I am unimpressed by stardom, but Buscemi is an anti-star. Not wanting his face postered around his neighborhood speaks to the essence of the man.
Years ago, when my son was really little, Buscemi was walking into the local bookshop, as we were walking out. He not only held the door for my kid, but then proceeded to patiently hold it for a line of people passing through. I couldn't help but take quiet note.
Not only an exceptional actor, but a humble role model in his community, and living proof that not even fame can mess up a guy who knows himself and holds firm to his roots.

No greater testimony to Buscemi's decency and inner humanity than the volunteer work he did with members of his old FDNY company at Ground Zero during the weeks immediately following 9/11. That's a class act!

Steve Buscemi is without a doubt a really down to earth guy. Before acting Steve was a NYFD Firefighter. When 9/11 happened, bearing in mind by that point he was an established actor, he donned his old uniform and joined his former fire company and helped out. He didn’t do it for the recognition, he did it for his brothers and the people who were lost in that disaster.

He was so damn cool - I asked him how he got the cast together and he told us he put the word out for an indie film and they all agreed to work for scale. Harvey Keitel even put some of his own money up for it too but Blake said when you have a good idea and present it to actors and producers just the right way, they’ll agree to do a low-budget production.
Btw, after most of the audience had filed in the theatre, Tim Robbins strolled in and joined us. He and TBN are old friends.

One of Steve Buscemi's earliest performances, in 1986's Parting Glances, is still one of my favourites.

I am so pleased to finally know for sure how to pronounce his name. I’ve seen Mr. Buscemi in so many roles, but I’ve never known how to say his surname.
