  • Chicago resident, Eric, and his wife, Christine, share the experience of his stage 3 pancreatic cancer diagnosis and the actions taken to get a second opinion. Their research ultimately led him to the surgical oncology team at Johns Hopkins, where he underwent an aggressive treatment plan that included extensive chemotherapy and radiation therapy followed by a modified Appleby procedure, an operation designed to treat locally advanced pancreatic cancer.
Now five years after surgery, Eric reflects on his enhanced quality of life and the joys every moment spent with his family brings.

At age 70, I biked 20 miles one Saturday. Within a week, I turned yellow. I saw my primary care doctor on Thursday,. After failing a blood test at his office, I had endoscopic surgery on Friday, with the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer a week later. Testing continued. A month later I had whipple surgery. After 6 months of chemotherapy followed by liver damage for 5 months, I am now cancer free with a healed liver. Praise to God! All my treatment including surgery was within 40 miles of my home in West Virginia. This has all occurred since May 1, 2019. I lead a normal life except for neuropathy.

@Alejandro P the thing about pancratic cancer is that they don't show much symptoms and you can't screen them with cancer marker so you have to confirm with eus biopsy which is very invasive and whenthey show up to marker screening its to late until later stages they very hard to treat even in 1stage you only have a 37 percent survival rate after 5 years with resection operation even stage 0 has a 55percent 5 year survival which is abysmal it only takes on average about a year for stage 1 to develop in stage 4 unless your during your annual invasive screening caught it during its precancerous phase its very bad for you.

It was May 2016 when doctors told me I had months to live, but the worst thing was telling my children. My husband Dave and I decided to wait a month, until their exams were over, and when the day came, I was lying in bed. Matthew, who is now 18, started to cry, and Georgina, 20, said, ‘Mum, you can’t expect me to go to your funeral. Afterwards, I lay in the middle of them, holding their hands. I realised that I had so much to say to them but I didn’t do it immediately as we tried to keep family life normal probably a bit in denial. Then one day, just as I was arriving for an appointment at Princess Alice Hospice in Esher, Surrey, not far from our home, one of the nurses said, "Dr Harvey Herbal Herbs might do it."
"Do what?" I asked. She introduced me to Dr Harvey, I explained My Pancreatic life Story to him and I was told that I can be cured of this disease, Only God knew that I never believe because all my hope was lot at this point. But when Dr Harvey make me understand I pray about it that God should care me through his herbs because I have a lovely family and kids. Two months after taking the herbal herbs I go for a check up and there where no sign of Pancreatic cancer. Is It that I'm totally cure? I ask myself until the Dr Confirmed it that I was cured of Pancreatic Cancer.I also learned how much friends and family can be part of getting well. Our circle of friends and relatives was an incredible support. I want to anyone suffering from Cancer to contact Dr Harvey via (drharveyphytotherapy@yahoo.com), All thanks to him that I did't give up on life.

Doctor successfully removed everything and she is now recovering. When she got sick we had no idea about this illness, what are the statistics, can you even cure this and all those questions and that’s when I started searching on the internet. I noticed that people are very negative. I get that you are not in a good place or someone close to you may have died from this, but comments like PC is a death sentence is not going to help anyone. It’s irresponsible to write things like that. You are taking people’s hope and that’s all they’ve got. All I can say is that whatever the circumstances are, you must HOPE, because it’s the biggest power you can have. We are so much more than statistics.

My wife was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November of 2016. She had excellent treatment at UPMC in Pittsburgh. She did chemo and radiation but died from blood loss after the Whipple surgery on August 24th 2017. The chemo and radiation had damaged the veins too badly, and she essentialy bled to death. We had the joy of celebrating our 50th anniversary in April of 2017. Oddly, prior to her diagnosis, while she was hospitalized for pancreatitis, she showed no cancer markers at all. She told the docs that she knew she had cancer, but no one was believing her. Finally, they did a needle biopsy, and the nightmare began. I miss her every day. My youngest son is a palliative care doc, and he told me from the beginning that it would be fatal to his mom. Crazy how you could be working, grocery shopping, fueling up your car, and managing a backache and be dead 10 days later.

Try not to let it consume you. If you have something to take your mind off of it do so. Weather its work, music, Working out, talking to someone. Dont feel like your are being insensitive because you are not suffering in that moment. I found out today that my cousins husband has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Im sure she is having the same thoughts as you are. What dont kill us makes us stronger.

My uncle got diagnosed in November 2021. I haven't seen him in more than 2 years which makes me disappointed. Before I took him for granted, and now I wish I would have seen him more. It keeps getting worse too. He has a feeding tube down his throat now. 2 of my uncles had this type of cancer. 1 uncle was Bob,he died right before I was born and I was named after him,Bobbi. Now,12 years later,my other uncle,Norm, has the same cancer. Luckily he got diagnosed early and is getting treated. He's living with his gf rn,she used to be a nurse so I'm not that scared bc at least if something happens, she'll be there. If I had 3 wishes I would literally wish for:Everyone's pain/cancer/anxiety/depression/etc to go away. 2nd: For each part of covid to go away (covid 19,delta,omicron) 3rd: Everyone to have food and homes:) That's all I want. @@frdsg8350 I get so annoyed with the labelling on food, these manufacturers are crooks, they are constantly trying to deceive us and hide nasty chemicals by changing the formulas and the names of the toxins they put in their foods. I remember hearing about a crisps/chips manufacturer scanning peoples brains whilst they were eating the crisps so they could see how their concoction reacted with the serotonin pathway. Half the stuff in the supermarket is made in a lab rather than a kitchen, it’s no wonder we are all sick. I’ve noticed a huge increase in vegan foods lately which from the outside pose as healthy but are basically full of dangerous junk, it annoys the hell out of me it really does. These companies should be sued. I now only eat organic meat and most of my fruit and veg is organic too. I know they can still contain pesticides but I’m hoping less is more. If you had pancreatitis in the past as well as chronic pancreatitis you will eventually end up with a IPMN which will turn into cancer. It will feel like an ache on your left side mostly when you eat fatty meat or fatty foods.
If it is discovered in time you can get the whipple procedure but depending how much of a IPMN you have determines how much of your pancreas you will be left with. The Whipple procedure recovery is brutal AF and you will be in pain for months afterwards, you will be taking antacids like candy and protonix. You'll only be able to eat food out of a 9oz ramekin twice a day. You will have muscle degeneration and have trouble walking without a cane or walker.
You will have to take stool softeners and maylox or you will
have constipation from hell, if you dont get your bowls moving you will have bile build up and will be vomiting like crazy and end up in the hospital. You will have to get endoscopy done every 6 months to check whats left of your pancreas, you could very well end up a diabetic after the whipple procedure. If you pass on the whipple procedure your alternative is death.
6 months after the whipple you will have chronic fatigue, problems with digestion unless you keep up with the stool softener. You will be noticeably weaker, less muscle mass. If you eat too much of a fatty food you will easily get pains like pancreatitis in whats left of your pancreas.
If you had chronic pancreatitis or pancreatitis in the past if i were you I'd lie to your doctor and tell him/her you have a pain in your left side and had pancreatitis before and what a CT scan or better an endoscopy. People die from pancreatic cancer a month or more or less after being diagnosed is because this thing is growing inside of you and you cant tell until its at then last stage where it gives you great pain all the sudden.

My husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. That wasn't actually there...
He went in for an endoscopic ultrasound. (Alone, at the begining of the pandemic.) Woke him up and told him he had cancer. (Alone.) Then we were put into overdrive. Doctor appointment after doctor appointment. CT scans and blood tests. They decided on chemo for 6 months, surgery and then another round of chemo. They called it the most aggressive regimen. A few months into chemo his pain was excruciating. Another CT scan and they said the tumor was growing. So we pushed up surgery. We had the surgery at Loyola in Chicago. They removed 2/3rds of his pancreas and his spleen. We waited weeks for a pathology report. Eventually getting a call from the surgical oncologist to tell us that there was no evidence of cancer. NO CANCER. No evidence of dead cells killed by chemo. Nothing. Got his port removed and sent us on our way.
    We haven't recovered.
Edit: the *cancerous tumor* was actually a pseudocyst. Pancreatitis A typical cells.

I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just over a year ago. It was stage 2B and the lesion was on the tail. I finished chemo in October and there was NO cancer. I just had my CA19-9 checked and it was 100. The last time i had it checked in November it was 24. I am having it repeated. I am extremely nervous about it. Yes I know that alone doesn't mean anything. My oncologist said it could be from inflammation. I'm staying positive until I find out

I'm 15 and I have been recently feeling a little pain in my upper right back. I also have a little pain in my stomach and both of these occur from time to time, I need to know if I have cancer. I'm scared for my life and I don't want to die.

Honestly I’m a extremely worried too because I have been having diarrhea and a sore throat for 6 weeks now and my symptoms have been getting worse, I feel stomach pain that can last all day and then goes away for a day or two and comes back. My stool is pale and I found my Virchow’s lymph nodes swollen. What should I do?
