  • Like the Groove Life Wallet, the Ögon Slider wallet uses an aluminium plate to slide up and present its cards. Different from the Ekster or SECRID card holder wallets, which use triggers, the slider is more efficient. However, the Ögon Slider is missing a way to carry cash and is looks too similar to the Groove wallet. And then we find out it might be a knockoff! How many more things can we handle!?

    Great review! Because I didn't know anything about Groove before and now I'm very interested. Thanks Ögon

    I recently purchased the Groove Life wallet and they provide a small adhesive patch now that helps with the grip on the front. It even comes with a cardboard template to make sure it's centered. It's a good solution I think that doesn't take away from the aesthetics of the wallet.

    I saw this from your Groove Wallet video & was very interested. I'm heavily disappointed. Cards fall out way too easily & the quality doesn't seem to be there.

    You might want to try a Chums elastic band that has a leather pad on it. You can put that over this slide wallet and it can hold cash for you. Of course if it’s too tight then it causes problems with the slide. But, it is worth a try until Ogon figures out a way to add a cash clip.

    I bought the ogon it's not bad but you have a metal credit card it will slide right out of there if it's upside down. The other cards are kind of loose but at least they stay in there. Wish they would have used rubber instead of felt to keep the cards in. Sucks it didn't come with a money band. My Fidelo wallet came with 4 elastic money bands so I'm just using that on this ogon wallet. I do like the texture this wallet has on some versions so it doesn't well slide around while trying to open it. The groove wallet really should be cheaper imo.

    I have so many wallets, and the one I keep using and going back to is the "Secrid Slimwallet" the leather wrap allows you to put extra. So when I see reviews like this for these types of wallets, I compare and think will this beat my Secrid Slimwallet. The answer is always a no. It is just the ultimate wallet for quick card access and the leather wrap for putting money and extra cards.

    The inability to hold cash isn't a big deal for me, I live in a village in the UK and even here every shop accepts credit cards (covid pushed the few holdouts to accept cards).

  • @bennylloyd-willner9667

    Just ordered one for me and one for my wife. No need to carry cach for us. Even the smallest vendor at a market uses digital payment options and many stores won't accept cach anyway. Sweden seem to be much more cashless than the US.

  • @DavidWolfensperger

    Let it be known: you don't need a wallet to carry cash. Just organize the bills with ones on the outside, fives on the very inside followed by tens, twenties, & larger. This hides the larger bills between smaller bills. Then fold them in half with the ones on the outside; and put it in your front pocket.

  • @kulviks

    dont know if the Slider version that includes room for cash just werent out when you made this review or not, but they have about the same options as the secrid versions does, except for their double wallet versions, and tbh i think the Slider is more a knockoff of Secrid's than grooves wallet, and the groove wallet is also pretty much a knockoff of Secrid, other than that, as long as they have both options for no cash or with cash, i very much prefer the no cash version, since other than a few yearly birthdays never use cash at all and that way my wallet can stay as minimalist as possible.

    as someone who uses (and carries) cash maybe 5 times a year at most, I'd actually much prefer a cardholder with no money clip. I've had one for years that broke a couple days ago, and the money clip felt uncomfortable in my pocket and would often catch against the fabric, which was especially irritating when it's a feature I don't even use.
    It's a shame Ögon used such a backhanded business tactic against Groove though

    It's not a knock off of Groove wallet. Actually, all these pop up box wallets with lever are knock offs of Secrid wallet. They just tried to avoid the utility patent of secrid, but they all copied the lever of secrid to pop out cards. secrid wallet is way better than groove wallet, the groove wallet is a knock off as well.

    • @chriswu4057
      @chriswu4057 Před 2 lety +1

      I already had a wallet which had the same ejection system 5 years ago, so I can confirm that the groove just copied another wallet. I know the groove wallet company paid a bunch of influencers to promote their knock off wallets. But still it's a knock off and not worth the money.

    • @walletopia
      @walletopia  Před 2 lety +1

      I consider a knockoff to be a true duplication, not something similar. As an example, the Grip6 wallet, a metal box wallet, which has a trigger on the side, has been patented since 2012, a few years after the SECRID patent. If the artwork was substantially the same, the patent would not have gone through. That said, patents are only good as their first successful defense in court. I own a few patents which have been ripped off by others. A slider plate versus a trigger is vastly different and the fact it has a metal box to carry something goes back to prior art into the 1800's. So by your logic the SECRID is a knockoff. Honestly, everything in a broad definition is a knockoff of something else, but practically speaking, incremental improvements are considered unique, unless they're considered "substantially" the same (very subjective), by the courts.

    • @chriswu4057
      @chriswu4057 Před 2 lety +2

      @@walletopia Thanks for the response, I mean the groove wallet is not the inventor of this kind of pop-out wallet, they copied the concept of another wallet. I checked other review videos on youtube. The inside structure of the groove wallet is the same as the wallet I had 5 years ago. The only difference is that the wallet I had has a slider button on the plate instead of a whole slider plate. That's why I call it a knock off. Btw, I have a secrid wallet since 2015 and I'm still using it. Secrid wallet is the king of this kind of pop-out mechanism wallet. There are a bunch of pop-put wallets with a different type of trigger or slider button whatever in the market from $10-30. For $100? I'm sorry. In my personal opinion, the groove wallet is definitely not worth the money. Anyway, thanks for your review, I love to see more.

    • @walletopia
      @walletopia  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks Chris, I agree. The one thing I really like about SECRID is they're constantly updating their trigger/lifter mechanism to make it more resilient and recoverable if it gets jammed, etc. I've been tempted to pull out the slider mechanisms from several of these wallets and do a video on them as they do differ a bit. I find the engineering on them to be simple, but fascinating considering the 10's of thousands of uses they get.

    I prefer no money clip. I keep cards in one pocket and cash in the other (in a plain old money clip). I carry a good bit of cash in 20s, 10s, 5s and 1s. It makes for a bulky pile that doesn't work well with any minimalist card wallet.
    Why? Well think about it. Most of insist on RFID protection, but then many people go to a restaurant and hand their card to a complete stranger that walks away with it for 10 minutes. Really folks???
    I pay cash at restaurants and anywhere I can. Less chance of getting hacked.
    Also, some people that I pay with cash are very happy about it. They're responsible for paying their taxes. Ahem...
