  • Nottingham attack victim Barnaby Webber's mum said yesterday that 'murderers are getting away with murder.' Emma's son Barnaby was killed in the Nottingham attacks last summer. The killer,
Valdo Calocane, pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility and he was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order.
The victim's families are calling for an overhaul in the laws around homicide. Emma Webber is now advocating for a three tier system, meaning people with mental illness who kill like Valdo Calocane, could still be convicted of second degree murder.

He has not gone to hospital. Look up Ashworth secure unit. Its a prision with the facilities to handle dangerous individuals. I feel for the victims and the family, but this is semantics. The law works in substance.

To say he's not under any form of punishment isn't true, psychiatric detention is as much if not more severe, though it could benefit the culprit more to be held legally accountable too. Revenge doesn't relieve grief, nor would changing the wording of the law improve psychiatric interventions. Take some time to grieve.

It’s desperately sad her son was killed. I can’t imagine what she’s going through and wouldn’t wish that in anyone. This feels like she wants revenge by wanting him in a prison not a psychiatric hospital, and in my reading it won’t help her with her grief.

She has all the hallmarks of being a bitter, angry woman who is only interested in revenge. The guy was mentally ill and he is going to be held indefinitely in a psychiatric hospital. The courts shouldn’t be sending mental cases to prison anyway
