The Japan men's national volleyball team (Japanese: 男子バレーボール日本代表) represents Japan in international volleyball competitions and friendly matches, governed by Japan Volleyball Association. Their nickname is "RYUJIN NIPPON (龍神 NIPPON)", meaning "Japanese Dragon God" or "Dragon God of Japan" in Japanese.[1] Japan won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games, followed by silver at Mexico 1968 and a gold at Munich 1972. The years after this have been less successful. Japan missed three successive Olympic Games before returning at Beijing 2008, where they failed to win a match. Japan then failed to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games and also missed Rio 2016 after finishing seventh at the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Tokyo.
The Canada men's national volleyball team represents Canada in international volleyball competitions. They are overseen by Volleyball Canada, the governing body for volleyball in Canada. The team placed fourth place at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and three bronze medals at the Pan American Games in 1979, 1999 and 2015. They have participated in four Olympic Games, including most recently a fifth-place finish at Rio 2016, after returning to the Games following a quarter-century absence. Canada hosted the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto where they beat Puerto Rico for the bronze medal. Canada competed at the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup in 2015 for the first time in 12 years, finishing seventh. They last appeared in 2003, also finishing seventh. They finished joint-seventh at the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship.

His saves and floor game are great and his serves are tricky. Its easy to miss his importance but I really believe he’s the heart of the team as much as the attackers are

Canada is officially falling off the world volleyball map. This team is a shell of their 8th place finish in the Tokyo Olympics. All their top players are too old or have retired. One of the best hitters, Vernon-Evans is not even on the team anymore in the past couple of years. The problem is they have zero talent coming up the ranks to replace them. The only young player that showed a lot of promise is their new libero, Currie but he alone can't help this team.
Canada looks for height first, then reach, then attack height, then block height..
That is why Canada looks like trash.
That thinking is all the way down in the youth ranks. So we will be trash for a long time coming

I think it’s because instead of looking for talent and good players we look for height and natural gifts. I also think the way we play is dated. We dont take risks with new players and rely too much on the old. As a canadian I am very frustrated with our team sadly. The worst of all is we do have young talents, but they never get their chance to shine because of our tunnel vision when it comes to volleyball.
