I'd like to find out about any famous DJs who tried and failed to get a place in this battle back in the day. The only one I know who did it is DJ Disk. I wonder if Q-Bert ever tried. Surely he would've been successful if he'd tried to get in it. I would've definitely tried myself, but I didn't start battling until '97.
