Congrats on your thruhike, the ALT is a beast! Y’all did great! One thing to note for others watching, the “piped spring” you got water from at deep gap road was just a drainage pipe. The actual piped spring at deep gap is a white pvc pipe around 1-2” in diameter. Safer to drink from the spring vs a drain pipe, even filtered.
Thanks! This is good info for future hikers. :) Others had warned us it was dry and we looked but never found the white pipe, only the drainage pipe (which was dry). Apparently the shelter (which no longer exists) use to point to the water source as it's known to be a bit tricky to find. Thankfully we did find a little pocket of water where a stream or creek most likely runs through when there's water. It took a bit, but we were all able to fill up. :)
@@SovereignAdventures yes, I did the ALT a year ago, and there was graffiti inside it that pointed to the water! It would be very hard to find without the shelter as a reference. This summer and fall have been sooo dry. Makes it tough on an already dry trail like the ALT. Enjoyed your videos!
