      bryan ford your suppose to empty the tank of its fuel? On a website i read “after you add stabilizer to your tank, begin fogging”

    • @bryanford1139
      @bryanford1139 Před 5 lety

      @@alexanders1330 yes, plastic tank=empty it, carbs=drain 'em.... I've never had much faith in stabilizers(or any other fuel additives that come in a plastic container)...
      That said... steel tank=fill it(to prevent rust)...fuel injection(and I'm sure I'll get flak for this) = leave the fuel in it(oxygen can't get in the system, so that fuel will take a long time to foul)..again, to prevent rust... it'll be fine for an off-season. If you know that vehicle will be laid up more than a season, then you'll need to get a preservative oil in that system(like the military does when they "mothball" a vehicle)....super pain in the arse....
      Oh, and do NOT run it every once in a while! 5-10 mins is nowhere near enough time to burn off the moisture, you're just filling your engine with water and burning off your protective fogging layer. My 2cents

    iv had sleds now for over 30yrs , new ones too ,and all we ever done was use high test fuel with stabilizer ,keep a full tank and run it for 5-10 minutes a month ,or even every 2 month is lots.and we had zero problems in the fall ,and thats too many to say its just luck,

    Just a few pointers, I do not recommend oiling your clutches with anything other than some sort of dry lube. Also, never lubricate the clutch sheaves: the clutches rely on gripping the belt to work. If you lubricate them, there will be more slippage then if they were dry, increasing engagement rpm and lowering belt life and fuel economy. Also remember to grease the jack shaft and drive shaft bearings. lastly, there will always be some fuel in the carbs. I always stabilize my gas.

    Dryer sheets are awesome. I also use them on my Hayabusa while it's put away during the Winter.

    @jeremyodonnell5551 Před 7 lety +2

    I agree with almost everything with the exception of the wd40 on the clutches. the clutches are aluminum which is a very porous metal and the oil will penetrate into the clutch sheave surface and cause the belt to slip unless you wash the oil off with soap and water

    Some people do this as well - but having said this - I'd still put a fuel additive in as just starting the sled does not keep the fuel fresh.

    Well what I recommend is instead of draining the tank you can shut the gas off and run the carbs and lines out if file but still have gas in ur tank

    To get the Engine fogged with a lot of Oil. Just run Engine, warm it up . Than take a hook or coat hanger. With Engine Running, Pull up on the Oil Pump Lever, to full open . That will put a lot of Oil into the Engine. Ski Doo has that on their new Machines . A system that will use the Oil Pump to Fog the Engine for the Summer .

    no i know that the fuel isnt fresh but i dont have to coat my cylinder walls with something, this doesnt give ur enginge a longer lifetime. either way the gas wont get dirty after a summer.

    Would wd-40 work if it were to be sprayed into the spark plug holes?

    • @billyroesch8602
      @billyroesch8602 Před 3 měsíci

      Yes, It's better then nothing but it will eventually drain to the bottom of the engine, while fogging oil is much better at hanging on to the sides and not dripping and draining down as easily.

  • @Bigkidpowersports
    @Bigkidpowersports  Před 11 lety

    Its not a matter of 'dirty' fuel - but after a summer long I can almost promise you the Octane levels will have been dramatically deceased. These sleds like fresh fuel - with fuel that could be 6 months old I wouldn't personally run that through my sled. Fuel these days doesn't last like it used to.. and the plastic tank is not a good oxygen barrier so it does deteriorate faster. Just my 2 cents.

  • @trailblazers2001
    @trailblazers2001 Před 11 lety

    Wouldn't you want to put wd-40 on the open and can to keep it from rusting any more.

    I just park them inside raise the track and cover it. I leave a little gas in but I run non oxygenated premium so I don't have to worry about it turning to shit because there is no ethanol in it.

    • @joztunes69
      @joztunes69 Před 7 lety

      That and I add seafoam to it also, seafoam helps out a lot, keeps things smooth and moist and helps treat the gas if you have gas in your tank

  • @mrpolarisprox440
    @mrpolarisprox440 Před 11 lety

    All I've done with my sleds for 8 years is just park them on the trailer and put stabilizer in the tank that's all never hade a problem

      @shannon9487 Před 5 lety

      I take it you don't ride that much. I would never want to buy a used sled from you. Proper maintenance is essential to having a reliable machine, no matter what it is.

  • @beastest
    @beastest Před 9 lety

    I don't like the thought of having an empty tank, with the hot weather coming, allowing water in the tank isn't good. put in some stab let it run for 5 minutes, lift the rear end up. done

    • @Bigkidpowersports
      @Bigkidpowersports  Před 9 lety

      again to each their own. I do not see how an empty tank allows water into it? Also keep in mind the fuel these days is so bad for all the plastics in carbs and lines, as well as degrades very rapidly in a plastic tank. Much better bet to store it empty.

    • @beastest
      @beastest Před 9 lety

      I just meant Condensation. I also heard that leaving it dry can cause crank seals going bad etc. But hey. everyone has their own opinion non if right, non is wrong. good vid thou

      @Bigkidpowersports  Před 9 lety

      paulsnyder23
      You are correct - no right / wrong way. From what I do - Metal can = store full, plastic store empty. Regardless you are going to want to get that fuel out of your carbs - its going to dry up in the motor anyhow. The fogging oil will keep crank seals and motor coated with a nice layer of protecting oil. Again, like you said - lots of ways to skin a cat.

    • @MyTimmy75
      @MyTimmy75 Před 3 lety

      AS to reply along with BigKIdPowersports........... as for the worry of condensation, Whether inside or out, All you do after the tank is drained is not tighten your fuel cap, Thread it on. But very loosely. In doing that, Your tank can breath and will always stay bone dry, And whether you fogged it or not. Put oil in the cylinders, as well as everything else Big KId Powersports said. And I promise. That machine will fire right up come the fall :) And you will not have one ounce of moisture in that tank all summer long and come the fall :)

  • @tingsdal
    @tingsdal Před 11 lety

    i never do this but i start my sled avery 2 moths so i dont have to do this:)

  • @Bigkidpowersports
    @Bigkidpowersports  Před 11 lety +2

    Again, to each their own. But for the same reason you don't want fuel in your carbs all summer - you dont want it in your tank. Fuel now days does not hold up well over time and especially not in a plastic tank. The octane will degrade as well as start to varnish.

    • @stevenchamberlin9667

  • @Bigkidpowersports
