By most British (and presumably Irish) people's standards, I came very late to Vic & Bob in general and Shooting Stars in particular. About 15 years late. After my first proper binge on Shooting Stars, I do remember thinking that it was unlike panel shows in that it didn't serve as a showcase for stand-ups, as many panel shows do. Once I'd hooked into what V&B were doing, I'd feel irritated by guests who thought they were above it, refused to enter the spirit of it or, worst of all, thought they could match it with the show's hosts. The only stand-up I can think of who was able to be himself comedically without pulling focus or trying to one-up was Eddie Izzard.

I remember watching It's Ulrika. There were a few funny moments but although it can be said that Ulrika is game for anything (just ask 90's footballers) I don't think she could have carried that show as she wasn't a comedian and they were trying to cash in on her sex appeal
David Walliams in his book said that if they had gone to a full series he and Matt Lucas would be supporting her [like the Band to Ulrika's lead singer as it were] which might have been Little Britain a few years early. I didn't think it was too bad to be honest [Vic and Bob's writing usually gets a laugh out of me for the weirdness factor alone]!
