Shakespeare was so sassy
Good Hamlet translation
Literally word for word. I see no difference sire 😂
Also this is my favorite thing. "You can't even play fucking hot cross buns on a recorder but you think you cna play me rude"
This is the very first Hamlet, that I trully understood, kept me on my toes and moved me to tears. Andrew Scott is an absolute genius.
YOOO im so glad you commented this! Right??? It was like years of truly trying to get it, getting most of it, and having the rest blurry was lifted. He truly truly spoke, moved, everything he did breathed life into the words. Ive never in my life understood it soooo clear, and saw the passion.I thought Kenneth Branagh did a beautiful job too! But Andrew honestly made this real
I found this too! I think I found the very era-heavy set and costume design alienating. I found it easier to connect to a more modern, simplistic, contemporary take. Coupled with Andrew Scott's acting, of course -- and WOAH! Never have I been able to appreciate Shakespeare's genius so fully, and connect to Hamlet's character so tangibly.
@@AmbieWolfie I'd recommend Hamlet 2009 with David Tennant and Patrick Stewart, that was the first Hamlet I could connect with and Tennants Hamlet is like nothing I've seen before. His version of this scene was outstanding. It's also a more modern take on Hamlet.
SAME!!!!!! It is a travesty that I didn’t get to see this production : I have watched these clips so many times.
@@PhyzikTalks Yeah, tennants was incredible
This is actually making the language comprehensible.
Shakespeare comparing the way we seek thoughts from humans to how we seek music from instruments... I couldn't help but reflect on it and mutter "that is just... genius".
Scott is the best hamlet i've ever seen
He's not trying to hard. He's just a broken man dealing with a broken heart
I love how Hamlet is such a iconic character that everyone must make him his own, Branagh's was manic, Scott's was melancholic, a version I saw in Boston was somewhat comedic. Actors to claim originality they must differentiate roles from each other and by doing this give depth an life to a 400 year old character. All of Shakespeare's characters are like this, and because of this Shakespeare will never die.
this is the least 'acted' version i've ever seen. past versions were all heavy with gravitas and melodrama and more than a little bombastic self importance. but this, this is just andrew scott losing his mind in the voice of a prince of denmark wracked with self doubt.
I fucking LOVED this version's Guildenstern! The actress added so much depth to the character with her choices - I remember a scene earlier, I can't remember quite at which point, where she realises just how broken her old, dear friend has become and she just starts silently crying in the background. She genuinely wants to help her friend and doesn't know how to, and eventually becomes another tragic pawn in the game Hamlet and Claudius are playing.
andrew scott has a weird way of making me think of hamlet as an actual character and not just someone to laugh at (in my defense, this scene is usually really funny)
I don't think i've ever seen an actor repress his emotions like that. It's like I can feel his desire to yell and scream at her but his manners give him pause. Andrew Scott is so talented.
Scott is, unabashedly , the most ‘modern’ hamlet I’d ever seen. He conveys the language in a way that makes it sound less dated than I’d ever heard it. He actively defies the tropes laden in the usual rhythms of the language and understands the it to the extent that at every moment you can almost see their modern subtitles under his interpretation and within its subtexts. Beyond the emotional depth he gave it, which is also his own, it was an incredible, not to mention a daring way to interpret the role. Not to say he’s the only person whose ever cracked it, (I’ve seen Mckellan do Shakespeare in a way which did similar things to the text though even Ian still felt more classical) but If more actors approached it this way, then more people would understand Shakespeare generally in an age where more and more view those plays as encoded. I’m glad to be reminded of his performance online. Didn’t realize it had been filmed 😊
I keep watching bits and pieces from this play because I know I won't be able to handle this amount of emotions in its full form.
THOUGH YOU CAN FRET ME, YOU CANNOT PLAY UPON ME
By hook or by crook - I will eventually see this entire version of the play, one two minute clip at a time. Amazing interpretation of Hamlet.
Haha sammme, it’s been years of it now! I keep thinking ‘oh this again’ and I keep ending up just amazed
i have a version on google drive if u want i can send it on!
Omg please do share it!!

"do you think I am easier to play on than a pipe?" is my absolute favourite line in Hamlet. So disheartening.
Knowing that Andrew Scott is often asked to play maniacs, and the usual take on this is hurt& angry, I was expecting him to go wild, but boy... this is crushing.
What I don't get, is why the woman (can't tell R from G for the life of me) is saying her lines as if she were in so much pain, it's so extra. Also, it would imply she knew what was going on...
The other one though, was suitability slimy. Very disgusting.
I see Guildenstern as saying her lines as if she's in pain because she's concerned about her lord who is maybe losing his mind. She is a little afraid for her safety.
My take is that she is playing Guildenstein as a person with uneasy conscience as she is not 100% honest with him, but also someone who is watching her friend turn into someone she does not know - someone unhinged and unpredictable. Instead of a chat between friends, it's turned into an interrogation and she is scared.
Scott is so good at portraying the anger and apathy of a man in emotional distress.
when he does it, he actually expresses the humanity of the character.
This man IS Hamlet. Such pain, such passion, such madness.... electrifying
Ophelia , oh my god, how wonderful is that Ophelia!
It´s not Ophelia, its Guildenstern
Ophelia was played by Jessica Brown Findlay
His arms ...💕
To be fair it's only two minutes of AS' Hamlet; but they're spot on and very grand indeed X
This is so good.
just wow..
Ouah. C'est brillant. Cet art me mets en émois, vraiment.
Prince Des Pingouins c'est vrai que c'est brillant. :)
Hamlet is poetically smart!
👏👏👏
HE İS THE GOD OF ACTING
He is probably born with thousands of skills and a charming voice and look.
Andrew is the best of all times
Where can I watch this whole thing?
@@louise221b I think I love you
Great!! Has he done Richard II??
Holy Shit
damn sherlock and moriarty both played hamlet
was looking forward to seeing this comment lol
This is absurdly good, you don't even need know Shakespeare to know this is good. You could show this to a class of idiots and they would be spellbound, spellbound and silent. Shakespeare is universal.
I love you
Where am i watch that all??
First Sherlock and then Moriarty doing Hamlet 😮
where can i watch this full?
who played Rozencrants and Guildenstern?
Clearly this is from a complete, carefully shot, subcaptioned video of the entire play.
Where IS it?
I'm wondering where to find it too, i would be willing to buy it, but i can't seem to find a copy of it anywhere. Let me know if you ever stumble upon it.

Madelyn Mackintosh Hi ! Can I ask you if you can ,please, share the link with me too? I would love to see the whole play :)
Yes, same here. It would mean a lot.
@@madelynmackintosh I would love that file too if I could!
@@madelynmackintosh Hi ! I would love it as well !
I love Scott and his hamlet is excellent...But Hamlet and this scene in particular is not supposed to be so dark at all times... I have to say I just love How David Tennant does this scene...from the comedy to the dark turn he takes... feels more natural than this.
I jimmy tabor stay confused
Shakespearean dialogue can be so corny and overly theatrical sounding but Andrew actually managed to make it sound natural and believable
Corny? It's over 400 years old, you can't judge it by the standards of modern language.
brain small me not understand
Theyre are terrific actors, but this sounds like oblivion npc doilgue
noooooo hahaha
Andrew Scott reminds me of an Irish Mark Ruffalo. I also noticed that Scott uses his arms and hand gestures to emphasis his deranged state of mind. I don't find his performance of Hamlet very convincing.
He's utterly embarrassing
Meh. I like Andrew Scott but this is ... not great
