  • In this video I explore the Musio platform from Cinesamples and share why I think it might be one of the best platforms for Media Composers, regardless of experience.

    Thank you for the excellent review. I have been using Musio for about a month now and am so glad I decided to go with it. The "two week" free trial had me hooked in 2 days! The quality of the samples is excellent and the interface really easy to use. I just wish Musio had been available a year or so earlier when I started my composition journey and before I had spent a small fortune on other orchestral sample libraries and SSDs to store them.

      @StephenTallamyMusic  Před rokem +2

      I had the exact same thought. The variety and quality of sounds is fantastic and there’s less of the “if I want that library I’m going to also have to factor in a new SSD”

    I'm glad to see this video Stephen. I bought the Musio Lifetime License recently and enjoy it immensely. While I am confident it was the right choice to get it, I am a bit relieved to hear someone else point out the amazing benefits of this library and confirm what I thought as an amateur. Thanks again for the vid!

    This is a very good deal, the annual plan is very affordable. I've had it for ~8-9 months and I've already seen quite a few libraries added.
    If there are any upcoming composers with tight budget then this service is very convenient. Obviously, lifetime is preferable, but it's also quite a lot upfront for me atm.

    • @StephenTallamyMusic

      Agree, the price is very reasonable. Many other “starter” libraries cost around three to five times the cost of an annual subscription.

      With the 14 day trial you have nothing to lose. It’s great that the trial doesn’t require any payment details so it’s not one of those things you have to cancel to avoid slipping into paying.

    Great review. Pretty much spot on. I've been a Musio user for little over a year now or so. I'm not a huge fan of subscriptions either but I think this on is worth it. I'm less concerned about the possibility that some day Cinesamples may close it's doors. I don't think that will happen any time soon. And realistically, I've tossed away, so to speak so much software over the years because a company went away or they just stopped working on it anymore or it got buggy, etc, etc, etc.. To me it's just the cost of doing business. Hardware wears out too. How many audio interfaces have I purchased over the past almost 30 years of working with computer audio? I can't even begin to count. It's easier to count the exceptions for gear that lasts that long. Mostly good microphones, some cables, that's about it.
    Anway, I've been very happy with how Musio has worked over the past year. I think they were working out the bugs first, but the catalog development really kicked into high gear near the end of last year. It's ease of use and great sound has kind of made it my go to work horse, especially for orchestral and typical cinematic sounds.

      I certainly think their approach seems to be right here, get the foundations solid then expand out the features and sounds, all the time delivering something very usable.

    When I first saw the lifetime access I was skeptical. But then I thought , how are innovators going to be able to develop these platforms without capital? The real energy behind doing this for me is I not only support development here, but I have a lifetime benefit of access that development. More than fair exchange. I have been extremely pleased and impressed with sounds so far. I have suggested creating templates for different genre. I wonder if there are articulation sets available? All will come with time. And as a lifetime member I have a front row seat. I hope other platforms follow this model

    • @StephenTallamyMusic

      I had the same motivation, investing in this platform seems symbiotic. Musio seems to have a great team and I’m happy to back them as they build out what’s already a pretty amazing library of sounds.

    Too bad that light guide on the NI keyboard won't work since they've chosen to work outside of the NKS system. I'm afraid that's a showstopper for me.

    Interesting new product. I DO not like subscribtion at all (#NoSubscribtion) but as there is a possibility to buy that as a whole it's OK for me, you've the choice.
    But, one question, does it work when your computer is not connected to internet? (you can be out of the grid in some zones or when you travel in some remote locations). I suppose the app asks on line if you've paid for your licence before loading the instrument. But maybe I'm wrong.
    And, like you, my other problem is what will happen when the company will disapear (it will, sooner or later, that's life). Shall we still be able to use the products we've paid for?

    • @StephenTallamyMusic
      @StephenTallamyMusic  Před rokem +2

      Subscriptions work for some people but many want something paid up front. I think that’s what is great about the lifetime option. Yes you can work offline - the download option means you can work offline with anything you have downloaded. You need to go online once a month to keep your license active.

    • @StephenTallamyMusic
      @StephenTallamyMusic  Před rokem +3

      As for the longevity of any company, that’s always a concern regardless of subscription. The pace at which computing moves, any software you use could stop working due to compatibility with latest operating systems or chipsets. One advantage of subscriptions from a company perspective is that it can provide a reliable ongoing income source to pay employees without always having to rely on the latest sample library being a success. But I agree, it’s about putting your trust in a company and Cinesamples is well established in the industry and I like what they are doing here and so I’m happy to support it.

      @@StephenTallamyMusic "You need to go online once a month to keep your license active". OK.
      I understand. And it's definitely a problem for me. I'm online now but I want to keep what I've paid for with a "lifetime licence" when I would not not be "online" anymore, or when the company will not be online anymore.
      Lifetime licence = MY lifetime. If I buy a house or a car and the seller dies I'm still the owner of my house or my car. I don't care if the buyer dies, I'll never know.
      I'm sorry but I've a strong sens of ownership and the money I spend. Something from an other century, maybe and I realy don't like our disposable world full of e-wastes 😁
      And don't tell me "your computer will be obsolete and you'll have to download new softwares". I still have working computers with their working applications for 15 or 20 years, I've old working machines, even an Atari ST, they still do what I've paid for when I've bought them even if I use other machines now.
      So the final problem is: Do you trust the company to last at least your lifetime. Or not and you don't care because you've the money to spend now. 😊

    • @StephenTallamyMusic
      @StephenTallamyMusic  Před rokem +2

      @@FLH3official I’m not sure if the Lifetime subscription requires the online monthly activation or if that’s just for the monthly/annual plans. I’m sure you could ping their support to find out. And certainly agree that you can keep computers running a long time if you don’t upgrade them! But I’m with you - I do like to own things outright, especially if I want to depend on using them.

      Cinesamples has committed via post on VI-Control that they'll allow lifetime owners to download and continue to use the entire Musio library without monthly checks in the event that the company ceases to operate. That's good enough for me.

      So far it mostly works for me, though I do have a good download speed. I do sometimes just go pick a bunch of stuff ahead of time you download then use later. A bit like buying a whole library but only grabbing the bits you need first.
