Was grinding this thing for about an hour... couldn't catch, or wouldn't spawn. Finally got one to show hearts. As I'm in the middle of serenading... Naja gets its ultimate and turns everything into stone. Yup. Ragequit for the day.
Instead of having to use gateway, you can simply travel to The Temple of Trials, then just fly up to the location. That way you won't have to go through loading screens. I have indeed tried this, and it worked. This is sort of like the trick to farm TokoToko's, travel to Perdida, run all the way to the end. If you don't see a TokoToko throughout the whole path, simply travel back to Perdida. Rinse and repeat. Also I would recommend the Viel spell too.
Gonna respond to this 9 year old comment. An even faster way is to just get back on Tengri, fly over the mountains to the north, then back. The enemies respawn.

I've also spent so much time trying to catch Tokotoko (no luck yet but at least I get a level up when I fight toko). I'm gonna catch Dino now! LOL I thought you needed a familiar ticket for this one, because this familiar looks cool :)
The taming in this game is pretty much all chance. There are some familiars that you would think would be hard to tame like the Tokos i ended up taming after 2 tries. And Dinosaurus i tamed 2 easily. Than you have others like oriborus and weaker monsters for some side quest that somehow took hour upon hours of frustration and moving the story along than coming back later before i tamed the familiar i needed. It does not feel balanced at all and to add to the frustration you may get the hearts above a familiar, but one of your party members is in a special attack animation. Even though you're playing the song to tame it, your process will get canceled by the party member's attack cutscene finishing before your tame, so now that familiar you spent hours trying to get is lost once again after finally getting the hearts. Even the Jack of Hearts feels like it does little differences. Its a major flaw with the mechanic that made it more frustrating than fun in my opinion.
Surprisingly only took 45 minutes and captured on 27th kill.I was ready to spend atleast 3 hours trying to capture this I love Ni No Kuni too much to not give it my all. This was without the % increase merit as well.
funny how this is one of the best dps familars in the game, although i have the dlc ticket and griffy is just a monster and can be gotten as early as the first time you go to the desert palace for the trials, so id recommend getting him/her early although it makes the game stupidly easy.

any tips on a magic using falimaer that can use field heals and magic? (hits and heals everyone). right now i got a neriad not sure how good it is tho.
I have a question I defeated Dinoceros 14 times now and I already have the Jack of Hearts but it seems to be not helping me at all. I haven't been encountering the heart signals in any familiars that i defeat. Is this some kind of bug or something?
Did they change the spawn rates cause I watched this video went to Genie Step and one was there right there. The first one also gave me the heart and I caught it in about 30 seconds from going to Genie Step
I thought the easy way to get them to respawn was to use travel to go to al mamoon and just fly back, I have not tried this but it works for tokotoko respawns and perdida
I've been trying to catch this guy early before I get the Jack o Hearts merit award... haven't had any luck! >< I can find one or two easily, but I can never get the chance to serenade them. Meanwhile I've serenaded every other familiar on the Genie Steps, no joke. D=
ive been doing it for literally an hour and have only gotten 1. i wanted to get another for esther because she's complete trash and wanted to see if it would help her out but i eventually just gave up on getting another one.
I Have been struggling since yesterday to tame this freaking familiar, lols...also the familiar errands are sooo time consuming. The only thing i focus on in the xp gained when it takes so long.
Don't know how, but the first one I encountered, I was able to capture, I spent 20 minutes just trying to get the damn thing to spawn, and by some miracle I was able to befriend it... however I plan on capturing 2 more, something tells me I won't get this lucky a 2nd or 3rd time.
lol yea ive beaten the game already, ive actually already moved on to bioshock infinite(with full intentions of returning to ni no kuni to defeat the ultimate boss). I thought the griffy was cheap but later on griffy gets pretty weak, but not the dino. that thing is a freaking monster xD

@@zrex2metagor coz usually the Japanese voice acting is better, I've yet to find a jrpg that actually has good English voice acting in it, and I play alot of JRPG's. Tales of vesperia and tales of Beseria has a decent English voice cast alright now to be fair
This was easier with only 11 defeated and 1 died before i could tame it It was harder to get a Wisp with 39 defeated and even 1 of them died before i could tame and Shrimpaler with 68 defeated !
Lol i Learned quickly that it's better to deal with the healing yourself. now what i've beaten the game, i have to warn you if you haven't done so already. If you want a challange, for gods sake don't get those pets lol. when fully evolved and with levels as low as 20, my two dinos utterly godstomped everything! and they barely take any damageO_o i hurt they were strong but i wasn't expecting them to be so godlike lol.
hell all the characters aside from the prince of himlin are pretty weak. at least the prince can dish out moderate damage with his spells. Esther and swine are worthless for the most part unless you have good familiars for them, and even then their AI's seem to be shot to hell>_< not sure if it's my bad luck, but ester seems to sink all her MP into attacks even when i tell her to focus on HEALING:(
I caught one in the first encounter. Then I caught another one so that I can develope both of their final stages, the Catastroceos and the Demoliceros. It was worth it, i totally destroyed all the following bosses.

No offense but people who play the game more than a few minutes know how to tame creatures - it is an in-game tutorial so why should he mention it again? Thats like mentioning which stick to use to move around... Everyone knows how to tame creatures + he gave the advice with the Jack of Hearts Merit & the gateway trick so at what point was the video not helpful? I don't get some people, seriously...

I used to see these guys all the time before i had Tengi, now that i have Tengi... none spawn at all... Whelp!

you can even tame his evolved form in the final dungeon. Just much rarer as I saw it only a few times and never on the field.

I love hoe Nightcap has the best stats in the game and it's so easy to catch a Napcap (25% tame rate)

Got it on my second try but then I killed him by mistake... 2 hours later, I got him again.
it took me 50+ tries to catch bonehead, but it took me only one try to catch dinoceros.. sometimes lucky.
Same took me forever for bonehead too but 5 encounter to catch one dinoceros

That's why I just use Esther as my main. And focus on healing Oliver cause his ai isn't all that stupid but sometimes it can be
