- I visited McDiarmid Park in Perth to see St Johnstone v Rangers in the SPFL Premiership.
James Brown and Nicky Clark put St Johnstone two up before Rangers captain James Tavernier pulled one back. Giovanni van Bronckhorst is under some serious pressure at Ibrox now.

I'm an American fan who adopted Celtic as my club decades ago. People asked, "Why Celtic? Why don't you support a club from a bigger league?"
Honestly, it's just the polemicist in me. Yes, the Old Firm are huge clubs with parks which would rival any in the world. But there's something pure about the game in Scotland. It's more communal, less corporate.
Football fans have a choice. They can stand by the game's traditional values and sentiment - as we see with the birthday boy fan getting emotional over this win... or, we can turn clubs over to oil sheikhs, Russian oligarchs (fewer of them, these days), and American robber barons.
With the former, we keep what we have always loved, but will likely never reach the pinnacle of club success. With the latter, our favorite players will be on the covers of video game boxes and our clubs will play on the biggest stages, but they won't really be OURS any longer, will they?
To my mind, it's an easy choice. I'll keep supporting Celtic and all of Scottish football, as well as my tiny, hometown third division American side. I will never support a giant. Sport should be about community. I can't feel that in an Arsenal shirt (or Bayern, or PSG, or Man City, for that matter).

The American season is over, regrettably. We play from late February to November.
We had an interesting year. We finished mid table in the league, which isn't great. But, we were something of a national darling during the US Open Cup (equivalent to FA Cup - all divisions eligible). We made it to the quarter finals, beating 2 MLS sides away en route.
I went to the second MLS match. Glorious game and a fantastic night afterwards - if photographic evidence is to be believed. My actual memory is a bit hazy!

100% agree. Scotland punches well above its weight in terms of passion for a such a small nation. The reason? We’ve been playing the game longer than anyone else!

Look mate, I'm not a Gers fan, although their story and the way they went from 4th division back to the top of Scottish football, and they also reached the UEL final, and please remind me when was the last time Celtic won a knockout tie in Europe. I guess it was before I was born. And I'm not saying it to argue with you. The main point is that if UEFA and SPFL both say that this is Rangers, than it maybe really is, so you'll have to come to terms with it. You Celtic fans just don't want to understand that a new company is NOT equal to a new club. New company, but the same club. We had a similar issue here in Bulgaria with one of our two biggest teams, CSKA. They bancrupted back in 2016 and them they bought the license of a professional team and got back to the top tier directly from 3rd divisiod, so the team that is now known as CSKA - Sofia is practically renamed Litex Lovech, although UEFA sees them as a completely new 6 year - old club. But Rangers didn't buy someone else's license and climbed from 4th division to the top the honest way. So there's no reason for UEFA, SPFL and all neutral fans to see them as Rangers.

As a Celtic supporter I doubt that is true. St J fans love a win as much as any other club.
Saints have been my club for over 60 years, seen some great teams and gone through some dire times. Now watch from the English East Midlands. Hopefully this season will be better than last. But I'm pleased the management stuck with Davidson too many clubs sack managers within a year of appointing them, never seen the logic in that. Hopefully a top half finish.

I often wonder what people in Perth in Scotland think about the city of nearly 2 million people being named after them in Western Australia, but they probably never give it much thought. The city is bigger than Glasgow and is an all time favourite with British migrants.
