- With all this interest in Duffy at the moment its forced me to dig out some of my Bernard Butler videos .
Duffy related as ex Suede guitarist Bernard Butler is her song writer and producer as well as being a fantastic guitarist .
His songs always managed to bring out the best in Mc Almonts voice in thier partnership and they do the same for Duffy .
Im also a great lover of Phil Spector and Roy Wood style of "wall of Sound" productions and Bernard Butler seems to be able to always pull it off and remind me of that stuff. - Hudba
One of the best and most accurate descriptions i ever heard was a music critic who said that when MacAlmont opens his mouth a cathedral falls out of it, his voice is amazing
One of THE most underrated songs of the last gazillion years. Bloody fantastic!
How can a breakup song sound so beautiful? Pure perfection.
Blur? Oasis? THIS defined the 90's, for me.
Stunning song.
This was my decade... and it will never come again.
Ever.
One of the best songs ever... Spector did this in his dreams... Butler is a hell of a producer but the voice of David McAlmont is where its at... this band deserved better than they got... 10 years too early I guess...
I never tire of this song. Loved it back in the day, and love it now. It still gives me goose bumps. Its the whole package, the voice, the strings, everything. One word..WOW
I have been listening to this all day - it's incredible, the vocal, the arrangement, the crescendo, the swell of the song, it keeps going, the lyrics, the performance - that guy fascinates me.
My neighbours are sick of hearing me try to hit these high notes as I sing-along-a-David! My favourite song ever....and glad to see Mr McAlmont with a bit of meat on his bones these days....BTW, his 2011 rendition of this is spectacular....
this will never get old, its pure genius.....
One of my favourite all time songs. So much power in a song. Blows me away every time.
This song is glorious and it's very special to me in that it helped me through a tough time with a PSYCHOTIC ex-girlfriend who put me through hell! The chorus sums it up perfectly!
This song is like transforming this world into heaven for like 3.59 mins. Everything so uplifted, flies and fluid. Why people don't make music like this nowadays.
That voice! A gift from God - straight up. He reminds me of Grace Jones, the way he moves. And genius writing. Those lyrics are just classic. Food for the soul. Wonderful. I am so with you on this, macca5678. Has got to be re-released. Pure, raw talent like this being left on the sidelines, with so much crap being played right now - it's just criminal.
Is the greatest song of all time? YES
this is what music is all about. A great bass and keyboard backing, good rythm and great lyrics. It's a shame they don't make them kie they used to. Classic Tune.
when he hits that note with the word "nooow" i get chills. amazing
This song should be re-released it's brilliant. There is a lot of naff music and poor artist's around at the moment. True talent can stand the test of time and I'm sure there will be many people of all generations who will appreciate this fantastic duo.
Shivers up the spine every time i hear it. Fantastic
Love it love it love it. One of the only songs that can put a smile on my face even when Im feeling sad. QUALITY!!!!!!
loved this for YEARS- the one song guaranteed to make me sing it out loud at the top of my voice - it is just so unusual and poweful!!! yeaheaheaheah!!!
Simply brilliant, how can anyone dislike this?!?
Having seen them live at The Cockpit in Leeds I can vouch for how truly AMAZING David Mcalmont's voice sounds live..and what a great show the whole band put on!
Bought this album (well tape ahem!!) when it first came out, my friends thought id lost the plot but i thought it was genius, it was ahead of its time. Amy, Duffy, Paloma take note!
Angelic voice, great production - absolutely underrated classic. And the song that defined my graduation
An absolute peach of a song! A beuatiful piece of music and lyrics. Came out at just the right time, and has spoken to me on many occasions ( Unfortunately) Actually, this is needs to be heard more, why does great music go unoticed! Grrrr
Simply brilliant
IMHO david mcalmont is possibly THE greatest lost secret in UK pop music in the last 15 years - truly ASTONISHING voice and never got the acclaim he deserved
I'm in a hot room with the log fire blazing and this record still manages to send a chill down my spine...quite simply one of the greatest pop songs ever!
A truly amazing vocal and song too. 10/10
Goosebumps from beginning to end...
Folds my heart every time I hear it...one of those tracks...

This sums up all that is great about Bernard Butler- from the beautiful, sad, harrowing music of Dog Man Star to the beautiful, happy, upbeat music of 'Yes', in only a year.

Soooo happy to have found this song again. I saw the video once on Z-TV in Sweden and never found out who they were or the name of the song. Then I never heard it again until now. Downloaded ripped and safely saved on 3 different hard discs, I even ordered a copy through Mp3va. Brilliant clip and great arrangement and McAlmont is a great singer.
Awesome! I never saw the video when it was originally released.
I love singing along to this this one...makes me feel great doing it....bit like when i sing along to Ben Folds Five " Song For The Dumped"!!
The man sure has one hell of a voice

What a TOP TUNE...... Brings back some memories.
What an amazing track, this takes me back to being in the last year of secondary school. It's such a soaring vocal, just class !!
Wicked tune. The build up towards the end is musical euphoria.
A classic and totally out of the blue for that period of time for music, especially from the ex suede guitarist hehe
This blew me away the first time I heard it live on T.V. way, back..
Wonderful song + a real showcase both for McAlmont's vocals + Butler's production skills, though I think there's a massive nod in the direction of Phil Spector here.
@Megarapture..spot on!
Drag your attitudes into the 21st century..
Homophobia is a waste of time, redundant, pointless and above all, like racism and sexism a total yawn.
Who cares if he's gay?
Well, obviously still some bigoted, blinkered, gits!
im nearly 40, but i love this song sooo much complete classic xxx
Just brilliant..............no more needs to be said
this song blows me away in so many different ways
Ah, I love this!! I remember when it came out, I thought it was awesome then and now it seems even better (what with being a so-called 'adult') xx Thank you
Well, I came to check this out, WOW, amazing vocals. Too bad I never heard them before.
hate the misery of nostalgia, love this fine tune.
absolutely love this song.
Fantastic happy song..i love it.
absolutely bloody right mate! music heals...
what a performance!
Wow I feel like I must have heard this song somewhere in the past, perhaps simply from the powerful reverent rush of it .
I knew of the Butler and McAlmont collaboration but couldn't recall ever hearing anything by them. I heard this on the radio the other day and assumed it was McAlmont and Michael Nyman after seeing an interview with them. Now I know who it's by and how glad I am to be aware of this songs existence!
