Scored a Sonar model for cheap (1984) that came with an aftermarket flash attachment and a pack of 2002 expired film. I put the film in the fridge and used the camera with new film. Works great. So, one day I decided to crack open the vintage bad boy and it was like strolling through Chernobyl when I opened the box, wow !!! Anyways, the battery was toast, the film pods were solid as a rock and the metal inside the frame pack was rusty. My conclusions ? Don’t buy expired film because you’ll pay one way or another. I can still smell it……
But I wish we could still get it like back in the day because it was almost a no brainer. Hope this helps some viewers to not waste their money on expired film that has long been through the combat of time.
    Awesome video as usual…..

Great video! Thanks for the shout out. Stranger Things film held out way better then I expected. When it comes to Spectra there’s No cam like ProCam.

I'm not a Stranger Things fan but I'm in love with the polaroids!! But buying limited edition film can be quite pricey tho. Amazing video and the results were amazing (mio aside)

I still have 4 packs of Spectra/Image (from the former Polaroid) film in the fridge. These were once purchased fresh with expiry date 06/2009. Used one pack at the end of last year. Battery still working but color off hue (little brownish). Stranger Things packs purchased from Polaroid fresh and used this year without any problems.

I'm really surprised that the battery still held up after all these years, that's incredible

@@JustAnotherChris Yeah, but you can hear that the ejection of the photo is slower.

I took one at a halloween party and some were just ink blots, but some turned out like double exposure and an actual clown showed up in front of the person i took photo of. Very cool. Sad about the ones that were just blobs though. It was the film I got from when I bought the camera thought so no wasted money in a sense

Hey Chris and everyone! Shooting this comment to you from Budapest, Hungary. I recently bought 2 packs of Stranger Things film, dated April 2019 and it has not been cold stored at all. It was just hanging on a store shelf in upright position for almost 3 years. Got a good deal on them.
These packs looks better than most Polaroid i-Type film packs I have encountered so far by the way, meaning, there is not a single scratch or wrinkle on them. Weird, right? My question is this. If I want to wait a month or two until using them, should I pop these in the fridge now, or that would be a completely un necessary thing to do after three years? I keep it now in room temperature.
Love your work by the way! Keep it up.

Stranger Things film is my favorite film ever!!! If you want to wait to use it definitely put it in the fridge. Otherwise just shoot it as soon as possible.

First of all, I love you already, one video in. Anyway, I bought some 600 film, the pictures were stuck together, brown and crusty around the white edges. Do you know what would cause this?

And the problem (haha) with Fuji is that it ages TOO well...I still have some ancient FP-100C that won't turn purple dang it!

I got out my mom's old Polaroid 600 camera and the film that expired in 2005, and I'm here to report that it didn't work at all. I couldn't even take a picture with it. The battery light turns green, and when I put in the new pack, it spit out the cardboard sheet (with contest info you could enter in their website!) and then did nothing after that. When I tried to take a picture, the battery light turns red and refuses to snap a photo.
I'm going to try to get new (unexpired) film and give it a shot, though. From what I can tell, the camera itself still works, it's just the film and battery that are too old.

This is so interesting!! especially because I have film in my fridge for a few months and I’m already paranoid i should use it or it will go bad or something but that’s literally because of the packs of film i had years ago, no where near being expired, all had bad scratches on them, developed black or just white or sooo grainy and faded:O and that was just after buying them 😂 Now ill be more chill buying film from polaroid website, cos i keep them in the fridge anyway so they should be grand😁😁 still not sure what happened with the 6 packs i had yrs ago but put me off polaroid completely because it was like throwing money in the bin ( got them from amazon, may be issue with how they were stored maybe?) like u said in the video xx
    love your intro btw🤪

The relaunch of polaroid back in 2016 had some rough formulas for its developer. They have massively improved since then.

I personally love shooting expired polaroid film and my dream is to buy a case of it, then cold store it and 6 months later pull a pack and do a test shoot, then at a year, etc...then I would know what kind of batch I have and at what age....my dream would be a website/company that does this and in larger quantities so we can get some amazingly procured expired results.
I kind of did this back in the day when my good friend Annie at Impossible sent me a whole case of expired Spectra, but back then nothing really did well past expiration date.

Thanks for this video… had just ordered film off eBay for the SX-70 that my husband just got me for Christmas…. It was 19.99 for a double pack of film that expired in………… 1996. After watching your video I went back and canceled the order, I’m currently waiting to see if the eBay seller accepts my request. I wasn’t even thinking about the battery being in the film pack🤦🏼‍♀️. Can you tell I’m new to instant photography?

    • @JustAnotherChris
      @JustAnotherChris  Před 2 lety +1

Ohhhhh yeahhhh 1996 it’s a pretty much guarantee The developer pods are dried up and the battery’s most likely dead. I have a video coming out maybe next month or so on film from 2008. Spoiler alert! it doesn’t work.
