Another tip : as soon as you unlock the dragon, you can fly north of carabas. There's an area with monster at the top top of the map. The biggest monsters (grorignal in french) will drop a bottle of nostrum, item that restor all the mp. If not strong enough to defeat it, just steal the nostrum, then escape the fight.
It is very usefull as you will never be able to buy nostrum.

Another tip: Pay attention to the celestial signs (Sun,star, moon, planet) and know what are their strength and weaknesses. Each sign has a double version which are more stronger than normal. Planet and double-planet are the most rare so if you happen to encounter familliar with this sign, make sure to tame it.
Another thing, some characters are better with certain types of familliar so pay attention to their types and partner them where they belong so that they become more powerful to the game.

A good tip that got me through this game was having a tank for each character (i.e.Bighorn for Oliver early, Anglerfish for Maru and the tombstone for Gyro) and always keep the AI away from using skills. The AI in this game is atrocious and will get itself killed and waste mp non stop. Best way to remedy this is having a tank on them. They won't be of much use in battle but at least they won't be much of a hindrance cause they will be using the tank most often than not. It's also good to keep a physical and magical attacking familiar for when you get to control them or have them go all out.

    • @Piggly8w8
      @Piggly8w8 Před 4 lety +2

I fully agree with this tip, so far I've only used Monolith and Lumberwood as tanks and they help a TON. They keep the two characters you aren't using alive much longer and distract the bosses so you can deal a ton of damage with glass cannons, tanks are a necessity in my mind

Secret Tip: Once you got the flying dragon go and capture the Dino Rawr familiar and level him up so
#1: even the final boss wont kill you. (1 damage at level 5 3rd form.)
#2: you will save yourself from throwing the controller when the battle system fucks you up every now and then coz this game is either grind or get beaten.
And after that just sit back, relax and enjoy this wonderful game.

You can look at your map in the companion thing to see where treasures are. They will be x spots on the drawing, you just have to go to the spot on the world map. You can get a head start on some good items early on and you don't need the find treasure spell. Also, make sure you talk to people. I went most of the game in the ps3 version missing a batch of recipes because I didn't talk to the NPC that gives it to you until much later. The AI is atrocious no matter what you do so you kinda have to work around that. Getting defensive, offensive and magical familiars help in that regard.

Essential tip: have a diverse team comp one tanker one dps and one magic preferably all with different symbols (This makes the game incredibly easy and fun to do)
It doesn't matter which familiar you'll main since the game is pretty forgiving no matter what you choose
Don't overfarm, seriously it makes you over powered and all but it makes battle extremely one sided (especially with dinoceros with earsplitter) preferably farm until you're either 2-3 levels ahead of the familiars in the area
BUY THE JUMPING JACK MERIT STAMP I can't stress enough how important this is for the entire playthrough since sometimes traversing the world gets boring but making oliver jump every 2 secs makes it all the time worth it
Do Alchemy, Craft items like swords and shields especially early on since it's a fun way to get your familiars strong equipment for free without going to those annoying shops over and over again which leads me to my next one which is to collect items as much as you can since those are needed in either quests or alchemy
Kick Drippy whenever possible and try to make a break for it
Personally this is the most funniest thing you'll do when going inside a dungeon as you try to outrun drippy
Lastly, enjoy the game's scenery and over all vibe. This game ain't darksouls nor is it a time based rpg
You can legit take either a week or months to finish this depending on how you enjoy the game

Also a useful trick for making money, is playing Platoon in the Casino. Unlike all the other games it’s not completely based on luck so with a bit of practice you can end up winning big. Exchanging that for the item that gives everyone 200 HP and then selling that makes a lot of money. (And yes it may seem counterintuitive to not buy the sages secret but if I remember correctly the math checks out and you win more buy buying the 200 HP one)

For those playing the PS3 version of the game, Tip #5 is especially useful as you can do a dupe glitch involving wiping out that allows you to sell your Great Sage's Secret, wipe out and get a Game Over, use the option to continue(losing 10% of your guilders) and the Great Sage's Secrets will be back in your inventory. Do this a million times to get the 500,000 guilders needed to get the trophy. It works on the hard PS3 copy due to a bug in the PS3's memory, but it's not known whether the PS3 version you stream on PS+ works that way. (You also have to do some item menu manipulation to ensure the Great Sage's Secrets are in the right spot.) The remastered version for PS4 cannot use this dupe glitch as the remaster patched out the memory problem.

Kinda wish I'd gotten this earlier. That said, I knew a good majority of the game before I got the game itself. I didn't have a PS3 when I first discovered it back in 6th grade, so I figured I'd never get a chance to play it myself. And then the Switch version plopped itself into my life just as I got the Switch😂

Here's my Beat The Game Tip / Platinum Tip / Merit Award tips
If you plan just to beat the game, just do tips 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Tip 1: Play the game until the part you start capturing Familiars. (Be sure to get Jack-Be-Nimble and Jackpot as the two firsts merit awards).
Tip 2: Backtrack to Ding Dong Well, capture 2 Danglerfishes (these dudes hits like truck).
Tip 3: Keep progressing the game and capture Purrloiner and Monolith (both near Castway Cove).
Tip 4: After you get the boat, immediately capture 1 or 2 Lumberwood (located in No Longer Mine).
Tip 5: Keep progressing the game until you can fly over the world (Tengri), Fly north of Al Mamoon and land in The Genie Steps and capture TWO Dinoceros. Having two of these DeusExMachine will break the game and save you a lot of time in farming items / stealing items / farming exp / farming orbs / farming & Capturing familiars
    Tip 6: Do all sidequests
    Tip 7: Profit
I consider this as beginner tips and also as a "platinum tip". I plat'ed the game so freaking fast (In my first time playing on ps3 back in 2014, I got the platinum with 99hs of gameplay. Doing the strategy above I got the platinum with 54hs).
    ------
    Order to get merit award:
Tier 1: Jack-Be-Nimble / Jackpot / Little Jack Horner / Jack in the Box / Jumping Jack / Jolly Jack Tar
    Tier 2: Jack-O'-Lantern / Jackpot II / Cheapjack / Crackerjack / Flapjack / Jack-at-a-Pinch
    Tier 3: Jack of Hearts / Jack-O'-Lantern II / Jack-of-All-Trades / the rest doesn't matter

If you read the Book, you will be able to know where the hidden treasures are, that book contain tons of stuff you can use to your advantage, like how to make Strong coffeefrom Ice coffee and springwater, which save you a lot of money early game.

If anyone has grabbed the game from the most recent Nintendo sale a tip I learned myself was as Mr. Drippy best puts it; Read your wizards compendium! I know you came here to play a RPG game but trust me there are a lot of things you can learn from that book that are helpful and can keep you 4 steps ahead of game mechanics and lore! There are even great stories to read if you just need a break and a good read.

I had played this a while back and was looking for videos on the Dragon Quest 3 remake and saw this. Went to the PlayStation store and guess what? It’s 80% off till the end of the money of April. The 13th-27th it’s only $9.99 (American) comes out to $10.69 after taxes and well worth it. I’m super psyched to play this remaster!
