, 911), not saying it's necessarily a bad thing though. There's consequences for everything.
Oh no i should refrain from having bus or train rides on peak hours when i come sg lah...
is 0:33 at old Yishun bus interchange?
yup
oh shoot I just realized this
I remember watching this before
0:18 *serangoon statio n when I go to school*
Now, the situation has improved. 3 years after this video is produced, the public transportation system is much better now.
Not really, pre-cb many bus services are still full to the brim. 969 at Tampines PM rush still has long queues, 27 53 858 airport services always gets full (should give more bendies to 858), Woodlands feeders like 911 also gets full of people as well, 161 and 168 towards and from Woodlands as well are always jammed full, Boon Lay feeders 243 and services 179 or 181 queues are also way too long, 856 at Marsiling station, 118 at Tamp ave 10 during peak hrs, and last but not least cross border services are still filled to the brim (before cb as said above) It may have improved a little but not much at all, some buses are still filled to the brim.
That is so good
Oh my god
1:33
Until now, it's still true during peak hours
Smrt and sbst:we exist

sorry i'm a horse so neigh!
jk

Singapore transportation will never ever be great again.
Have to admit it
Meme: if LTA ads were honest, it would this video. "Enjoy Crowds while you work all day only for us to scrap old buses and ban preservation"
Very sad. I hope things change for the better
@@glitchFan2428 why LTA so out of touch? Higher ups really must commute by car.
I cant help but laugh at the reality. (That is why Expectations vs Reality is a thing)
And taking e-scooters in trains is just a pain in the ass.
I guess this is one of the reasons why my parents bought us flight tickets out of Singapore...
I intend to leave as well in the future, being a film student I feel that Singapore is not a platform that I can reach my full potential. This country is actively shunning creativity for academic results, and we see evidence of this in our daily lives.
I love Singapore and all of its tourist attractions as well as the buses and trains and stuff, it's just that the population is too overloaded... Transportation is always crowded, hell I even missed my chance to ride on SBS2888T on Service 518 back in '09, super rare bus I couldn't get on because too many people...
Yeah.. poor 2888T, was scrapped 2 days ago, managed to salvage a seat thanks to a friend. So I can "ride" 2888T in my room hahaha
glitchFan2428 Lol :P
glitchFan2428 why your lastest video brought me here? How much is your 2888T chair? I want it too. And where you brought it

What to do? Even with the new BCM, the buses are crawling all thanks to LTA schedule. Late for work or school, can only daydream about going home early
they are working on it .. Slowly ....
and smrt be like "We're working on it"
+Anonymous Banana The Rainbow wish them all the best
Singapore is totally not ready for 6.9m population. Remember the NSEWL breakdown? All due to additional trains -> power dip
I always must wait next bus 912 to school sia. 962 not worth it. Too many people
'I can daydream' I rather do it in the taxi at peace
life would be a daydream if I could afford a car already
+CraftHunterGaming - (Ong) Thats the reason why you should go for cabRewards & NETS. They entitle you to free rides
Try woodlands 161 or 168 berth at around 5pm... thats so crowded a single decker cant hold that much. I missed a B10M cameo on 161 cos too crowded before.
ya true
Every morning 901 is super crowded af due to schools
Nice
Lol i did not know that buses have that much demand as my local bus route has a bunch of double deckers even if there is not much demand
I did not know that bus crashes happened so often in Singapore, hopefully it won't happen when I was recording on one of the bus routes... just saying.
try to record more on off peak if possible, its much more manageable
Peak hours in a nutshell

so true ;-;
243W/G also full. Even at 9+pm
that's true.. It's more worst if it's single deck
When I go to school 410G/W is sometimes full when I'm really early qwq
8169! My rep!
that 913 at 0.47 tho I have experienced that many times esp during sundays as many of the foreign workers go back to their home country
that one happens quite often too. Bus captains sometimes really can't see when the bus is full to the door
0:47
Let the garmen take public transport during peak hour on service 858 from start to finish
Work hard. Get a car.
Work hard -> Buy flight tickets out of Singapore.
I'm still schooling now. A part time job will never get enough money to buy a car here, which typically costs 3 or 4 times more than in the US, not to mention a sum of about SGD$50,000 give or take for a license to own a car that must be renewed every 10 years. Exorbitant taxes for road usage and expensive parking/petrol/insurance doesn't help at all too..
Buy a 2nd car which is about to be scrapped
cool. first time u show mrt and lrt
haha yea. cos I have no interest in rail transport
second*
crowded... in Hong Kong some routes do not even have 50 people in their buses
Hong Kong Buses 590A Yes they dont have 50.. they have 50k

Was that a Top Gear reference? XD
+glitchFan2428 yup lol top gear is so awesome( the old one)
I still quite like Public Transport to be honest but it's mostly buses I am most tolerant with. I used to complain about Singapore traffic but now that I'm back in the Philippines, I began to miss Singapore's traffic. Philippine Traffic is much more worse. Drivers, as well as people on foot, have no discipline. Some parts of the public roads are used for vending by vendors. When you hit them by accident, nearly half of the Barangays will throw rocks at you. Singapore is a different story. Certain problems can be jokes about while in the Philippines, you joke about the problem, your future wil also be a joke. In Singapore, at least foot traffic in Bus Interchanges and Train Stations are always moving. Here in the Philippines, you're just looking for a lobang that will never come. Jeepneys themselves cause traffic to private vehicles because their drivers are mostly uneducated. It is also very inconvenient and dirty.
After my recent visit to Singapore two weeks ago (just to relive my Singapore childhood and find TIB832Z; I didn't find her), I can say this: I'd rather be cramped in a MAN A22 NL323F than get myself squeezed in the stupid, dirty jeepneys. At least you are clean when you get home. Here, sometimes my Aeronautical Engineering Type A will have stains on them for the jeepney's rusts and mud. It really doesn't matter if you are gonna get tired after getting home late. It'll be a lot worse here if you want to be early but slept late. Being tired is normal for someone who works or goes to school. In Singapore, at least there are late-night buses. For jeepneys, only 5% chance in my place. :)
yup I agree that public transport here isn't as bad as in some other countries, hence the video is comparing traveling in Singapore via public transport vs car, not really comparing to other countries. But yes I am thankful for what I have, but am annoyed with LTA's perception of "carefree" and "daydream"
which is why majority of my youtube videos are taken during off peak hrs, it's nearly impossible to film anything during peak.
+glitchFan2428 I can definitely agree with what the LTA says about being carefree. You have to be on drugs or something just to be carefree about peak-hour. :P
wah so sqezzy, if i were in the bus i would walk instead...
estimated size of people in sqeazzy buses
Singer deck= around 30 standing
arculated+ around 35 standing
double deck=around 30*
*i boarded a double deck bus and it was too sqeazzy at the 1st deck
and i climbed up and around 15 people are sitting...
it is squeeze btw.
no my graph is estimated
most of it is from my memory card
+CraftHunterGaming - (Ong) standing on upper deck is not ok, if the bus is filled to the brim (esp top deck), the bus may topple
