When I die I want this song played because it is one of the only songs that ever made me cry and smile at the same time. I love it so much. Thank you John Denver. I believe it is the best song he did.
I remember being in the psychiatrist's waiting room and this came on the radio in the background. A sad looking woman across from me listened intently to the lyrics and smiled a little, just a little...
This is a favorite of mine from 1976, i used to lay back, and sway...not sing to this one however, as it was more difficult to reach those high notes. It certainly has a message when the weather is grey & wet and your alone again trying to enjoy music like this one which was play on the local pop stations as were all of Johns country flavored hits. They may not hold up so well on the pop stations of today as we have country radio now. Thanks for the great video to go along with the song!
This song is still one of my favorites because no matter how old we get to be, we are always looking for space. Trying to understand things around us. And the only way that we will truely understand is by experience. Weather it be a good experience or a bad one we have learned something by it. The only DVD that I have seen of John flying with the Eagle was "Let This Be A Voice" There was a period of time when I did not watch a lot of TV. So I have missed a bunch of John's specials.
No worries, you are not alone. Due to my parents we were already John Denver fans but my brother and I still talk about that Magnum P.I. episode to this day when we hear or play this song!
This was also the theme of an especially memorable episode(2-part) of Magnum P.I. which was an epic show. I watched it as a kid and as an adult have now watched all 8 seasons completely through twice. Have always loved John Denver's music and always will. This comes from an era where actual talent was applauded. How far things have fallen...
I recall being at my lowest point as a young person and being at the psychiatrist's office and this came on the radio in the waiting room. A woman in the room raised her head and listened intently and smiled a little out the window. Then we caught each other's eye and quickly looked away. Like there was so much in the lyrics that explained why we were there and what there was to hope for.
Yes, I agree that this is one of John Denver's finest songs ever written and sung by him. The meaning is so rich and deep, especially from someone else who had experienced the same training that John Denver took and experienced for himself after writing this song. And the meaning was expressed so beautifully in this song and the Move: "Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron."....when he sang, "Sometimes I fly like an Eagle, and sometimes I'm deep in despair!"
I remember this song being used on "Magnum PI". The older British lady, whatever her name was, said to Magnum "Have you heard this? It's quite extraordinary." Indeed it is.
LO MÁXIMO MI JOHN DENVER!!!...SIEMPRE ESTARÁS ENTRE NOSOTROS A TRAVÉS DE TU HERMOSO Y GRAN LEGADO!...GRACIAS POR ESE VIDEO TAN BIEN ACOPLADO CON LA MÚSICA, MISTIKAY!!! TE QUEDÓ MUY BONITO!!!
John denver is the most talented musician of all time. Just love his songs. His songs always lift me out of my depression. There will never ever be another John denver.
I love John Denver I saw him once in concert. I wish I could have met him. Losing him was a loss to this world, and a gain to heaven. This is my life song. My life video plays in my mind whenever I hear it. Thank you wonderful God for John Denver.
Thank you for putting one of my favourites to this touching video. John was my friend. I never met him and only saw him once, in concert. But, I gained comfort from knowing he was out there, trying to help us live in a safer, more peaceful world. I miss him but his music still lives in my heart. Thank you for sharing.
The first time I heard this song was in that episode! I'd been away at college and hadn't followed the show as much, and then I see this episode a year after I graduated and said, "NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Then CBS played this song in an October '87 announcement and said, "Last year television's most popular private investigator met his maker. As 'Magnum' enters its final season, are you ready for a miracle?"
Walking this earth and being heard, the angelic voice will be REMEMBERED throught time. you , taught us a lesson. for those whom heard it ... applaud the music and your mem, praise god, believe in, profess to the lord in prayer ,outloud, or where ever you need to .....[with respect]........!rory
The lyrics are clearly the result of his involvement with the 1970s human potential group called... est. As a est graduate myself, hearing this song after so long a time is like a shock to the system. I know of what he sings because some of his experience was also mine. And yes... it also brings tears to my eyes.
What most people don't know is that John wrote this song as a result of his participation in a human potential training program called EST: Erhard Seminars Training created by Werner Erhard. Once you've taken the course--or it's modern-day equivalent--"The Forum"--you'll have a much better appreciation for the lyrics in this song. I did. And I do! Wonderful song!
when i was young age 5, grew up and heard this an many other songs of J.D now im getting old...33 yrs , hahaha and a father of 2 beautifull girls age 5 and 8 justin bieber gannam style...etc but when i play JD on guitar or play his music on lp/cd they sing a long sometimes they even get tears in there eyes..and saying this is beautifull good music never die's that's all i try too say
On the road of experience, I'm trying to find my own way. Sometimes I wish that I could fly away When I think that I'm moving, suddenly things stand still I'm afraid 'cause I think they always will And I'm looking for space And to find out who I am And I'm looking to know and understand It's a sweet, sweet dream Sometimes I'm almost there Sometimes I fly like an eagle And sometimes I'm deep in despair All alone in the universe, sometimes that's how it seems I get lost in the sadness and the screams Then I look in the center, suddenly everything's clear I find myself in the sunshine and my dreams And I'm looking for space And to find out who I am And I'm looking to know and understand It's a sweet, sweet dream Sometimes I'm almost there Sometimes I fly like an eagle And sometimes I'm deep in despair On the road of experience, join in the living day If there's an answer, it's just that it's just that way When you're looking for space And to find out who you are When you're looking to try and reach the stars It's a sweet, sweet, sweet dream Sometimes I'm almost there Sometimes I fly like an eagle But sometimes I'm deep in despair Sometimes I fly like an eagle, Like an eagle I go flying flying
@jenafuller Thank you for your comment, There are many of us who miss JD. He made an impact on a lot of lives all over the world. A true treasure. Thank you Michelle
This is one of my favoutites of his. His voice was a gift from God to us. Thank you John ❤️
When I die I want this song played because it is one of the only songs that ever made me cry and smile at the same time. I love it so much. Thank you John Denver. I believe it is the best song he did.
I had this song on a vinyl album in the 70s. Can never listen to John's music without a tear in my eyes. He was the best.
Best John Denver song!
This song is on the Windsong album from 1975. It is available on CD.
Beautiful. John had such a powerful and clear voice.
I remember being in the psychiatrist's waiting room and this came on the radio in the background. A sad looking woman across from me listened intently to the lyrics and smiled a little, just a little...
You said the same thing 3 years prior to this. And that was 12 years ago... i hope you are doing well nowadays
This one will be played at my funeral. GREAT song.
This has always been one of my favorite John Denver songs. It's the way I feel about myself...
The first time I heard this song, it saved my life. I didn’t feel alone in these same thoughts. Still miss you John 😢❤❤

This is a great song by a unique and incredibly talented guy.
His death is a big loss for all (country)music lovers everywhere.
This song is still one of my favorites because no matter how old we get to be, we are always looking for space. Trying to understand things around us. And the only way that we will truely understand is by experience. Weather it be a good experience or a bad one we have learned something by it.

I love this song as I do so many of JD's beautiful songs, beautiful voice, beautiful soul.
Magical words.. Answers for all situations. Happy and sad. Keeps hope alive always.
I would like this song played at my funeral some day. Spread my ashes on a horse ranch!
No worries, you are not alone. Due to my parents we were already John Denver fans but my brother and I still talk about that Magnum P.I. episode to this day when we hear or play this song!
Awesome blend, very thoughtful application of nice moments of the film with an immortal song.
This was also the theme of an especially memorable episode(2-part) of Magnum P.I. which was an epic show. I watched it as a kid and as an adult have now watched all 8 seasons completely through twice. Have always loved John Denver's music and always will. was thinking of that this morning
One word: Amazing 🤩
I recall being at my lowest point as a young person and being at the psychiatrist's office and this came on the radio in the waiting room. Most poignant song ever. A true spirit of being yourself and independent.
How'd you like to blast this song though the Grand Canyon?
This song absolutely kills me every time I hear it. It brings joy and despair all at the same time.
Very well-put.
John denver is the most talented musician of all time. Just love his songs. His songs always lift me out of my depression. There will never ever be another John denver.
I'd say he's one of the most underrated musicians of all time
how i wish this Guy still alive no ONE make a music and sing like him
this is more that just music, this guy had a spiritual side of him that few understood. He was a very deep person and this song proofs it.

I love John Denver
I saw him once in concert. I wish I could have met him. Losing him was a loss to this world, and a gain to heaven. This is my life song. My life video plays in my mind whenever I hear it. Thank you wonderful God for John Denver.
Henry John hit #29 in Billboard, 4-3-76. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! RIP, John.
I fell in love with this song because of an episode on Magnum P.I.
Thank you for putting one of my favourites to this touching video. John was my friend. I never met him and only saw him once, in concert. But, I gained comfort from knowing he was out there, trying to help us live in a safer, more peaceful world. I miss him but his music still lives in my heart. Thank you for sharing.
This was the "new age" music of the 70's...loved it then...love it now....
This song was my favorite of all time. His songs of the American west were great, but this one seemed more personal.
I first heard this on that Magnum episode too. Wonderful, meaningful song.

OMG, same here! I heard this on Magnum years ago and it has been with me ever since!
John trully lv to fly and the was his passion as many others having to do with our earth

sometimes they even get tears in there eyes..and saying this is beautifull
good music never die's that's all i try too say
Thank you for commenting I am happy that you have enjoyed my video.
On the road of experience, I'm trying to find my own way.
Sometimes I wish that I could fly away
When I think that I'm moving, suddenly things stand still
I'm afraid 'cause I think they always will
And I'm looking for space
And to find out who I am
And I'm looking to know and understand
It's a sweet, sweet dream
Sometimes I'm almost there
Sometimes I fly like an eagle
And sometimes I'm deep in despair
All alone in the universe, sometimes that's how it seems
I get lost in the sadness and the screams
Then I look in the center, suddenly everything's clear
I find myself in the sunshine and my dreams
And I'm looking for space
And to find out who I am
And I'm looking to know and understand
It's a sweet, sweet dream
Sometimes I'm almost there
Sometimes I fly like an eagle
And sometimes I'm deep in despair
On the road of experience, join in the living day
If there's an answer, it's just that it's just that way
When you're looking for space
And to find out who you are
When you're looking to try and reach the stars
It's a sweet, sweet, sweet dream
Sometimes I'm almost there
Sometimes I fly like an eagle
But sometimes I'm deep in despair
Sometimes I fly like an eagle,
Like an eagle
I go flying flying
Great song! Long live Magnum!
I miss you every day, Magnum. P.I.
