I think you're thinking of the smaller version of this. There is the regular Swanson dinner and then this larger Hungry man version.

I never cut the plastic or remove anything if I have these. I just leave the plastic on, microwave it for 5 1/2 minutes and it's fine. 😆 Always tastes better cooked in the oven though.

Stouffer's frozen dinners are the best. Don't know why they stop selling them in Canada.
Apparently Nestlé the maker of Stouffer's decided to focus more on the ice cream market in Canada so they removed Stouffer's, Delissio, Bistro and the other entrées.
When we had TV Dinners growing up they were in foil trays with a tinfoil top you cut to vent. They were a lot better quality then (like most things) & a treat! Then they went to a plastic cover & it all went downhill from there.
Two bland, white meats buried in an overbearing BBQ sauce that makes them taste the same! WTF.
We used to pick some up at the Safeway at Dakota & St. Mary's, better prices there & the IGA that followed.
I know that store well.

The Potatoes in these things really turned to shite. I was used to the rubber meat so that's not changed.

i remember my dad making tv dinners for us in the early 80s. the foil tray and cover which had to go in the oven. they were sooo good and of course you ate them while watching tv. they were a new thing. i love any tv dinner. watching you smash that was painful to watch.

These things have changed a lot over the years, especially recently they seem to have completely changed suppliers on almost every item and some of them taste completely different. Not sure if they were ever that good, I still like to eat them now and then.

I've had this a few times, mainly because of the pork cutlet. The chicken is alright, but the pork cutlet is the main reason I buy it. The rest of it is garbage imo. Also, you said that the meat is rubbery, I don't think the pork is rubbery. I think that's the chicken. The pork is pretty soft, I think. Maybe you got the meat mixed up.
I like the Hungey Man Salisbury Steakettes. It tastes Decent. 7/10. 😊

I'll eat one in a pinch but ya gotta use some salt. pepper and butter. Oh yea you got hosed on the price. Walmart often has them for $3.48 at that price point it's semi worth it as it fills the gut for cheap.

I know inflation and food costs are super complicated, but I've also become more and more disillusioned with Superstore in the past few years, which is why I'm looking for alternatives.
Service has gone way downhill, items are often mispriced and then they argue with you, price checkers never work, self checkout process sucks, they cut their hours of operation, they put up gates and barriers like you're in a prison, lack of transparency for shrinkflation, etc. Not to mention the lack of competition in the grocery industry overall and things like restrictive covenants that benefit the big conglomerates, such as Loblaw's being the largest.
Buying groceries is no longer a pleasant experience and I'd rather explore other options for May as many other Canadians are choosing to do.

I bought these ones for my dad one day. He said don't buy that garbage again. But he absolutely loves the beef steakete.
What I do is I just cut around the brownie and just put the whole thing in the microwave no slit and cook it for like 6 minutes you don't even need to Stir It plus that brownies really good
It wasn't horrible.
Try it again the way I suggested it , no slits only cut a hole around the brownie and don't take the brownie out, if it's good try making a video about it, revisited

Try to find the beer battered chicken one I cooked the chicken in the oven and the rest of the microwave just the way I described it I actually never had this particular one before( Backyard BBQ) try that one( beer battered chicken) and then throw the rest of it in the microwave for like 9 minutes and let me know how it is, no extra slits, I cooked the brownie with it for 9 minutes and it actually was very good
