  • Let's take at Lance Stroll's racing journey so far. He jumped from Formula 3 to F1 and has never looked back since. Currently driving for Aston Martin, Lance is the driver to watch for in 2024 and I believe we are in for a surprise this season.

    Stroll's biggest issue imo has always been consistency; sometimes he shoows up to a race and puts on a stunner (his comeback at COTA comes to mind), and sometimes he shows up and it looks like he's just asleep at the wheel, prompting wonder at how invested he really is in F1 and racing in general. While he's certainly not beating Alonso, I think if he could just show up to 100% of races next season he could do quite well for himself, provided the car is figured out

      That means, that in good day he scores points, while in bad day he dosent even come close to scoring points. That is not that bad considering only top 10 positions get any points at all. Lance Stroll drivers ranking would propably a lot worse, if top 16 finishes for example scored points, because of Stroll lack of consistency.

    "In 2017 he made the leap from Formula 3 to Formula 1, in a similar fashion to Max Verstappen." That is just wrong. That is like saying Charles LaClerc and Nikita Mazepin made a similar jump from F2 to F1; same jump but very dissimilarly made.
    While they both Lance and Max made the same 'leap' they were in no other way similar. Red Bull signed Max because their bid for what everyone knew was a generational talent included an F1 seat that other teams couldn't or wouldn't make. Lance made the jump based on the opposite, his dad paying a huge sum to get Lance a seat. For Max it was about the highest bid for Lance about the most desperate cash starved taker. Basically Max was paid to make that jump, Lance paid to make that jump. Rather than similar they are opposite circumstances.

  • @frankbieser
    @frankbieser Před 6 měsíci +93

    I agree Lance is better than he is often given credit for. However, his jump from F3 to F1 was because his Dad threw a lot of money at a very cash strapped Williams buying Lance the seat. This was thoroughly discussed in the sports media at the time. Without that money he would have had to race F2 and hard to say if he would have made it past there or not. He is not the worse driver on the current grid, but there are other drivers who came up around him who have more talent and potential. So, I'm afraid Lance is always going to have that cloud over his head.

    • @Jout8-re1ij
      @Jout8-re1ij Před 3 měsíci

      Without his daddys money. I bet Lance Stroll would be driving for backmarker teams like Haas and not mid-field teams like Aston Martin. He would propably last in F1 seven years in some backmarker team and then be done. His not as terrible as somebody, like Mazepin who never deserved F1 seat in the first place. Im not sure how long Lawrence wants to keep Stroll around in Aston Martin with his lack of results, but I think in few season he would want to demote Stroll to Haas where Stroll propably drives only few seasons, unitil his done from F1 for all with no returns anymore, because his not that great driver to make return to F1.

    • @frankbieser
      @frankbieser Před 3 měsíci

      @@Jout8-re1ij I doubt it. Without his Dad's money, he would have never made it into F1. He did very well in Formula 4, but that was about it. His Dad's money kept him in seats. I agree he's better than Mazepin, but that's an awfully low bar for F1.

  • @MegaIronica
    @MegaIronica Před 6 měsíci +5

    Some drivers spend years chasing at least one podium position, and Stroll already has 3 of them and a pole position. This puts to rest the discussion about whether he should even have been in F1. However, there are also F2 drivers today who could surpass him easily. Just because he deserved to get in F1 doesn't mean he should keep his place while underperforming.

  • @furionese
    @furionese Před 4 měsíci +6

    He is arguably the most powerful driver on the grid where his seat is guaranteed regardless of results. Not even Verstappen can afford that that if he stops winning and starts to perform worse than his teammate he'll be sacked no doubt!
    All the negative comments made by plebs on social media he doesn't give a shit, he never reads them, he's too privileged to be affected by them. He doesn't have to put too much effort for PR activities, he can state few words on interview then bugger off and he doesn't have to kiss anyone's ass. Virtually untouchable, very enviable position indeed.
    Yet, the world is well aware of his great talent and potential, he himself knows that too. He scored his first podium on his rookie F1 year, he scored pole position some years ago. People dismiss that that he got lucky but everyone needs a luck to score a podium on debut year and he was there and took it.

    Stroll´s weakness is that he is living his fathers dream. And not his own. He is a decent driver but not a man that lives for F1 or should be in it. He´s also not new to F1 and i do not believe that he just needs more maturity. He had 7 seasons, he´s a veteran not a rookie and should be looked at as one. Alonso is the best driver he has faced and he´s been a complete bloodbath. And i see no changes going into 2024 unless Alonso drops off suddenly.

    stroll is not as bad as people think but I think contending for a championship is a step too far. Imo there's no drivers on the grid who have a realistic chance of being at a top team in the next few years who he would be able to beat over the course of season in a top car, so even if he gets dominant machinery I'd back his teammates over him.

    great video! i appreciate the level-headed nuance you bring to your analysis, which most of the commentary surrounding lance stroll lacks. intentionally or not, i find that most people's personal perception of lance dilutes an otherwise "objective" discussion, and you end up seeing a LOT of subjective theories on how people predict lance will perform or has performed.
    i also think lance is fighting in a losing game - regardless of his performance, i think it will be very hard for him to win over the hearts of f1 fans who will only ever see him as nothing more than a nepo baby. there's people in this comment section arguing over whether bianca needed to apologize, but think about how laissez-faire and normalized the public perception of lance has become that a development driver thought it would be remotely acceptable to like several tweets shitting on a formula one driver.

    More teams: YES! 10/20 is just not enough. Like you said, with 20 drivers and a whole world full of amazing open wheel drivers tons of people will never get a shot. In the USA they have Indy Car which has 27 drivers most times. They have some races with more depending on the race, like the Indy 500. They took a development path that didn't get them the results and performance gain they were hoping for. They admitted that perhaps it was the wrong approach. While the upgrades of Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren worked perfectly and gave them an edge over the Astons on most circuits in the second half of the season.

    • @AverageArtz
      @AverageArtz Před 6 měsíci +1

      Another reason is that Aston was in the process of finishing the construction of their new state of the art development factory during 2023, they simply couldn't do a lot of the upgrades that they wanted. That's partly why Alonso consistently said that this is a starting year for more competitive years to come.
      Overall, the AMR23 was a good car. It had great speed in medium and slow corners but suffered from drag in high speed. As well as higher than anticipated deg, specifically on the rear tyres. Which they wanted to fix by creating a less draggy diffuser and more downforce generated by a new floor design. Which they sadly failed with and couldn't fix due to struggles with production of better upgrades.

    You cannot tell daddy how he spends or loses his money...its his money and his team regardless how underperforming his son is.

    Yes F1 is a business but Lance is there because his father paid for him to be there. I'd his father didn't own the team he'd be long gone.

    You must’ve been paid to do this video. You’re obviously very knowledgeable about F1, but deliberately left out how he never used his mirrors for 5 years straight and except for Sergei he has always been defeated by his teammates. If you have been watching F1, you know it’s cut throat so no driver without daddy’s money would be allowed to continue with his record. 7 years in F1 and he still making bonehead mistakes like ramming into Ricciardo on a yellow flag! It would be more genuine if you admitted to being funded somehow….

    how can you still defend stroll in 2023? he is a terrible driver who does not deserve his seat in f1 and if it werent for his fathers money he wouldve lost his seat after two years in f1. yes he has a few good race performances. yes he had pole in turkey. but thats not an excuse as to why he should stay in f1. especially after 2023, when you compare alonsos 8 podiums to his 1 lucky 4th place finish. he is by far one of the worst f1 drivers in the last few years and saying that he might be competing for a world championship in the future is absolutely wild. any excuse of him still needing time to develop and improve is completely stupid. yes he is under a lot of pressure from the media which could understandably impact his performance. but other than that he really has no excuse to perform so badly, in a car that was at times the second fastest car on the grid. and did everyone suddenly forget his rude behaviour from qatar in 2023? i really dont understand where all these stoll sympathisers now come from

    Baby Stroller is only in F1 because daddy owns the team, he is hopeless and wouldnt be in F1 otherwise

      He's definitely a decent driver,
      On a good-day he definitely shines, such as the Mexican Grand-Prix - P11 to P6 is nothing to scoff at.
      Yet his more repetitive bad-days definitely plague his general black view. Not to mention that his temperament doesn't help his already quite strenuous position.
