  • The Fluval Spec is where it all started for me. These little kit tanks have been apart of this channel from the very beginning.
    As for the contest just look for a pinned comment. If you don’t see one you can still win just leave a comment! Unfortunately this is for US residents only as the the shipping would break me. I reserve the right to reject you if you are rude, Im not rewarding that.
    Contestants are picked at random! Good luck!
    Heres some stuff I like to use on my amazon list. Check it out if you do shop on here it helps me directly. But no pressure if you don’t want it don’t buy it. It’s still a good source for info if you are curious.

    If you’re worried about the water level and want to easily see it, drill a hole lower and let the water in the tank get low too.
    Not sure about the fluval but on some of these filters you can shorten the tube going to the pump and raise it, that lets you put a short heater in the bottom so it stays submerged. Maybe even use a smaller pump if you want less flow for a betta.

    The fluval spec 2.6 was my first aquarium that I’ve had for almost a year now. I had so many problems in the beginning with green water algae. It’s finally mostly self sustaining and is stocked with just shrimp and snails. I wish I had started with the 16 gallon. A lot of people have said the smaller ones are hard to keep stable and I was a beginner so it was a nightmare lol

    I cut the plastic filter partition out on my spec V and I put in a suction cup sponge filter and heater in the same location the compartment used to be. The evap was proving problematic for me, stuff was accumulating back there and hard to clean, and the flow was too strong for my dumbo halfmoon bettas big flowy fins (not to mention, he would constantly hang out at the grill where the water was flowing to the filter, tearing up his fins pretty badly). I wasn't a fan of the light either (color to me wasn't warm white, too cold looking for me) so I put the smallest Current Satellite light made and called it a day. It's a pretty tank, but it's not without its flaws.

    From what I've heard, the analogue timers like the one you have (with pins that you move up & down to set the time) work, but not the digital ones for some reason. Personally, I find the analogue ones cheaper, easier/faster to set up, and less room for error. Like the time we set up new digital timers right before going on vacation and came home to find our fish having trouble swimming through the hair algae forest that had sprung up after 125 straight hours of light lol

    • @pecktec
      @pecktec  Před 4 lety

    • @annethornton9938
      @annethornton9938 Před 4 lety

      @@pecktec However, I have to say that we've used the digital timer/power bar successfully on both the new Spec V and the old Spec I successfully, so I'd assume it'll work with the old Spec V and the new Spec III that I have in the setup cue. I wonder if/why the Spec 16 would be different, but as you suggested in your video, it's different enough that it almost needs another name than "Spec"

    • @owenbryant6328
      @owenbryant6328 Před 4 lety

      The problem with the light depends on your electricity standard. Works great with North American 60hz but in the rest of the world at 50hz a timer won’t work. At 50hz the light doesn’t come back on when the electricity is switched back on - you have to press the button on the light.
      Different types of timer all do the same thing - turn the electricity on and off like a switch at a preset time. So the timer type is a red herring.
      Love the videos. Thanks.
