Knight of Cups Official Trailer #1 (2015) - Christian Bale, Natalie Portman Movie HD
“Once there was a young prince whose father, the king of the East, sent him down into Egypt to find a pearl. But when the prince arrived, the people poured him a cup. Drinking it, he forgot he was the son of a king, forgot about the pearl and fell into a deep sleep.
Rick’s (Christian Bale) father used to read this story to him as a boy.
The road to the East stretches out before him. Will he set forth?”

Bruce Wayne, if his parents didn't get killed that night
+Ruslan Nurimbetov Damn right there!!!
+Ruslan Nurimbetov LOL
+Ruslan Nurimbetov the cinematography is always lush and well defined i suppose you could alternately say MALICK has that art house sense to him or just a terrible sense of spacial relations !! looks promising ENJOY!!
+Ruslan Nurimbetov and Bane tripping on acid 1:43
+Ruslan Nurimbetov lol thanks for that hilarious post. it cracked me up and now has me in a good mood.
Watching a Terrence Malick film is like doing heroin and acid while self-reflecting in dimly lit room and debating philosophy with a lonely woman as you watch a Fall sunset and let life happen completely in the moment.
Word
Perfect description
im down for the movie but this comment was hilarious
Besides the drug reference that was very poetic and thought provoking. Thank you - po£t
How much time did it take for you to think of that?
The unofficial sequel to the Dark Knight Trilogy. Batman's been living in the darkness for too long, as a bonus he also steals Thor's girlfriend.
+Rubberr Duckyy OMG YES!! That's exactly it, with an extra sexy Christian Bale in tuxedo suits and getting naked.
+Rubberr Duckyy not the marvel/dc crossover I was expecting
+Rubberr Duckyy
You forgot Evey from V for Vendetta, that mean no crossover and still DC
Damn, that was one LONG cologne commercial.
+Rubberr Duckyy Exactly ! but the dream ends when Bruce wayne encounter superman and wakes up as Ben Affleck !
I think people need to somehow realize that making films are not always for entertainment. We are so conditioned to watching films expecting to be entertained. Terrence's films are not like that. It is meant to captivate the viewers through pure visual poetry. His films are abstract - they're closely tied to the viewer's minds in establishing an abstract meaning to the viewer itself. That is how Terrence expresses his message. Every camera angle, movement and setting is meant to evoke a feeling - as opposed to the conventional ways of films such as the use of dialogue.
+Josh Ray Nice to see an open minded comment ✓
As a huge fan of Malick, I was utterly disappointed with this incoherent mess. Unfortunately the beautiful cinematography doesn't justify sitting through this movie.
Yes, likewise, and I get that his movies are often a sort of audio/visual "tone poem", which can be extraordinary, as in Days of Heaven. But IMHO everything he's done afterwards is starting to look and feel like much the same "poem", and almost to the point that it begs a parody of his "style"!
+Connor Stephens Knight of Cups is much more cohesive and coherent than The Tree of Life IMO.
I'd say Terry has created his own voice now, his own way and style...
I'll be honest this is one of my favorite movie trailers ever

Legitimate comment on CZcams
the trailer stays better than the actual movie
It's about realizing - reality and the lack of it, and our place in it and where you want to be in it. What you think you want. Or the lack of wanting anything when the entire world is yours. It makes you think about your own path in this world. Fate or not.
Finally, a person that actually uses his brain leaves a comment. 3x thumbs up.
The right words to describe it.
Something about Malick's work that I love, you can relate to what the characters are going through but without everything being spelled out. For example Christian Bale's character has lost the meaning of life, surrounded by fake, sycophantic people, yet at the same time there is something in the world out there that will save him. Beautiful.
Tree of Life meet Wolf of Wall Street
+newflava89AGAIN meets Terrence Malick
+newflava89AGAIN More like Bruce Wayne persona
+newflava89AGAIN ahahahahahah so true!
+newflava89AGAIN More like Cheap Movie with A+ Actors/Actresses.
+Gregory Decker have you seen it?
looks like a perfume commercial.
Good one ! It does 😄
+A regular everyday halfbird guy with a long name Was it really bad? Like pretentious, hipster art shit?
Majin Buu I couldn't have put it better myself, my friend. It was the epitome of pretentious, hipster art shit, with the exception of maybe three real valuable sentences and one insanely talented Natalie Portman.
+A regular everyday halfbird guy with a long name : thx for the frank review. Looks like I'll wait for a good album to come out, and watch this movie on mute while the music plays. Except when Natalie Portman comes on.
trombone7 I call that a wisely optimized time-wasting strategy. Do enjoy.
this trailer feels like this movie is gonna leave you depressed af.
I felt the complete opposite.
+quetzal785 yeah man. Watching the trailer feels like what I imagine a bad trip on LSD would be like...kinda. Wouldn't be surprised if it#s gonna be a good movie, though.
+netfischer .... Or the worst movie you've ever seen in your LIFE.
+Ice Cat That's the thing about Terrence Malick; he makes movies that move you to tears. Whether they're tears of joy or tears of boredom is always a coin toss.
+quetzal785 I don't think so... I think it's an optimistic movie, but first it makes a realistic assessment of the situation...
"Once the soul was perfect, and had wings, and could soar into heaven". Keep coming back to this trailer.
Spoiler Alert: Christian Bale is not the Dark Knight in this film.
Do you make reviews?
Chris Moore Affleck is!
***** yeah definitely, were doomed because I was only stating the obvious.
Chris Moore damn it
Chris Moore
936 People realized that.
The Dark Knight of Cups : coming soon.
***** His parents....

>all of these commentors who don't know Terrence Malick
please stop talking
I thought it was common knowledge that Terrence Malick was known for making shit movies. They all seem to be somewhat artistic, have great actors, and have great cinematography.. but they always fall short and end up a steamy pile of shit nobody remembers.
@Carl Rees And Days of Heaven was terrible. And badlands was a "eh".
Only note worthy film is the Thin Red Line.
Ian Mayhem Just because you lack the mental capacities to understand a film doesn't make it shit. It makes *you* shit.
Ridley Scott is more coherent and visually striking.
That's enough for me.
daz samuels jajajaja so why you stay here. the brain does not give you for more.
Juan Rulfo why? Because if this can't stand up to scrutiny then its flimsy.
When I saw Terrence Malick's work for the first time I was dumbstruck. Somehow he captured that feeling I had inside me as I moved through life. I always felt in awe of the experience of being alive, and the force that was pushing me through it. My life has gone downhill over the decades so I no longer really feel it anymore unfortunately. But to me, the truest thing i've ever seen is a Terrence Malick film.
I'm sorry you don't feel that force anymore; I hope it comes back and your quality of life improves in some way.
I write and direct films myself and Terrence Malick's work is a poetic inspiration! The experience of life is pretty amazing. We get desensitized to it as time goes on. But it's still there for us when we truly want to embrace it and great art like film and music can take us back to that place as well. A poetic rumination on the ecstasy of life! Malick's film are faith centered without being heavy handed about it and I truly appreciate his vision!
Finally, a sequel to American Psycho
+Caleb W Rules of attraction is the sequel to American Psycho
+Ben Ercolano Rules of Attraction takes place before American Psycho smart guy.
sorry Prequel
😂😂😂😂...silly rabbit

The trailer almost brought me to tears. I can't say that for any other trailer that I have ever seen. I can't wait for the film, I love Terrence Malick. One of the greatest dorectors of all time.
Terrence Malick + lizard brained comments like "boring & pretentious" = MUST SEE!
Really liked the movie. The internal struggle and voiceovers makes it very real to me. I think it has been clear no matter wat position in life you have of how much money, it doesn't mean the (psychological) battle is fake or not sincere. I never had the life he shows in the movie but the emotions where still real to me. I agree the film was very different, but a lot of monologues made seanse to me. Maybe it's a movie you should watch twice, but that seems to harsh for most of the people in the comment section (that's your right). To me it had a lot of psychological content disccusing various battle every individual can experience in life. More of this - I wouldn't mind haha. Great job by all the actors!
but how is this sentiment any news? was it earnestly your opinion that emotional and psychological struggles cease after a certain level of income? if so, then of course, it is revolutionary!
Your comment is inspiring to watch it. Thanks! 🍃
@@OleanderProducing I don’t think that’s what he was saying. Rather that regardless of income level, we all have our own set of difficulties/battles. And I think they can be unique but in some sense that’s how we’re alike and can relate to one another - regardless of their income.
@@OleanderProducing It's not in the slightest about income and he stated that very clearly, so idk what made you say that
Do you like Huey Lewis and The News? ... Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor ... In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Hey Paul !

Yeah?
This movie is actually about Malick himself and what happened to him when he achieved success as a screenwriter, it's not a movie like The Wolf of Wall Street, it's a reflection essay on his past experiences in visual form.
Malick has a habit of making movies based off his own life, such as Tree of Life which is roughly based on his childhood in Texas, and To The Wonder which is literally the story of his first wife from France and how he met his second wife.
It's a VISA ad.
Cinematic poetry. One of my favorite films ever made
Whether or not you like terrence malick's movies or not, you've got to respect him as one of the greatest living directors.
no other director makes films like this.
Is this another "guy gets wealth, power, sex, and loses it all because of something stupid" movie?
wealth, power, sex is the crap the destroys him, self inflicted pain give rebirth and so on.... and many broken people in his wake,
...okay :|
That's like the plot of most stories ever told not just movies so I don't think you can call it cliche.
***** how could you tell if you haven't seen the movie yet?
A Tree
I don't think that because Shakespeare and Homer wrote about it, it can be cliche. Cliche in my mind is more about Popular Culture as opposed to human culture.
Imagine if Terrence Malick wrote and directed one of the Star Wars spin off movies; would never happen in a million years, but, just imagine it.
That would be amazing.
+jed52 it would suck, it would be about how han solo saved the galaxy and got the princess and had everything in life but became a moping mellodramatic...the cinematography would be beautiful, but it would still put 90% of the audience to sleep before it was over.
***** n no
+jed52 never seen a Malick, but after this trailer a Star Wars movie like this would be the tits
+John Pratt watch "the Red Thin Line" or "The New World" they were his some of his best films.
This is one of those trailers where your heart goes in your throat. From 1.18 I was holding back the tears and I don't even know what the F is going on, other than Malick has a way of making films that are meditative, beautiful, inspiring and transcendental.
For some reason I got inspired and got chills when he said "find your way from darkness, to light"
This film is deep and actually i missed cinema that is mesmerizing. Definitely underrated movie. And definetelly not for masses. What's special about this movie is that it acts as meditation. Makes you go philosophical. If you have a lot of problems in life. Watch it alone. And let it suck you in. Better next day guaranteed.
gawd this trailer is incredible. really getting at the heart of what makes life meaningful or conversely how life can lack meaning. Malick's films never lack in their philosophical and spiritual ambition.
This couldn't get more Terrence Malick.
+Connor Smith Yeah it's awesome man!
Needs more trees.
+WheresWallace4883 and more cowbell
+Connor Smith Or Emmanuel Lubezki, cause his style of cinematography has been all over Malick's stuff since The New World.
***** I wouldn't say that the style of cinematography we've seen in the past three Malick films has been Emmanuel's entirely, since other films he was the DoP for (Children of Men, Gravity, Birdman) didn't have a similar style at all. I'd just say that he's very adept at delivering the style of cinematography that Malick wants for his films.
First song: Boomerang - "Let Tomorrow Burn"
Second song: Boomerang - "Farfalla"
Boomerang is a Los Angeles based music company/record label. So finding the songs will be hard.
Thank you!
A movie about a man traveling to the finest beaches, pools, and aquariums the world has to offer.
About damned time they made a movie about Aquaphiles and how they truly suffer for their passion for WATER!!!!
+Zabs McGee actually this is the meaning. travelling to the finest beaches pools etc does nt satisfy soul. his wife, Cate is a doctor, her patients are minority people, saw the healing path, he has to learn
I was reading every comment scrolling down, having fun and all... but you made me stop and laugh for a minute. It was worth it, thank you
One of cinema's greatest achievements. Malick and Lubezki are soulmates as filmmakers; they're two of the best. There's a reason talented actors want to work with them and always create memorable performances. For those who would criticize this film for its lack of narrative, wanting an experience where everything is laid out for them and all questions come with answers, I say you have much to learn about life and cinema. This is a masterpiece.
Bruce Wayne, if his parents were alive.
God knows how many times I've watched this trailer, I'm dying to see this movie.
Same here. Knowing I may have to wait for months or until next year is just torture.
I don`t even know if it`s going to be released here in Mexico :/
man the same shit here over 200 to 300 i have watch this trailer the world primer is december so much to wait
I'm in the same boat.
Emiliano Beristàin MEEEEEEEE TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
After reading one bad review after another I finally sat down and watched it for myself and loved it. Thought about it for days afterward. Great film.
Truly
Watch Tree of life..Another level.
I still think about it, truly one of my favorite Terrence Malick films.
Batman after The Dark Knight Rises
haahhahaha
they should hire annie hateway instead of natalie portman
If this movie is shown in the woods, and nobody is there to watch it, is it still a pain in the ass?
oh look, a rich white man on a journey of self discovery.
sounds good to me
sounds like a classic to me
Haters gonna hate
Tarkovsky (one of the greatest directors to ever live) said that films need to be personal and reflective of oneself and of one's life. And the fact that that Terrance Malick comes from a wealthy oil family might be why this film is what it is.
oh, look, a commie racist.
The Tree of Life 2.0
That's so true!!!
Battle Royale definitely
beautiful! predictable comment
3.0 Malick's previous film To the Wonder was 2.0
Cup of Life
The whole movie looks like a fever dream.
I love this film. It feels so much like Malick is telling about his father and himself because it feels so true.
The music from 1:36 til the end of the trailer is the most beautiful instrumental piece I’ve ever heard in my life! I hope they play that music over a compilation of my pics when I die 😇
I love Terrence Malick, love Christian Bale. I want to see this so badly. the cinematography, the score, it just looks so good. I hope it gets a wide release sometime soon.
Did u watch it?
This must be the most creative/aesthetic trailer I have ever seen in my life
This movie looks like it will be the emotional and physical roller-coaster of a lifetime. I will definitely see this. Looks like a solid film.
i'm in love with christian bale's acting skills
This movie looks amazing. Great cinematography and score. You can understand Malik's story without words.
I 'm glad to see that when finished editing, Terrence kept his leading man in this one.
What a great movie!
I considered it totally RELAXING. I enjoyed so much the incredible images Malick produced. He creates beautiful atmosphere. I loved both urban contests and natural ambients, like the desert.
The way He directed the movie lengthens the time: so actually we see a lot about Rick/Christian Bale, and at the end of the movie We know him well. What can I say? thank you Malick for you art and special point of view.
" there's so much love inside us that never gets out " 🙌🥀
Mr. Nobody with wide angles
1:43 Good to see Bane makes a cameo
Now this, this is how you make a trailer.
No idea what it's about
"I can't remember the man I wanted to be."
*You wanted to be Batman, remember?*
😂😂
This has to be one of the most epic trailers ive ever seen.
Omg...two of my favorite actors in one movie (bale and Portman) it's a dream come true
Exact Bruce Wayne lifestyle minus bats.
+Dominador Dayot Exactly same feeling as mine
I'm still waiting for the 5hr cut of The Thin Red Line.
Can't wait to see this love how this looks and love Christian Bale!
Another Terrence Malick movie, another beach flashback with narration. Well played Mr. Malick. >.>
The second part of this trailer is so freaking good! This is the reason i love movies, when image and sound comes together in one visual orgasm!!!
I think the recent Malick's works can be assumed as his autobiographical films. Tree of Life tells about his family, To The Wonder tells about his love dillema, Knight Of Cups may tell about his career dillema, and maybe the next untitled project tell about his love to music.
That is why the recent works take less dialogue, more voiceover and just swirling around. It is a self reflection film. That makes the recent works of Malick differ than his previous film; and differ than other films. He wants to share us about his story, his mind, his dillemas, in a trilogy of his own movie.
And if i have his cinematic eys and poetry visualization, I might make a movie of my life as Malick did
beautifully said, my friend
I can't wait to see it. Great Cinematography by three times Oscar winner Mexican D.P. Emmanuel Lubezki (Gravity, Birdman, The Revenant.).
I'v never known any movie with such crowd of such gorgeous faces all together, although with only glimpse of them for now.
Natalie Portman, may fav Imogen Poots, Teresa Palmer, Freida Pinto, Cate Blanchett and more many more.
One of the best movie trailers ever made
This looks like a movie that targets the mind just right. One of those that has twists and keeps you engaged and guessing.
One of those movies you may have watch more than once to understand it which is actually a great type movie bytheway.
Bruce Wayne has left Catwoman and he is ready for a new life
Just watched this film again for the first time in a few years. Man, I'd forgotten how good Brian Dennehy is in it. Not Malick's finest by any means, but still a damn sight better than 95% of everything else that came out that year.
One does not simply watch this trailer once and walk away.
"Find your way from darkness to light"
I actually love this trailer. It's basically the editing, voice work, and most definitely the music that sells it.
+inceptional . If you liked that then give The Thin Red Line a watch (if you haven't).
I watch this trailer everyday.
It's just amazing.
visually I loved it. Malik has always had an eye for strong imagery. The story falls short though. There were some things that spoke to me but in the end I was just left a bit empty.
The cinematography looks absolutely gorgeous as usual. Emmanuel Lubezski is a genius.
what i'm supposed to feel?
lechnerjoe What DO you feel? :>
excited... ;)
I think camera movement can actually describe what is happening in real life. It's like eyes and ears, in real life sometimes you can't really hear what other people are talking or look at someone with focus.
wow that cast tho, it's rare that i recognise more than 10 actors from the cast list.
Watched it yesterday! Simply amazing!
Some trailers tell you everything and some like this one make you go wait this is a movie right?
Pretty much what Terrence Malick is about.
Damn man Terrence Malick's movies always had beautiful cinematography
Still an underrated film to this day!
And when the soul finds peace, there is no substitute the world can give.
Who'dan the old men talking in the trailer
jan piet Thought it was John Hurt, but he is not listed in the cast. After digging around and reading comments on here, the voice is of Ben Kingsley. He is listed as (voice) in IMBD.
The film that changed me...
Into what?
@@FLdancer00 into a chameleon

I remember seeing this trailer a year ago... It was one of the greatest trailers I'd ever seen. Looks like it finally came out on OnDemand. haha
I think people want to see this movie, they're just weirded out by the fact that this trailer makes them feel uncomfortable yet deeply intrigued.. But they want to see it, despite how artsy and pretentious it might seem.
+Juanita Jimenez Not rly, after seeing his other movies I rather stab my eyes out.
***** No, most people don't want to see it cause they saw his other work and went out even more confused than they went in. There is just no logic...cause its free interpretation from a to z. It could have millions of reasons. All his movies are 99% melodramatic shots of confused people.
+Juanita Jimenez Yeah, like eating poo
+Juanita Jimenez ...this movie is awful!
+Juanita Jimenez "uncomfortable yet deeply intrgued" nope not in the slightest, just simply confused and not stupid enough to give money to see a film that cant even get its base idea across in a trailer
Was Cate Blanchett keeping her Aussie accent? Good. We love her.
Mind blowing cinematography...
Malick is a master at making me fall deep asleep with his movies.
Bonne Nuit
Looks absolutely stunning. Can't wait!
This movie is about Bruce wayne when his not Batman
Bane at 1:42 "You have my permission to rave."
Yunseon Yang hahahaha ye
About half way through this trailer, as soon as I realized that no plot was being featured, I just KNEW it was a Terrance Malick film :P
Ah, plots are overrated. ;)
It's about making a deeper emotional connection. It's an allegory based on the Knight of Cups Tarot card.
Kiko Joseph Sounds about right.
I love this movie .. every bit of it!
Coming here from The Revenant impressed by Lubezki's cinematography...
I love this trailer starting at 01:15

The film itself is amazing. Definitely not for people expecting a normal, conventional movie.
As a matter of fact, Knight of Cups isn't even a "movie" at all, it has no structure, but for what it is as an experimental film - It's a touching, complex, and ineffable work of art.
Loved it.
Found this trailer while searching for the tarot card. I really love it when Australians get to keep their accents in American movies. 👍
