At 2:10 and 4:10, he puts his granite diaphram to work and wow, what a voice! An amazing artist. I'm so happy he's still performing. People who keep whining about the Great Domingo "sullying" his legacy by continuing to perform, interpreting baritone roles, are failing to be the tolerant and mature humans I'm sure they consider themselves. No, if you can't maintain respect and love for this total artist, a living legend who merits consideration, because he doesn't look and sound like he used to, then the one who needs a gut check is you. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you claim to have been a fan for X amount of time, then be a fan, behold his beauty. That's on you. He's doing his job, now do yours. If you can't, stand in a different ticket line, click different videos. He isn't forcing himself on anyone, because, clearly, he is still selling tickets. The Met isn't a charity. We the Public are going to leave it to God to say Otello fu.

I really don't understand the backlash Mr. Domingo has been receiving in this comment section. He may have been one of the greatest tenors of the 20th century, and yes, his timbre is not quite what one would expect from a baritone. But, please realize the tremendous artistry this man exhibits in everything he does! He is an impeccable musician who sang this role with exquisite beauty and control. I commend Mr. Domingo for continuously bringing us exceptional music and being a role model for aspiring singers.

The bottom of the range is weak and gravelly. The top (which would have been his middle register by rights) is wobbly and unfocused. They had a proper baritone singing this role in other performances, available to offer as Live in HD, and they chose not to do so. Incomprehensible.

A me Domingo da giovane, come tenore, piace molto. Qui sfiora il ridicolo, però! Voce bruttissima!!!!!!!!!!

    • @bodiloto
      @bodiloto Před 7 lety +1

      la Gruberova interpretazione anno 2016...
      ahahahahahahahahahahah !
      nessun confronto possibile,vince Edda Moser.
      ciao

A tenor dropping down cannot be appropriate for Simone. We cannot expect this opera to be cast in the strength it enjoyed some 85 years ago, when the Met had Rethberg, Martinelli, Tibbett, and Pinza in the four leading roles. But surely the Met could have had a mediocre baritone in the title role instead of a frightfully miscast tenor. (Simone has also been gruesomely miscast with Simon Estes, too deep a voice for the part, and Thomas Hampson, a baritone much too light of voice for the role.)

Funny there's no cast named here except a washed out tenor..

@Jerry, I'm so happy you exposed yourself with this comment. Cruelty is your favorite condiment, clearly.
