The thing that makes Vic & Bob so special is the joyous nature of their comedy. People say 'surreal' and 'silly' and there's no denying either of those. But at the core is joy, really.
Well there can be a lot of joy when you do what you like, however beyond sense, and get paid a large amount for it... Really you just ride it for as long as the bubble doesn't burst. And they did.
Bob always says they do what makes them laugh, so they enjoy doing it. Thats all. If other people like it, that's a bonus. More modern comics could learn from that.
They've always struck me as that rare thing in comedy, colleagues who are funny in everyday life as well as at work. They would make a laugh out of accompanying you to the shops for beans.
I know it's cliche to say this, but I truly think these two would fail to make as big of a name for themselves in today's climate. Absolutely nothing harmful or racist about them, but can you imagine Vic as Barry White on TV today??
Wonder why this series always made sure to avoid covering the Benny Hill Show, did the circumstances surrounding his sacking just make too many leftist comedians bitching about him then look really bad now so they had to bin it?
I used to love this show. It was one of the few comedy series that could actually make me cry with laughter.

It's on 4OD, and it's still as a amazing and ridiculous as when I saw it the first time round

Saw them at Preston Poly in 1990, have never laughed so much, was aching for days after.
reeves and mortimer are absoulte stars- so silly, weird and damned hilarious!
It's not just their brilliance; it was also harmless and "non offensive". No victims, no hate, just two friends having a laugh
Thank God for the Internet, let alone CZcams, for helping me cope with the loss of Shooting Stars.
Thank you, Mr. Semprini.
Would like to see the Drop The Dead Donkey Comedy Connections if you (or anyone) has them
