    Instructions for The SWING!
We bought some maple live-edge boards (thick cut) from a local dealer and selected one that fit the size we were going for.
We prepped the maple by first sanding the edges and corners down using an orbital sander - since we’ll be sitting on this, we wanted it not to have any sharp corners. We then went over it again with the same orbital sander and some fine-grit sandpaper to smooth it out.
We then put several layers of the polyacrylic clear coat all over the board.
Once dried, we drilled 3 holes in each side of the board where the rope will be tied. We did three holes because there are three main strands in large rope we purchased. You will see later on in the video how these tie into the seat. We made the holes just big enough to fit each strand.
Next, we purchased a tire swing swivel (large for playgrounds) on Amazon along with some S-hooks to attach the swivel to the rope. We attached the swivel to one of the bridge beams using some lag bolts-as large a size as would fit through the swivel holes. We then attached the S-hooks.
We then folded the rope in half and attached the rope to the swivel at the fold. There were 3 S-hooks and 3 strands within the rope, so we just attached one strand to each hook. Worked out perfectly.
Once we got the rope on, we took a 2X4 that had sat in the sun for several months prior (found it outside in the back yard), and cut it to the same length as the swing seat, then drilled two large holes on both ends, large enough to pull the entire rope through. This would become the upper support for the swing (to keep the ropes spread apart).
We threaded each side of the board with the rope and pulled it up as high as it would go. In order to keep the board from sliding back down the rope, we took some smaller rope and wrapped it around the board/rope and even threaded the smaller rope through the center of the larger rope to keep the board from moving. We wrapped it tight then tied it off. Tip - use a clamp on the other rope to keep that side from sliding down.
    Repeat the other side
Next, we unraveled the rope ends until we reached about the height of the swing. You may need to have your children model sitting for you while you determine the right height for them. We first threaded the 6 strands through each hole (3 on each side). It took some time to get the height just right, but once we got it to where we wanted it we went ahead and tied off the three strands under the seat. Might take some adjustments to get the seat just right and level.
The last step is to take the two rope ends (under the seat) and completely unravel the strands, so that they flare out.
We then took some extra rope (left over when we first cut the rope to size), tied it to the swing ropes (both sides), and unraveled/flared the rope to give it some extra pop.
To finish everything off, we took some hotglue and just glued all the cut ends or frayed parts of the rope to keep it from fraying.
We hope you enjoyed this video, please stay tuned for more fund videos like these ones!
