#harlanellison #comics The often funny and always irascible Harlan Ellison talks about his comic collection and the influence comics had on his fiction.
Thank you for putting up this video.I haven't seen this. Absolute legend. He is absolutely right about the American comic art form. Imitated all over the world. I was flicking through my Dangerous Visions anthology a few hours ago . R.I.P Mr Ellison.
It's a testament to Dangerous Visions that it came out what, 40-50 years ago and people still read it and still talk about it. Ellison was a great advocate for comics but not exactly the sort of friend you would want in a pinch. When his comments got The Comics Journal sued by writer Michael Fleisher, he told Gary Groth not to worry about it that he would be there to help every step of the way. Ellison was rich and famously litigious so he surely could have recommended (and retained lawyers), could have donated some money to the defense, and/or held a charity book signing or two. But when Groth called him for help, Ellison told him he was 'watching TV" and hung up. Like all interesting artists Ellison was clearly complicated. This is one of my favorite clips of him czcams.com/users/shorts5_8v9Mw7XBo

I got to meet him at DragonCon when I had a comic shop. Interesting guy.
That must have been quite awhile back. He was wildly entertaining but by his own admission he "despised his fans."
