    My first nursing job was at a skilled facility. I hated it. They threw me to the floor free 2 days of orientation. They lack supplies, professionalism etc. I had to leave ASAP because a patient coded and I paged and no one came to help. Thank god I was able to perform cpr and call 911. I quit the next day because of the liability against my license. Thank you for being transparent. Thank god I found another job in time. The beauty of nursing!

      I’ve had a similar experience. Short orientation, lack of supply & feeling literally ALONE in a code with everyone standing around me looking on w/o a damn helping hand. It was insane. I’m so sorry that happened to you ! And things like this make me feel horrible because I actually would love to work in a skilled facility knowing how underserved they are. It broke my heart having to walk away knowing what these patients go through. But it’s disgusting how they’re ran & that’s why so many people turn these jobs down. It’s been one huge domino effect & management is so reluctant to see the changes they need to implement first. 🤦🏻‍♀️💔smh

    🙏🏽 Thanks for this video. I started out as a Caregiver in a memory care unit, then a Hospice CNA, now working as a CNA at a rehab/long term care facility and my nurses have been encouraging me to get my LPN or RN. In hospice I never really had to deal with someone coding. But at this rehab facility, I experienced my first code and the adrenaline rush I got from that tells me that I am in the field I’m meant to be in. I got some IT certs planning to get out of healthcare but that experience with everyone working together to save a life with chest compressions, suction, and being apart of saving this woman’s life, I just knew in that second that I’m going to further my education in healthcare. Coming for my LPN 2023 🙏🏽 claiming it.

    Yes hun, you hit everything on the nose! I refused to work in LTC/SNF as it is a liability to your license as an LPN. I would have anywhere from 27 to 40 patients. Besides that, I have worked for a Urology organization, covid testing as a tester and as a supervisor for multiple sites in film and tv. Currently hold a position as an LPN with a top orthopedic hospital. Good positions are out there, the money is out there…one just has to do the research just like you said

    You are so right about LTC/Rehabilitation. I started at one full time, then dropped down to PRN. I recently left altogether for fear of risking my license. Staff was quitting left and right (Admin included) and it was soooooo unsafe. One time there were only 2 nurses in the ENTIRE facility of 90 residents (myself and another nurse). The weekends were the WORST time to work because there even LESS staff. It was always unorganized, untidy, lack of supplies, and lack of support. I felt Sooooo bad for my residents because those facilities need the most care. Im currently at a family practice again because I needed to take a break from craziness and regroup. There are TONS of hospital positions for LPNs and I cant wait to apply!

    • @carynjoi
      @carynjoi  Před 2 lety +1

      Yesss it’s so sad how poor of a condition most of these facilities are in. And it all comes down to management. If they weren’t so focused on for profit & actually investing in patient care they wouldn’t see so many gaps & turnovers in nursing care. It’s beyond me how they felt that it was ok to have 2 nurses to run the whole show. I’m glad you’re in a better environment. I’m with you on that. Protect your license and your sanity. I just feel so bad for these patients being neglected out there bc of lack of clinical responsibility from the higher ups. Hopefully one day things will change. & yes there are many hospital positions out here for LPNS 💕💕

    Wow, thank you for being so candid! I have yet to see a vid where a nurse as said what they make an hour. I love working at a MD office, I'm in family medicine. And I'm an LPN as well. I have no plans to go back to bedside anytime soon. Like you said, it's way too much work and you're more likely to put your license in jeopardy at those facilities. Again, yes it's because of the way they're operated and there's always issues with staffing. Noah is so handsome! Thanks for sharing, can't wait for the next vid.

      Heyy 💕💕 sorry I’m late seeing this. But it really wasn’t towards the end of my program that we had to do evidence based research and group projects / studies. I wouldn’t be too worried or let that hinder me from going into the nursing program. Unfortunately as nurses we have to present / educate in front of patients & colleagues everyday 😩. For orientation depending where you go you may even have a simulation where you end up having to be the clinical lead & direct staff. It all takes a little bit of a breaking out of your comfort zone to build that type of confidence for sure but don’t let that scare you & nursing school is the perfect place to build it bc we are ALL learning & should feel comfortable ‘ not knowing it all’. What I would do is when those projects come into play do your research & practice your presentation ahead of time & even work it out with your colleagues. Participation is looked at also so it’s pivotal you make your presence known in one form or another. You’ll do fine girl. 🙏Go ahead and apply !!💕💕💖💖💖

Trust - it may seem daunting but I feel like anyone who is transparent about these things and are sensitive make great nurses bc believe me, patients can be even more insecure and shy when it comes to talking while they're in a vulnerable state.
