One of the best vlogging cameras I've ever tried, amazing autofocus, realistic stabilization, fun features like slow mo, great colour science, light, flippy screen, what's not to love?

I hope the upcoming camera is a fuji xt4 so youll get another loaner from viltrox (23mm 1.4) then compare with the eos r 35mm 1.8.
What would you recommend for a vlogger to purchase? I've been seeing all of your videos and can't make a decision for something under 1,000? I would've picked this one, but the wide lens aspect is not adequate unless I have a stick. Thank you!!
Dont forget to appy that crop to the F stop for blur and low light noise. Sony F1.8 then becomes F2.3...

I am impressed by your detailed calculations. However you missed one crucial detail, Sony understood that if they made the lens a 16mm equivalent, you would not need to put it on that long ass selfie stick which attracts so many people to interrupt the vlog, adding interesting content which would not normally be present for so many vloggers such as yourself.

Sony just recycled a lens they already had on the shelf. They were just too lazy to redesign a new lens. What happened in that Sony boardroom? What does "Stacey" think about all this?

R&D is f**king expensive.
They wanted the cheapest/best vlogging camera on the market. This was a sacrifice.
They fixed a lot of the issues I had with it on the ZV-E10 for almost the same price. I don’t know which I’ll stick with tho.

I really like that you haven’t gave up on reviewing this camera. A lot of video reviewers didn’t give it enough drive test time and jumped into conclusions right away. I’m getting more convinced that I should buy it thanks to you!

TheFullMonte Right, but I’m not planning to use it for vlogging in the streets, that’s just one of many other uses. It’s a minimalist setup for decent home video recordings and casual photography. I’ll like to use it for live streaming as well . I THINK Sony is looking into that.

Also you need to shoot in 4K so that people can fully appreciate the resolution on their tiny phones screens.

Thanks for the humor and math!
For the 3 cons:
1) Short battery life: use the Ulanzi BG-2 hand grip. 6800mAh battery with charging 5V/2A. Solves for requiring 4-5 spare batteries and opening the battery door in one. Only con is there is no LED to show how much battery is in the hand grip. I just charge it fully before using or with a power bank if I forget onsite;
2) Battery door cannot be accessed with a tripod/selfie stick/gimbal. I use the Uurig hand grip (or cage) that moves the 1/4” female mount away. This way you can access the battery door if needed;
3) 33mm wide with 4k and stabilization crop. I use a Zomei 0.45x ultra-wide adapter that gets you back to: 33x0.45=14.85mm. Quality is poor but you can crop in to avoid chromatic aberration and vignetting. Good enough for vlogging but not for b-roll or paid work. Hopefully Freewill or Polar Pro or someone will make a quality ultra-wide lens adapter for these vlogging/pocketable cameras and we don’t need the wide lens, 16-55mm. Doing a redesign will drive prices up and although people will say they will pay for it, they probably won’t (or not as much) and complain it is too wide. Canon, Pana, and Sony uses 24mm probably for a reason to avoid redesign and/or high cost. Only Nikon had one in the past but I don’t think it ever made it to market.

Is there a hands free version vlog setup consists of a long overhead stick with a upsidedown gimbal and this zv1 ? The stick connects to the backpack support system via a 1/4 or 3/8. That would be cool
Im buying the zve10 Im worried about how the internet warns about camera fungus , is it a high maintenance camera? Do i need to store it in a dry cabinet?
You should do a comparison against the Sony X3000 (with accurate focus).
Have you tested an a6400/a6600 with the 10-18 lens. I’m curious if the dual camera and lens stabilization would be decent. Specifically my thought would be the 6600. Then you have plenty of battery, great autofocus and at least the flip up screen. Question would be if the stabilization would be good enough cause we know ibis in Sony isn’t enough.

Could you test this with the wide angle lenz adapter?
I think it all comes down to what sort of vlogger you are. If you mainly do pieces to camera while walking, yes, it'll be too tight. If you only need to do the occasional piece to camera and mostly turn the camera around to show people what you're seeing, well, then you might have your camera. Plus the compromise at the wide end doesn't seem so bad when you then have short medium tele range to bring up distant detail - something you can't do with an action cam, but you can with this, in a package that will still shoot better quality footage than a GoPro but is not that much bulkier or heavier. APSC with a flippy screen? Sounds like the XT4 is in da house to me!

Sony needs to recall this camera and make the lens wider if Sony really want to get huge sale with this camera, because wide lens is the key of vlogging camera.

I want to find out if the Lensmate stick-on filter ring made for the RX100 V fits this lens. If it does, it will be worth trying out a wide angle conversion lens on it.

Well done. My opinion for Sonys lens choice is so they can sell more of the “ Vlogger Accessory Kit” (tripod) its needed for a wider shot.

So we're dealing with a 1" sensor, i.e. a 2.7x crop, with then an additional 1.3x-abouts crop, so it's more like 3.5x in the real world.. damn that's terrible
My guess is you going to do another fuji XT4 review next? The one you did with Mr Undo wasn't with a production model so you defo need to go there again. I mean, I have the XT3 but think it might just be the perfect camera

The M6 II has no flippy screen (I know because I own it)? There is only one APS-C camera with a flippy: X-T4.

@@tylertrudeau4329 He's tried it already and doesn't like it. But he replied to me that he'd never tried the M6, either version. We'll see soon enough. The Mark II could be sweet with the Sigma EF-M 16mm F/1.4. I'm considering that combo myself.

I wish we could mod this camera to a 16mm prime. Like how there are companies that mod gopros for different lenses.
They can't make it perfect the first time round. Look at how it still uses usb 2.0. They will give you USB-C in mark II. Then a wider lens in III. Open up the aperature in IV. That's why we have 7 gen of the RX100 already.

I agree, Sony made a capital mistake with the too narrow lens.
20mm FF equivalent including active stabilisation would be great. Maybe you can glue on a 0.7x (35->24) wide angle lens adaptor? 0r a 0,5 for an 18mm look.
Finally you found a use for that full frame monstrosity... Making the camera in the background so murky and fuzzy we can't tell what it is. 😉

I’m not really much of a vlogger, but the reason I was compelled enough to preorder the ZV-1 was the fact that it has the same gyro metadata as the $10K FX9. That means you can use that amazing Catalyst Browse stabilization after the fact. It’s crazy that this has that same tech as the FX9 when none of the Alphas have it. I’m not sure why that doesn’t get mentioned more.
Can you explain more. I have no idea about lens stuff. Is is the shorter the mm on lens the wider the shot? I am trying to get a camera with a budget of $800 that can work in dim light, so there still is light, but it's dim. I lift in an old gym that is rough. However, NFL players have come out of that gym. Also my apartment, as with most, are on the dimmer side. I don't intend to vlog per say. Just talk videos and gym workouts. Like the bench press etc. I want to blurr the background at times to make the talker or lift more clear. All this is video focused. I do believe my cell phone is great for pictures. I lost an organ and almost died twice, regained back body mass, so I want to help others as well gym interview talks.
So my price range is the zv-1, cannon m50s, or the zv-e10. Maybe there is another that beats these that I am unaware.
The most I know about lenses is the F. So an f1.4 causes more blurr than say a higher, "F". Maybe this is aperture and I am not good with lens talk. My degree is in science and certified in epidemiology and genetics with clinicals in wound care, cardio, skilled nursing facility, and medical surgery. I just know filmora wondershare to edit, so I have zero color grade knowledge. Sorry this is long, but if I want a response, I figure to go into a little detail. I want to bring fitness and over coming illness back to youtube, not just steroid talk or steroid drama. I have the education and experience to do it. I just need to do it much much better on the audio and footage side.

I started wondering if I was watching a Gerald Undone video based on how technical you were getting.
Have you tried using the Sony post stabilisation software? It's actually pretty savage. There are a couple of yt vids up already showcasing it... You can basically use zero peripherals and still get perfectly stable footage.
Sadly I believe that camera to the side is the Canon 90D or some nikonian aeration. Whatever it is - it has a eye viewer bump ruling out m6 - flippy screen ruling out most sony and markings on the left of the camera ruling out the M50. It looks like an RP but that's not APSC - dare it be a DLSR? How could you?

Keep in mind, stabilized in 4k, you are at a 32mm equivalent, but your f/1.8 is really closer to f/3.2 because if the sensor size. Another words you might as well be on the eos r as you will be brighter, faster, with more toneh.

I have 2 compacts & both have them s..t 24mm lens were you need arms of 1.2 mtr,s long; people do notice you out & about vlogging straight away & you may look like a blind man at distance, LOL...Great Video thoroughly enjoyed...

I hate to handheld a camera, much better with a little tripod or in this case which you can use, a selfiestick. So yeah its a perfect vlog camera. This one is going to sell alot, but i think the price should have been a bit lower. Simple because that canon m50 seems to sell ALOT this days...
